A Study for Psychological Effects which Make-up Behavior Has on Women (화장행위가 갖는 심리학적 효과에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to identify the psychological effect of make-up, to examine women's tendency toward make-up and to figure out relationships between their psychological properties and its functions. This study has verified that makeup has a positive effect on their interpersonal relationships, psychological reaction and self- confidence as well as it meets their fundamental aesthetic needs. And further studies about psychological reason why they wear makeup need to be made. Makeup has an effect on their looks and it has a psychological effect of being able to decorate and move their mind. finally, it is anticipated that the study for psychological approach to makeup could contribute on the study for positive makeup treatment.

A Study on the Relevant Factors of the Psychological Expecter Effects of Make-up according to Body Cathexis and Make-up Attitude (신체만족도와 화장태도에 따른 화장후 심리적 기대효과의 관련변인 연구)

  • The women selected by random sampling were classified into four groups according to their body cathexis and make-up attitude in order to investigate influences in psychological expecter effects of make-up. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The result are as follows. Cluster was classified into four groups: positive congruity(G1), positive incongruity(G2), negative congruity(G3), negative incongruity(G4). The make-up behaviors were found to be very influential factors, and so were desires and clothing values in some degree. But, the psychological expecter effects of make-up according to body cathexis and make-up attitude of adult women showed a difference in subordinate factors of desire, clothing value, and make-up behavior in view of their peculiarities classified in detail.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of make-up attitude, self-esteem and body satisfaction on clothing behavior. The data was collected from 356 female college students in Seoul. For data analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression and t-test were used. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Five factors of make-up attitude were identified: pursuit of confidence, aesthetics, sociality, fashion and attractiveness. 2) Five factors of make-up attitude had Positive correlation related to clothing behavior i. e. aesthetics, exhibition, dependence and sexual attractiveness. 3) The aesthetics and dependence of clothing were influenced by pursuit of confidence, aesthetics, sociality and fashion. The exhibition of clothing was influenced by pursuit of confidence, pursuit of aesthetics and self-esteem. The sexual attractiveness of clothing was influenced by self-esteem, pursuit of aesthetics, attractiveness and fashion. 4) There was significant difference between the group of high self-esteem and low self-esteem on aesthetics and sexual attractiveness of clothing. 5) There was significant difference between the group of high body satisfaction and low body satisfaction on sexual attractiveness of clothing.

Effects of Innovation and Peer Pressure on Color Make-up Behaviors of Middle and High School Students (여중고생의 혁신과 또래압력이 색조화장행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Due to the nature of teenage students' common tendency of being drawn to consumption conformity engendered by popular trends, and further expanding their unique collectivist culture, this study presumes that middle and high school female students as well have an influential factor that creates their distinctive trait. This study is intended to investigate the students' personal characteristics and effects of social reference groups, and further scrutinize how these influences transcends to deviant make-up behaviors. A total of 297 subjects, middle and high school female students, participated in a survey, using questionnaires focused primarily on the degrees of color makeup and the influences imposed by classmates. The findings of the study are as follows. First, regarding makeup behavior displayed by middle and high school female students, social self-esteem had positive influence on innovation and peer pressure. Second, perceived visibility conversely had negative impacts on innovation and peer pressure. This indicates that if perceived visibility is at a salient level, this already signifies lack of innovation. Third, makeup innovation and peer pressure demonstrated by middle and high school students all showed positive influence on their makeup behaviors. Additionally, peer pressure, in comparison to innovation, had greater influence on makeup behaviors, which indicates that peer pressure play a great role in makeup behavior of middle and high school students. Fourth, makeup behaviors showed strong impacts on makeup satisfaction and rendering deviant behaviors, which indicates that a new direction and perspective regarding middle and high school students' makeup behavior is critical.

  • From a social psychological perspective, Make-up is an tool for run a lot smoother and perform communication efficiently. Many people give a turn to hair color through dyeing form due to yearning to change individual image through the image which the color is having. This paper study how make-up behavior, hair color and self-consciousness will affect the Level of Expected social-psychological effect of College Girl Students. In the sense of make-up behavior, according to result, a group of make-up behavior of self-satisfaction-oriented the level of expected social-psychological effect higher than a group of make-up behavior of tradition-oriented. Hair colors doesn't seem to be having much effect on the level of expected social- psychological effect, but have been shown to influence make-up behavior and self-consciousness. On the self-consciousness, a group of high self-consciousness the level of expected social-psychological effect higher than a group of low or fair self-consciousness. They doesn't have much effect passive expected effect as 'complement of self insufficiency' or 'a person consciousness' But they are affect active expected effect as 'the pleasure of change' and 'positive ascent'.

