Experimental study of extinguishment of the pure diffusion flame using water spray (수분무를 이용한 순수확산화염의 소화에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study describes extinguishment mechanism of the purely buoyant diffusion flame using the water spray. Experiments are systematically carried out for the oul pool fire with the six different atomizing nozzles. From the measurement of burning rate which represents the combustion intensity of fire, it is observed that the water spray is able to act to enhance fire rather than to extinguish fire. The air entertainment due to the water spray is visualized to understand this phenomenon, acting to enhance fire. In order to observe effects of droplet size on fire extinguishment, and amount of water which reaches the flame base, fuel surface, and mean diameter of droplets are measured. When water droplets are too small, they do not reach the flame base because they can the water spray having too small doplets is ineffective for extinguishment of the oil fire.

  • Smoke is emitted in diesel engines because fuel injected into the high-temperatured and high-pressured combustion chamber burns with its mixture with insufficient oxygeny. In consideration of air pollution, above all, it is necessary to illuminate the cause of smoke emission in diesel engines. The smoke emission, which is characteristic of diffusion combustion in diesel engines, results from pyrolysis of fuel not mixed with air. Therefore the smoke emission is dependent on diffusion combustion quantity, which is in turn controlled by engine parameter. The study aims at making clear and interpreting the interdependence of smoke emission in diesel engines with heat released within combustion chamber, camparing diffusion combustion quantity according to each engine parameter (air fuel ratio, injection timing, and engine speed), and showing the relation between smoke emission and fraction of diffusion combustion through experiment.

  • This paper dealt itself with the relation of the heat release rate with crank angle in combustion process by adjusting the injection time, injection amount and engine speed of diesel engine. The result of test were obtained by analyzing indicator diagram of KUBOTA 2LKE diesel engine, where the indicator was used Tertronix oscilloscope. The combustion period of diesel engine is composed of premixed burning time and combustion controlled time. The larger the premixed burning region, the higher efficiency was obtained with the higher maximum pressure than at the time of the normal smooth operation. The longer the combustion controlled time, the lower the maximum pressure than the period of the normal operation, but the efficiency was decreased. The region of premixed burning was principally controlled by injection delay, but combustion controlled time was affected when oxygen and fuel were mixed. Efficiency of engine was increased at the time of earlier injection time under the constant injection amount, and engine speed, but the pressure increasing was observed higher than the efficiency increasing.

Combustion Characteristics of Hybrid Rocket Fuel with Tapered Grain Port Shape (경사진 포트 형상을 가진 하이브리드 로켓 연료의 연소 특성)

  • In this study, the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket fuel with tapered grain port were studied. The regression rate was increased about 17.5% by using the convergence port shape fuel. On the other hand, in case of divergence port shape fuel, any notable difference of regression rate was not observed when compared with regression rate of the cylindrical port shape fuel. Also, in case of convergence port shape fuel, characteristic velocity efficiency was increased. From these results, one can notice that convergence port shape of hybrid rocket fuel can be effective configuration in terms of improvement of combustion efficiency and performance.

고온 고속 노즐부위에서의 열전달

  • 본 고에서는 일반적으로 노즐 부위 열해석에서 무시되는 복사열전달율과 점성소산효과를 수치적 모델을 통하여 그 필요성 여부를 조사한 것이며 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. (1)연소실 및 수 렴부위에서는 복사열전달율이 대류열전달율과 같은 차수의 크기로 나타나고 있어서 고 복사율을 갖는 연소가스에서는 특히 중요하다. 특히 최근에 많이 사용되는 연료에는 연소가스에 산화알 루미늄 성분이 증가하는 추세이므로 노즐부위 열해석에는 복사열전달이 차지하는 비중이 커질 것이다. (2)노즐의 확산부위에서는 고속으로 인하여 가스자체의 점성소산이 일어나 특성치 보 정계수 값이 감소한다. 따라서 Bartz의 예측치 보다는 열전달계수의 값이 적어지고 있다. (3) 따라서 노즐수렴부위에서는 일반적으로 Bartz의 예상치보다 높고 확산부에서는 낮은 결과를 얻 었던 실험결과와를 비교할 때 고온고속 노즐에서의 열전달해석은 복사 열전달과 점성열 소산을 고려함으로써 정확하게 될 수 있다. (4)이상 고려된 실험 데이터와 수치모델의 고찰은 노즐내의 침식이 없는 경우이나 실제의 경우 노즐벽 표면에서 화학적 반응이 일어난다. 그러나 이때 발 생될 수 있는 순수한 발한효과는 미미하며 단지 전체적인 단면의 열 해석시 상기에서 예측된 열전달율을 근간으로 화학반응열 및 온도분포를 계산하여야 할 것이다.

