In this study, a low-velocity impact test was performed to obtain the dynamic properties of solid propellants. The dynamic behavior of the solid propellant was examined by measuring the force and displacement of the impactor during the low-velocity impact test. The bending displacement was calculated by compensating for the local displacement caused by the low-velocity impact test in the form of three point bending and the shear displacement caused by using a short and thick solid propellant specimen. Stress and strain were calculated using compensated displacements and measured force, and dynamic properties of solid propellants were obtained from the stress-strain curve and compared with static bending test. The dynamic properties of solid propellant under the low-velocity impact loading at various operating temperature conditions such as room temperature(20 ℃), high temperature(63 ℃), and low temperature(-32 ℃) were compared and investigated.
In many countries, there are needs of new transportations to replace ground congestions due to growing number of cars. In addition, the increase in the number of cars held by economic growth will further increase traffic congestion in the future. To overcome this problem, many researches have been performed for personal air vehicle (PAV). In this study, the wing loading and the power-to-weight ratio that are major design parameters for the sizing of roadable PAVs were calculated for different kinds of airfoil and engine types. I.e., in the sizing process, the study was conducted to determine the design point using the graphs of wing loading, power-to-weight ratio, brake horse power, and fuel efficiency for the given mission profiles considering domestic environments and the FAR PART 23 which is the GA class aircraft certification standard. As a result of sizing, using diesel engine require high maximum take-off weight, wing area, and power compared to gasoline engine due to more engine weight.
The rock anchorage of a suspension bridge is an outstanding anchorage type from environmental and economical perspective, although it should be applied when the bearing foundation is fresh enough to resist large cable loads. In practice, geotechnical engineers have encountered difficulties in designing the anchorage structure due to the fact that the physical behaviors of rocks against cable loads have not yet been fully proved and its design method was not established yet. In this study, model tests and numerical studies were performed to evaluate the behavior of the rock anchorage system planned under hard rock layers in domestic islands, and results suggest that the shape of asymmetric rock wedges can resist the tension loads with self weight and shear resistance. Additionally, real scale trial tests were carried out to verify the accuracy of an inclined drilling penetrating hard rock layers to install tendon to the bearing plate.
Underground environmental infrastructure and energy production facilities, which are recognized as avoidable facilities such as landfills, are emerging as an important social issue due to urbanization and economic growth. It is necessary to analyze the stability according to various ground conditions and load conditions for the construction of large-scale underground complex plants. In this paper, horizontal/vertical displacement and stress distribution according to the load condition and construction process were analyzed using finite element analysis (FEM), Based on the analysis results of various conditions, factors to be considered in the detailed design and construction of the underground complex plant were reviewed and the implications on design factors (Intermediate wall installation status, Pre-reinforcing area, etc.) for underground large space construction were derived.
In this study, inverse analysis was performed on the bi-directional axial compressive load test conducted on drilled shafts. And the bearing capacities were analyzed by numerical analysis of various pile tip ground conditions of silt clay, silt sand, sand silt, sand gravel, weathered rock, and soft rock. The bearing capacities were analyzed using the P-S method, the Davisson method, and the allowable sttlement of 25.4 mm. The minimum allowable bearing capacities analyzed by three methods were found to be 19.64 MN ~ 24.96 MN. At this time, the base resistances were sharing a 2% ~ 12% of a head load, shaft resistance were shared 88% ~ 98% of the head load. The greater the strength of pile tip was found to increase the allowable bearing capacity. However, the difference between the maximum allowable bearing capacity and the minimum allowable bearing capacity was 5.32 MN, and the increase in the allowable bearing capacity was only 27% depending on the pile tip.
This paper presents the results of a three-dimensional finite element analysis on a geosynthetic-reinforced bridge abutment. Examples on the use of mechanically stabilized earth bridge abutment in north America are first presented. A three-dimensional finite element analysis on a 4.8 m high, 14 m wide geosynthetic-reinforced bridge abutment was performed to investigate the 3D behavior of the geosynthetic-reinforced bridge abutment and the load carrying capacity of the bridge abutment in the three-dimensional space. The results are then presented in a way that the three-dimensional behavior of the abutment can be identified in terms of wall displacements and reinforcement forces. It is shown that the wall facing displacements as well as the reinforcement forces in the abutment are smaller than those computed based on a plane strain approximation.
The microcomputer program PileNSF (Pile Negative Skin Friction) is developed by the authors in a graphical user interface (GUI) environment using $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for predicting the bearing capacity of a pile embedded in a consolidating ground by surcharge loading. The proposed method extends the one-dimensional soil-pile model based on the nonlinear load transfer method in OpenSees to perform an advanced one-dimensional consolidation settlement analysis based on finite strain. The developed program has significant features of incorporating Mikasa's finite strain consolidation theory that accounts for reduction in the thickness of the clay layer as well as the change of the soil-pile interface length during the progress of consolidation. In addition, the consolidating situation of the ground by surcharge filling after the time of pile installation can also be considered in the analysis. The program analysis by the presented method has been verified and validated with several case studies of long-term test on single piles subjected to negative skin friction. Predicted results of negative skin friction (downdrag and dragload) as a result of long from consolidation settlement are shown to be in good agreement with measured and observed case data.
Shear tests were carried out on interface between two concrete eco-blocks which comprise segmental retaining wall. Three interface conditions were considered : 1) direct contact of two blocks, 2) placing rubber pad between two blocks, 3) placing rubber pad and shear key between two blocks. According to shear tests, shear load-shear displacement relationship which was obtained from direct contact of two blocks was similar to elastic-perfectly plastic behavior. Ductile behavior of shear load-shear displacement relationship was observed for the interface condition of placing rubber pad. Apparent minimum shear capacities and apparent friction angles for the interface conditions of direct contact of two blocks, placing rubber pad between two blocks, placing rubber pad and shear key were 1.7 kN/m, $27.6^{\circ}$ and 4.2 kN/m, $26.2^{\circ}$ and 20.9 kN/m, $26.0^{\circ}$ respectively.

Displacement of structures is the most important parameter for safety and performance assessment and is measured to use for diagnosis and maintenance of bridges. Usually LVDT, Laser and GNSS are used for displacement measurement but these measurement instruments have problems in terms of field condition and cost. Therefore, in this study, displacements were evaluated using rotational angle measured by inclinometers and the proposed algorithm was experimentally verified. As the result, vertical displacements of cable supported bridges with traffic and temperature load were properly evaluated through the proposed algorithm. Therefore it is considered that the proposed algorithm can be used for displacement measurement by vehicle load test and long term displacement monitoring.

Instrumented steel sheet piles being driven by vibratory pile driver were installed in granular soil deposit and behaviors of the sheet piles were investigated. One of the instrumented steel sheet pile was installed without clutch and the other was installed with clutch. Sheet pile with clutch means that of installed in connection with pre-installed sheet pile. Penetration rates of sheet piles measured from depth measuring drum has shown that interlock friction had great effect on penetration speed of sheet pile. Clutch friction shows irregular distribution along the depths of penetration and its magnitude was estimated as 19.1kN/m. According to the accelerations obtained from accelerometer, it was seen that steel sheet pile behaviored nearly as a rigid body. Efficiency factor of an isolated sheet pile was 0.42 and that of the connected sheet pile was 0.71. Shapes of dynamic load transfer curves obtained from analysis of measuring devices was similar to those suggested by Dierssen.
