China's Post '80s and '90s Generation and Selective Reception of Foreign Popular Culture: The Case of Beijing (중국 80-90후(后)와 외국 대중문화의 선택적 수용: 베이징 사례)

  • Young Chinese audience can select and watch TV dramas, movies and entertainment programs from many different nations, such as Korea, America, Japan, England, Thailand, India, and so on, through multiple channels, such as online video sites - iQiyi, Youku, LeTV, PPTV, and many others - which were induced by changes in media environment. Various genres of Korean popular culture have recently become popular in China, but this phenomenon differs from the early Korean Wave. During the earlier period (from 1997 to the early 2000s) of the Korean Wave, soap operas were popular among middle-aged women, but now various other genres, such as K-pop, entertainment programs, etc., are also popular in China. The purpose of this study is to explore how young Chinese audiences use foreign pop culture, including their preferred genres, reasons for preferring these genres, and the relationship between the preferred pop culture and national image in Korean, American, and Japanese pop culture were analyzed. According to the study results, similarities and differences between preferred genres and the reasons for preferring these genres, and also a close correlation between preferred pop culture and national image were found. These findings will be fundamental for supporting the continual development of the Korean Wave in China.

Trends and Socio-Economic Factors Impacting on Married Couples' Childlessness Among Korean Provinces : 1990~2010 (무자녀율 변화 추세 및 변화에 영향을 미치는 사회·경제적 요인에 관한 연구: 1990~2010)

  • This study aims to describe childlessness trends and examine the factors impacting on the childlessness of married couples among Korean provinces between 1990 and 2010. The results are as follows: There have been differences in childlessness rates among provinces and over time as well. Furthermore, social development, transportation, women's status, and economic development have statistically significant positive impacts on ASMCR. It turns out that age-specific marital childlessness rate is rather accurate measurement than general marital childlessness rate in terms of exploring the factors influencing on the childlessness among Korean provinces. Korea's government policy to aid the married couples who are suffering from in-fecundity is strongly recommended to maintain its policy and extend its subjects in order to increase married couples' fertility rate. Furthermore, campaigns to change married couples' recognition and attitudes from unfavorable against childbearing to favorable toward childbearing so that the married couples would be willing to have childbearing in terms of fertility rate increase.

An Analysis of the Relationship Between Quality of Service and the Audience Attitude Variables of the Korean traditional opera Performance (창극공연의 서비스품질과 관객태도 변인 간의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the quality of performance on audience satisfaction, and to verify the mediating effect of service value and traditional image in this process. The subjects of this study included 211 male and female adults who experienced the Korean opera performance in Seoul, Korea in October. Collected data was used as a model of path coefficients obtained through analysis of covariance structure and hypothesis test. As a result of verification, program quality, physical environment quality, and quality of the stage performance perceived by the audience showed a statistically significant positive correlation with performance experience attributes. The path coefficient between performance attribute and service value, performance experience attribute and traditional image were also positively and statistically significant. Further, the path coefficient between performance experience and audience satisfaction showed a positive relationship. The service value and traditional image, service value and audience satisfaction, and the path coefficient between traditional image and audience satisfaction were statistically and positively significant. Finally, all hypotheses were adopted and study results confirmed the effect of service quality and experience attributes on audience satisfaction for the popularization, modernization and marketing strategy of the Korean opera. In this process, it is meaningful to verify the role and function of service value and traditional image.

  • The common concerns of leadership approaches were focused on finding leadership factors or necessity of leadership change to proper leadership styles adapt to contingent change through observing various leaders' behaviors for improving organizational effectiveness. Basically, they assumed that the human could be adapt to any conditions regardless of his inherent characters though it is perceived generally that human beings have different attitudes and behaviors toward the same fact, condition, situation, etc. In other words, inherent factors that cause individual differences have been neglected but concerned only about postnatal environments which influence human characters in previous leadership studies. A number of studies concerning inherent human characters have been worked in Asia for the past thousands years, which enable answering to the questions; why the human beings have different characters and personalities, and how to manage them in the given life conditions. In this research, four type human theory(called Sasang Theory) which has already been widely used in medical field in Korea will be introduced and applied to leadership theory to indicate inherent causal factors of the human character that are expected to influence leadership styles. In process, two different methods, one is for leadership theory and the other is for Sasang theory, have to be considered to match the different ideas. The theory is so predictable that the result implies possibilities of further future researches in the organizational fields by presupposing human behavior.

The Impact of Perceived Security Control on the Acceptance of Internet Banking (인지된 보안통제가 고객의 인터넷 뱅킹 수용에 미치는 영향)

  • This study focuses on customer perception of security control under Internet banking environment Internet banking customers' understanding of security control is insufficient. They are not fully aware of security technologies for Internet banking. Moreover, they cannot know which control is implemented and maintained on an Internet banking site when visiting the site. This study, therefore, attempts to find the impact of customer perception of security control on Internet banking acceptance. The research model is based on the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model), and introduces trust as an additional belief. Trust has been investigated in the marketing area, and begins to be focused in e-business area. A Web survey of Internet banking users collected 845 cases. Statistical analyses, using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling), partially supported the hypotheses that perceived strength of security control has an impact on three beliefs: trust, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use. We also verified the impact of these beliefs on attitude toward using, on behavioral intention to use, and on actual use. It is, therefore, verified that perceived strength of security control is a determinant of Internet banking acceptance.