  • In this paper, the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket fuel with tapered grain port were investigated experimentally. The charging efficiency of convergent and divergent port shape fuel with $1^{\circ}$ taper angle was 6.8% higher than that of cylindrical port shape fuel. The regression rate was increased about 17.5% by using the convergent port shape fuel. On the other hand, in case of divergent port shape fuel, no notable difference of regression rate was observed when compared to that of the cylindrical port shape fuel. In the case of convergent port shape fuel, characteristic velocity and its efficiency were notably increased with respect to cylindrical port fuel. It was found that convergent port shape of hybrid rocket fuel can lead to a better option compared to the conventional cylindrical port in terms of combustion efficiency and performance improvement.

  • As the seriousness and necessity of responding to climate change and reducing carbon emissions increases, countries around the world are continuing their efforts to reduce greenhouse gases. Among various efforts, research on CCUS, capturing and utilizing carbon dioxide generated when using carbon-based fuels, is actively being conducted. Studies on pressurized oxy-fuel combustion (POFC) that can be used with CCUS are also being conducted by many researchers. The purpose of this study is to analyze basic information related to the flame structure and pollutant emissions of pressurized oxy-fuel combustion. For this, a counter-flow diffusion flame model was used to analyze the combustion characteristics according to pressure and oxygen concentration. As the pressure increased, the flame temperature increased and the flame thickness decreased due to a reaction rate improvement caused by the activation of the chemical reaction. As oxygen concentration increased, both the flame temperature and the flame thickness increased due to an improvement to the reaction rate and diffusion because of a change in oxidizer momentum. Analyzing the related heat release reaction by dividing it into three sections as the oxygen concentration increased showed that the chemical reaction from the oxidizer side was subdivided into two regions according to the mixture fraction. In addition, the emission index of NO classified according to the NO formation mechanism was analyzed. The formation trend of NO according to each analysis condition was presented.

Reaction Rate Analysis of Combustion for Indonesian Coal Char Applied by External/Internal Diffusion (외부 및 내부 확산을 적용한 인도네시아 석탄촤의 연소 반응율 분석)

  • The experiment was designed to compare the char combustion kinetics of pulverized Indonesia coals commonly utilized in Korea power plants. The reaction rate of coal char has been formulated using the external and internal effectiveness factors to describe the diffusion effect quantitatively. The Random Pore Model (RPM) was used for applying internal specific surface area as a function of carbon conversion ratio. Reaction rate was obtained from reaction time using the Wire Heating Reactor (WHR) which can heat and measure the char particle temperature at the same time. BET and TGA were used to obtain physical properties such as internal specific surface area and structural parameter. Three kinds of Indonesia Sub-bituminous coals "BARAMULTI, ENERGYMAN, AGM" were used in order to derive the activation energy and pre-exponential factor. The results of this study showed that the effect of internal diffusion than that of external diffusion is the dominant as comparison of kinetics was reflected in external and internal effectiveness factors. For three kinds of coal char, finally, activation energy of intrinsic kinetics indicates 110~118 kJ/mol.

