Numerical Study on the Validity of Scaling Law for the Heat and Fluid Flow of Compartment Fires (구획화재 열유동에 대한 축소법칙의 유효성에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 환기 특성에 근거한 축소법칙의 유효성을 평가하기 위해 실규모 및 2/5 축소 구획에 대한 화재를 FDS를 이용하여 모사하고 기존의 실험 결과 및 해석 결과 상호간에 비교 분석을 수행하였다. 실규모 및 축소 모형에 대한 해석 결과를 비교할 때 구획 내부 유동 형태 등에 있어서 다소간의 차이를 보였으나 화염의 분출 거동 및 열유동 분포 등의 거시적인 특성에 대해서는 유사한 결과를 보여주었다.

  • 자율운한선박에 설치되는 침수 및 화재 센서들의 정보를 활용하면 위기대응 상황 판단 및 안전성 분석이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 대상 선박에 설치된 센서 정보와 대상 선박의 시뮬레이션 해석정보를 활용하여 손상 및 화재로 인한 위기 상황을 자동으로 인지하고 승조원에게 대응과 안전에 관한 정보를 전시하여 제공하는 모듈을 개발하였다.

A Study of Smoke Movement in Tunnel Fires (터널내에서 화재 발생시 연기 거동에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, reduced-scale experiments as the alternative to a real-scale fire test were conducted to understand fire properties in tunnel, and their results were compared with those of numerical simulation. The 1/20 scale experiments were conducted under the Froude scaling since smoke movement in tunnel is governed by buoyancy farce. A numerical simulations were on performed 3D unstructured meshes with PISO algorithm and buoyant plume models. Results showed that data was in reasonable agreement with the numerical data of smoke velocity, temperature distribution, and clear height.

A Study on the Characteristics of Pool Fire (Pool 화재의 연소 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study is intended to understand flame behavior of the pool fire. Liquid fuels were acetone, methanol, hexane and heptane which are used in many industries. Diameter of vessel was varied from 50 mm to 400 mm and the vessel was made by stainless steel and copper. Combustion time, temperature of vessel wall and heat flux of flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that the burning velocity and flame height was increased according to increase of vessel diameter, and vortex shedding frequency was inverse proportion to vessel diameter. And the characteristics of pool fire were affected by physical and chemical properties of liquid fuel and the vessel materials.

  • In event of a tunnel fire, all kinds of equipment can be destroyed in high temperature that can exceed $1300^{\circ}C$, fatal structural demage can be caused by spalling of concrete structural elements. To make matters worse, there is a high possibility of the secondary damage which can lead to the collapse of the shear resisting structure. Accordingly, it is time that we developed the technology to counter fires in connection with the fire-resistant design of a tunnel structure. To secure the reliability of the fire-resistance performance of a tunnel structure, it is necessary to assess the fire's behavior on every structural element exposed to the fire as well as to calculate the tunnel fire intensity and the quantity of heat released. In this study, we drew out the fire damage range of each structural element of a tunnel and the minimum thickness of concrete cover for each fire-resistant material through some actual experiments of fire behavior on the structural elements of a tunnel.

  • 현재 국내의 주요 샌드위치패널 화재안전성능 평가방법에는 Cone calorimeter (연소성능) 및 가스유해성 시험방법이 있지만 샌드위치패널의 경우 불연재질 속 심재의 연소특성을 측정하여 실제 화재에서의 연소거동을 예측하기가 쉽지 않다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 스티로폼 패널의 화재 안전성 연구를 위해서 ISO 9705 시험(Room Corner Test)을 실시하였다. 실험결과 두 시편 모두 시험이 진행되고 약 12분 정도, 버너의 열량이 100 kW에서 300 kW로 진행되는 시점에서 천정부가 붕괴되어 스티로폼 샌드위치 패널의 구조적인 문제점이 발생되었다. 스티로폼 샌드위치 패널은 내부 심재에 화염이 전파되었을 경우 급속한 화염의 전파 속도로 인해 구조적인 문제점을 발생되는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 향후 이와 같은 스티로폼 샌드위치 패널의 실물 화재 시험에 따른 연구 결과들이 화재안전 성능 등급 분류 기준 설정에 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • In this study, smoke movement in tunnel fires was investigated with various aspect ratio(0.5, 0.667, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) of tunnel cross section. Reduced-scale experiments were carried out under the Froude scaling using 8.27 kW ethanol pool fire. Temperatures were measured under the ceiling and vertical direction along the center of the tunnel. Smoke front velocity and temperature decrease rate were reduced as higher aspect ratio of the tunnel cross-section. Smoke movement was evaluated by analysis of vertical temperature distribution 3 m downstream from the fire source. Elevation of smoke interface according to N percent rule was under about 60% of tunnel height.

  • Thermo-mechanical coupled behavior of an underground structure during a fire accident have not been fully understood yet. Moreover, when such a thermo-mechanical coupled behavior is not considered in numerical analyses based on conventional heat transfer theory, fire-induced damage zone in an underground structure can be considerably underestimated. This study aims to develop a FEM-based numerical technique to simulate the thermo-mechanical coupled behavior of an underground structure in a fire accident. Especially, an element elimination model is newly proposed to simulate fire-induced structural loss together with a convective boundary condition. In the proposed model, an element where the maximum temperature calculated from heat transfer analysis is over a prescribed critical temperature is eliminated. Then, the proposed numerical technique is verified by comparing numerical results with experimental results from real fire model tests. From a series of parametric studies, the key parameters such as critical temperature, element size and temperature-dependent convection coefficients are optimized for the RABT and the RWS fire scenarios.

  • The concrete void slab structure with the existing mushroom slab, is the structure that maximizes the advantages, while minimizing the weakness with removing useless body force of the concrete part, located on the center of the slab cross-section, which does not need to support the structural weight. In this research, a fire test is performed to analyze how the blaze behave according to the thickness of slab cover, with the practical span length of concrete void slab for the slab length 7.5 m. With this heating test, we assumed the uniform-load-model considering fixed loads and live loads, and chose the standard fire test condition. We measured the temperature changes and the deflection character according to the depth from the heat exposure side, and assessed the resisting capability according to the standard KS F 2257-1. The result comes out with the EPS model can secure about 2 hour fire-resisting-capability with 50 mm of cover depth.

Simulation of Heat and Smoke Behavior for Wood and Subway Fires by Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS) (FDS에 의한 목재 및 지하철 화재의 열 및 연기 거동 시뮬레이션)

  • In this study, to propose the analysis method of heat and smoke behavior of fire using the CFD-based fire simulator FDS, comparison of the simulation results against the experimental results and the sensitivity of the results to the grid sizes have been investigated. For the wood fire, thermal images captured from the experiments were compared against the FDS simulations, and the maximum temperatures agreed in~4.3 % error, showing the applicability of FDS in the interpretation of the fire phenomena. In the aspect of the sensitivity to the grid size for the subway fire, FDS results of smoke temperature, CO concentration and visibility converged and showed no distinct changes for the grid size < $28(L){\times}28(W){\times}14(H)$, guaranteeing that the FDS fire model set in this research could interpret the fire phenomena successfully.
