The Effect of Grouping by Communication Apprehension Level in Paired Think-Aloud Problem Solving for Middle School Chemistry (중학교 화학에 적용한 해결자.·청취자 활동에서 의사소통 불안 수준에 따른 소집단 구성의 효과)

  • In this study, the effect of grouping by communication apprehension level in paired think-aloud problem solving was examined. Three classes of 9th graders (N=99) were randomly assigned to a control group, homogeneous group or heterogeneous group based on the test scores of their communication apprehension. After the instructions concerning ‘writing balanced chemical equation', ‘the law of conservation of mass', and ‘the law of definite proportions' for 7 class hours, students' chemistry problem solving ability and the perception to the paired think-aloud problem solving were examined. Two-way ANOVA results revealed that there was an interactive effect in the score of chemistry problem solving ability test. In simple effect test for the students of low communication apprehension, the scores of the heterogeneous group were found to be significantly higher than those of the control group. However, the students in homogeneous group had relatively positive perceptions to the paired think-aloud problem solving.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of role assignment in a group on collaboration in a mid- dle school science class to which Collaborative Problem Solving for Character Competency (CoProC) model was applied. For this purpose, 4 classes in the second year of a middle school located in a small and medium-sized city were selected, two classes among these were assigned roles, and the other classes were not. The science class with 4 topics using CoProC model was carried out. As a result of the study, in middle school science class to which CoProC was applied, it was effective in increasing the collaboration. As a result of analyzing the discussion process using the analysis framework for collaboration developed in this study, the group without role assignment was statistically significantly higher than the group with role assignment in the total score and the four sub-factors, especially in 'partnership building' and 'consensus building' which is a high level of collaboration.

  • 질적 양적 성장을 해온 양계산업이 최근에는 계분처리 등 악취문제로 인한 민원발생과 각종 소모성 및 전염성 질병으로 이중고를 겪고 있다. 이에, 주식회사 대자연(사장 신왕기, 이하 대자연)은 15년간의 연구 끝에 고전압과 특수합금을 활용한 고전압 미네랄이온활성수로 악취문제와 세균을 한방에 해결할 수 있는 시스템을 개발했다. 무독성으로 2차 오염물질을 생성하지 않고 세균이나 악취물질을 세정하거나 흡착시키는 임시방편적인 방법이 아니라 세균과 악취물질자체의 분자화학 결합을 깨트려 분해하는 근본적인 문제해결방법으로 음수로 먹이거나 분무로 뿌려주면 된다. 이번호에는 대자연을 소개코자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop problem-solving experiments and investigate the effects of these experiments on student attitudes. According to results the experiments were effective in changing student attitude from 'dead reckoners' to 'empiricists'. In addition, these experiments effectively changed perceptions about experiments, especially in the sub-categories of difference recognition, degree of inquiry, and use of debate.

  • 복잡한 계산 화학 문제의 해결과 신물질 개발을 위한 나노물질 계산 등을 위해서는 고성능 컴퓨팅 파워가 필요하다. 그러나 이러한 계산을 위해 필요한 실험 장비의 가격은 천문학적으로 증가하고 있어 문제 해결의 장애물로 인식되고 있다. 그런데 최근 '그리드(Grid) 컴퓨팅'이라는 새로운 컴퓨팅이 제안되면서 지리적으로 떨어진 여러 자원들을 하나의 슈퍼컴퓨터처럼 사용할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 그리드 환경을 이용하려면 그리드 미들웨어인 글로버스(globus)를 설치하고 인증기관을 통해 사용자 인증과 호스트인증을 거친 후 응용 프로그램들을 설치하여 수행하여야 한다. 이러한 복잡한 과정을 거쳐야 그리드 환경의 응용프로그램을 실행 할 수 있고, 실행할 수 있더라도 그리드 환경에서 작업을 요청하고 할당하려면 RSL이라는 스크립트 언어를 사용해야하는 번거로운 작업이 필요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 복잡한 화학계산과 나노물질 계산을 위한 응용프로그램들을 인터넷 상에서 쉽게 수행할 수 있도록 그리드 환경을 구축하고 웹 인터페이스를 구현한다.