  • This numerical study was to investigate the effect of $CO_2$ addition on the structures and NOx formation characteristics in $CH_4$ counterflow diffusion flame. The importance of radiation effect was identified and $CO_2$ addition effect was investigated in terms of thermal and chemical reaction effect. Also the causes of NOx reduction were clarified by separation method of each formation mechanisms. The results were as follows : The radiation effect was intensified by $CO_2$ addition. Thermal effect mainly contributed to the changes in flame structure and the amount of NO formation but the chemical reaction effect also cannot be neglected. The reduction of thermal NO was dominant with respect to reduction rate, but that of prompt NO was dominant with respect to total amount.

T800/AD6005계 복합재의 습기투과에 관한 연구

  • 복합재는 강도가 높고 가볍기 때문에 최근 로켓의 연소관으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 그런데 이 복합재 로켓 연소관은 제조 후 대기 환경에 장기적으로 노출되어 있기 때문에 금속 연소관과는 달리 온도 또는 습도 등의 환경에 대한 영향을 고려해야 한다. 더구나 연소관은 내부에 추진제가 충전되어 있으므로 추진제의 기계적 특성이 습도에 민감함을 생각할 때 강도뿐만 아니라 습기의 투과도 또한 매우 중요한 고려 요소가 된다. 그러나 온/습도 변화에 따른 복합재 자체의 재료 특성 변화에 대한 연구는 많이 보고되었으나 습기의 투과 정도에 관한 연구는 자료가 미흡한 실정이다. 한편, 포화 함수율은 복합재에 따라서 차이가 있으나 T300/5208의 경우 문헌을 참조하면 20-$50^{\circ}C$에서 복합재 무게의 약 1.5% 정도이며 포화에 걸리는 시간은 약 100일 정도로 나타나 있다.본 연구에서는 수분이 복합재를 통하여 투과되는 정도를 고찰하기 위하여 $20^{\circ}C$,95%RH의 온/습도를 유지하는 수조를 제작하였고, 이 수조내에 보관한 복합재 연소관의 실린더 벽면으로 투과되는 습기를 측정하기 위하여 연소관 내에 습도 센서를 투입하여 상대습도를 직접 측정하였다. 복합재 연소관이 로켓에 사용될 때는 연소관 외부에 페인트로 피막 처리하고 연소관 내부에도 추진제와의 사이에 라이너가 접착되어 있어서 수분 침투 및 온도 등의 외부 환경조건에 견디기에 더 양호한 조건이나 본 연구에서는 복합재 자체의 특성을 고찰하기 위하여 섬유를 에폭시에 함침시켜 winding한 상태 그대로의 복합재 연소관 시료를 사용하였다. 습기의 투과는 내부에 라이너/인슐레이션이 피복되거나 또는 추진제가 충전된 경우 많은 감소효과를 보였다. 순수 복합재 연소관의 경우 수조에 넣고 평형에 도달한 후로부터 약 8개월의 습기 투과 상태를 볼대 벽면을 통하여 들어가는 water vapor flux는 $20^{\circ}C$,95%RH 에서 평균적으로 9.3163$\times$$10^{-8}$g/$m^2$sec로 나타났다. 이때 습기가 투과되는 연소관이 국지점을 평판으로 가정하고 Fick's law를 이용하여 구한 습기에 대한 복합재의 확산계수는 D=2.5$\times$$10^{-6}$$mm^2$sec였으며, 이는 다른 graphite/epixy 복합재의 확산계수와 유사한 값을 나타내고 있다. 또한 추진제가 충전된 연소관을 절단하여 밀폐한 후 95%RH 습도 조건에 보관함으로써 연소관 내부의 추진제 기계적 특성에 미치는 침투된 습기의 영향도 함께 고찰하였다. 추진제에 따라 차이는 있겠으나 추진제가 충전된 연소관은 순수 복합재 연소관에 비해 습기의 투과 정도가 작으며, 본 연소관에 충전된 RDX/AP계 추진제의 경우 추진제의 습기투과에 의한 추진제 물성 변화는 미미한 것으로 나타났다.