The Effects of City's Search Keyword Type on Facebook Page Fans and Inbound Tourists : Focusing on Seoul City (도시의 검색키워드 유형이 페이스북 페이지 팬 수 및 관광객 수에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 서울시를 중심으로)

  • This study investigate the effect of each type of search volume on the number of Facebook fans and the number of tourists. According to the hierarchy effect model, the effect of communication appears to be the sequentiality of cognition-attitude-behavior. Applying this theory, this study predicted that when consumers who have higher involvement and knowledge on specific cities through search behavior, they will be more active in information search through Facebook fan page subscription and will lead to direct tourism behavior. To verify the prediction, we examined the influences among search volume of Seoul shown in Google Trend, the number of fans of official facebook page named 'Seoul Korea', and the number of foreign tourists. As a result, the type of search keyword was divided into four categories: tourism attraction keyword, natural environment keyword, symbolic keyword, and accessibility keyword. The regression analysis showed that tourism attraction keyword and symbolic keyword have influence on Facebook fanpage 'Like'. In addition, facebook fanpage fan size have mediation effect between search volume and number of tourists. All in all, it would be useful to appeal to foreign tourists with a message that emphasizes tourism attraction and Korea-related contents.

A Study on Technology Transfer in IT Industry (IT 산업계의 기술이전에 관한 연구)

  • The Korean government is actively pursuing an ambitious IT strategy to establish Korea as one of the leaders in the world IT market. To implement the strategy, successful technology transfer from research institutions to market should be achieved. Comprehensive literature identifies sixteen variables affecting the process and results of technology transfer. The research results in four key factors in technology transfer: Communication, Distance, Equivocality, and Motivation. Communication refers to the degree to which a medium is able to efficiently and accurately conveys task-relevant information and media while distance involves both physical and cultural proximity. Equivocality refers to the degree of concreteness of technology to be transferred while motivation involves incentives for and the recognition of the importance of technology transfer activities. Further analysis shows that there are four distinctive clusters and they show very contrasting characteristics in terms of four key factors. The careful mapping of the four clusters on the four key factors show very informative technology transfer patterns, the Technology Transfer Grid.

Clinical Efficacy of Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Patients with Primary or Secondary Insomnia (일차성 및 이차성 불면증 환자에서의 개별 인지행동치료의 임상적 효능)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for Patients with Primary or Secondary Insomnia. Methods: Participants were recruited from a primary care sleep clinic from January 2008 to June 2009. The study sample included 64 outpatients with primary insomnia (n=30) and secondary insomnia (n=34) according to the criteria of DSM-IV. Participants completed sleep diaries, Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep Scale-16 (DBAS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) before CBT and shortly after completion of CBT. CBT was provided in 7 weekly, 40-50-minute individual therapy sessions. Results: Both groups of patients with primary and secondary insomnia showed significant improvement in the DBAS and sleep parameters including sleep onset latency, total sleep time, and sleep efficiency. Repeated-measures ANOVA of the DBAS and sleep parameters showed no significant group-by-time interactions between patients with primary and secondary insomnia, suggesting the efficacy of CBT for patients with secondary insomnia was equivalent to that of CBT for patients with primary insomnia. Conclusion: This study suggests that CBT is effective for the management of primary and secondary insomnia in a primary care setting.

A Study on Work Stress, Satisfaction, and Dementia Attitudes of Social Care Work Force of Dependent Elders (노인시설 종사자의 업무스트레스, 업무만족, 치매 및 인간중심보호 인식 연구: 사회복지사, 간호사, 생활지도원의 비교)

  • The study analyzes the characteristics, work stress, satisfaction and attitudes toward dementia of social care work force for dependent elders in Korea. Data were from 502 staffs including social workers, nurses, and direct care workers from 45 diverse type of nursing facilities in Busan and Daegu area. The results of the analysis indicate that they are low paid and overloaded in general. The respondents espoused highly hopeful and person-centered attitudes toward dementia and the elderly, while they showed low level of satisfaction related to work. The stress levels were higher in sub scales concerning care tasks and physical environments in work places. In addition, the results of multiple regression denote that those have higher level of satisfaction who are nurses, have no intension to quit, have more experiences of work education, and working in facilities with more frail elders. Stresses were closely related to higher level of education and the intension to quit. Person centered attitude was more often reported by those who have more elderly clients to take care of and are working in facilities with more elders who are demented and over 80. In particular, the association was consistent between higher level of job satisfaction and the person centered attitude. Several practical suggestions linked to the analysis were made including improving the welfare for staffs working in nursing facilities and providing continuous professional training and education for them particularly on person-centered care. In addition, it was emphasized to raise the morale of social care work force considering the rapidly increasing need of long term care and the important influence that care work force has on older persons' quality of life from now on.

How Do the Journalists Perceive the Civic Journalism? (시민저널리즘에 대한 언론인 인식유형 연구)

  • Nowadays, newspaper industry faces a crisis in terms of two aspects: First, in this multi-channel era, it has competed with the online journalism appearing in many digital media. Second, with the decrease of numbers of readers and political participation, the roles of newspaper has to be changed accordingly. The concept of civic journalism emerged as a solution in this context. The purpose of the study is to explore the factors in how journalists perceive the civic journalism. The Q-methodology was adapted to identify the factors composing of the belief, values, attitudes, ideas, and opinions toward the civic journalism. Total of 24 Q-sample (statements) were sorted by 27 P-sample (journalists) who were selected by their gender, years of service, and the like. The Quanl program finally produced 3 factors that were interpreted and named as follows: Factor I, the Complimentary Journalism, the civic journalism would fulfill the functions that traditional journalism has neglected. Factor II, the Alternative Journalism inducing the citizen's participation in the public areas. Factor III, the Functional Journalism, emphasizing dysfunction of the civic journalism.