Verbal Behaviors in Paired Think-Aloud Problem Solving (해결자.청취자 활동에서의 언어적 행동)

  • This study investigated students' verbal behaviors in paired think-aloud problem solving. High school students in chemistry classes were asked to use 4 stage problem-solving strategy through paired think-aloud problem solving, and their small-group behaviors were audio/video taped. Verbal behaviors of the solvers and listeners were classified into 8 categories. Solvers frequently exhibited the behaviors of 'require agreement', 'provide', and 'modify', and listeners frequently exhibited the behaviors of 'agree', 'ask', and 'point out'. With behaviors exhibited frequently, the verbal interaction between solvers and listeners were also investigated. In studying partial correlation between verbal behaviors and the improvement of problem-solving ability, listener's 'agree' and 'point out', and solver's 'modify' were positively related with listener's improvement. However, there was negative correlation between listener's 'point out' and solver's improvement. In a perception questionnaire, many students were found to perceive that the paired think-aloud problem solving helped them to be aware of the problem-solving processes. However, some listeners also perceived that it was difficult to know solver's problem-solving processes.

The Effects of Problem Solving Strategy and Paired Think-Aloud Problem Solving on High School Students' Chemistry Problem Solving (문제 해결 전략과 해결자.청취자 활동이 고등학생의 화학 문제 해결에 미치는 효과)

  • The effect of the instructional approach that asked students to check their problem-solving processes through a paired think-aloud problem solving after presenting molecular-level pictures and a four stage-problem solving strategy was investigated. Four high school classes (N = 191) were randomly assigned to St group (using Strategy individually), SL group (Solver Listener), St-SL group (using Strategy-Solver Listener), and control group. Although the test scores of the St-SL group on strategy performing ability were significantly higher than those of the control group, there was not significant difference for the scores in the multiple-choice algorithmic problems. Regarding the subcategories of strategy performing ability test, students' ability of understanding given of problems and deriving the proper physical quantity was improved, but their ability of setting up subgoals and reviewing their solving process was very low. The preference to the strategy of the St-SL group was more positive than that of the St group.

  • 초전도체 선재를 제작하기위해 YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) 와 Ni substrates사이의 계면 문제를 해결하기 위한 buffer layer로써 CaRuO$_3$ (CRO) thu film이 제안되었는데, 이런 buffer layer의 조건으로는Ni metal과 YBCO superconductor사이의 화학적 반응이 없어야 하고 metal component가 YBCO로 diffusion되는 것을 막아주어야 하며 substrates의 산화를 막아주어야 한다. 이런 조건을 만족시키는 것 중에서 CRO thin film이 가장 적절하였지만, CRO의 orthorhombic구조의 distortion에 의만 lattice mismatch 문제가 발생하였다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 이론적인 구조 분석을 통한 CRO의superconductor buffer layer로써의 가능성을 검토해 보는 것이 목적이다.

  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of Collaborative Problem solving for Character competency (CoProC) applied science classes on the character competence and scientific affective characteristics of vocational high school students. To achieve this, two junior classes of chemical industry majors in a vocational high school, were selected as the experimental group with 43 participants, and character competence test, scientific affective characteristic test, group discussion voice recordings, reflection activity sheets were analyzed. Based on the results of the study, the experimental group showed a statistically significant differences in value for the total character competence test score compared to the control group, and it had statistically significant differences in the nine lower character competence factors. Based on the results of the scientific affective characteristic test result, the experimental group was higher in total score to a statistically significant degree compared to the control group, and showed a statistically significant difference in seven of the lower factors, excluding consistency in interest. Therefore, science classes with CoProC applied were effective in cultivating the character competence and enhancing the scientific affective characteristics of vocational high school students.

  • The purposes of this study were to develop teaching strategy enhancing the activity to explore variables and to examine the instructional influences on students' creative thinking skills and critical thinking skills. In this study, a model using listing-excluding-controlling variables (DPAS model) was designed and applied to the existing 'Teaching model for the enhancement of the creative problem solving skills'. And it was implemented to preservice science teachers for the one semester. Results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills, especially in recognizing problems, making hypothesis, controlling of variables and interpreting & transforming of data (p<.05). In addition, the strategy contributed to improve critical thinking skills, especially in making hypothesis and making conclusion & generalization (p<.05).