The Effects of Demographic Characteristics and Psychological Characteristic on Make-up Behavior of Women (성인여성의 인구통계적 변인과 심리적 특성이 화장행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study intends to examine the influencing factors in personal intention and show-off of make-up behavior. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The result is summarized as follows.; The influence on personal intention and show-off of make-up behavior can be described into 4 factors that are included in the decision making process of personal intention and show-off, in other words, the demographical characteristic, the body cathexis, the need and the clothing value. The demographic characteristics, the marriage status, the occupation status and the media contact had a direct influence on personal intention, and the educational background had a direct influence on show-off. The body cathexis did not have a direct influence on any subordinate factors of personal intention and show-off, but had indirect influence having the need as a parameter or had no influence having the clothing value as a parameter.

A Study on Makeup Image and Self-Consciousness According to the Level of Expected Socio-Psychological Effect of Makeup (화장의 사회.심리적 기대효과에 따른 화장이미지와 자의식에 관한 연구)

  • This study was made to investigate the differences in Korean woman's perceived makeup image and self-consciousness according to their expectation level in socio-psychological effect of makeup, and to gather information needed for the better understanding of cosmetics consumers and more effective marketing activities of cosmetics industries. Normative-descriptive survey method using questionnaire was employed for the present study. The survey was conducted in August 2001 and the sample consisted of 942 women between the ages of 18 and 50 residing in Seoul and Kyungi province. Data were analyzed by SPSS package. Factor analysis, ANOVA, and MANOVA were employed for the analysis of the data. The results are as follows : (1) Six factors emerged from the data related to the category of expected socio-psychological effect of makeup. Those factors were named as "increasing positiveness", "refreshment", "covering weakness", "self-expression", "consideration for others", and "the tool for self-change". Four factors were found in the category of makeup image, and the factors were named as "refinement", "nobility", "favorable impression ", and "personality ". (2) There was a tendency that those who highly expect the socio-psychological effect of makeup have more positive self-image. Considering this differences in self-image according to the level of expected socio-psychological effect of makeup. service activities for the consumers' positive opinion and attitude to the effect of makeup are needed, and it seems that those service activities will have a good influence on the consumers' emotional health. (3) Subjects with higher level of social anxiety showed higher expectations in refreshment, covering weakness and self-expression. Considering this trend, marketers have to make an constant effort for the variety of cosmetics and makeup manner by which consumers satisfy their expectation in makeup. It seems that the satisfaction of their expectation on the help of makeup effect will contribute to lessen social anxiety, and to get emotional stability. (4) Subjects with higher personal self-anxiety showed higher expectations of the effect. "increase of positiveness".   • 특정 환경이 제시하는 이미지는 색으로 나타내어진다. 그러면, 특징 사회적 환경에 대해 사람들은 특정한 색채 반응을 만들어내는가\ulcorner 특정 사회적 상황에 대해 사람들이 어떤 색채이미지를 만들어 내며, 이런 색채이미지가 사회적 상황을 일관적으로 나타낼 수 있는지를 파악하고자 하였다. 각 사회적 상황에 맞는 색채 코디네이션과 이미지를 찾고자 할 때, 대표적인 경우가 화장이다. 여성의 화장에서 나타나는 색채 이미지는 사용자의 취향과 같은 성격특성에 따라 달라지지만, 이것은 또한 사회적 상황에 따라 다르게 표현되기도 한다. 본 연구에서는 사회적 상황을 캐주얼, 비즈니스, 지적분위기, 이브닝(섹스어필)의 4가지 조건을 제시하고 이것에 따른 색채 감성이미지가 어떻게 나타나는지를 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 각각의 상황은 일관적인 색채 이미지를 가지고 있을 뿐 아니라, 사람들에게 공통적으로 적용될 수 있는 색채이미지로 표현된다는 것을 밝힐 수 있었다. 특정 환경에 관한 개대는 특징적인 색채 이미지로 반영되며, 이런 결과들은 환경색채의 디자인과 구체적인 상황과 맞는 제품의 색조 디자인 등에 직접 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

Appearance Management Activities of Female High School Students Through Star-Entertainer Imitation - School Uniform Modification, Hairstyle, and Makeup - (여고생들의 연예인 모방유형에 따른 외모관리행동의 차이 - 교복변형, 헤어스타일, 화장을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper examines the effect of star-entertainer imitation on female high school students in terms of their appearance management activities such as school uniform modification behaviors, hair style care behaviors, and make-up behaviors. For this research, data of 379 female high school students living in Jeollabuk-do was analyzed through reliability analysis, factorial analysis, cluster analysis, one-way analysis of variance, and cross-tabulation analysis. In the research, based on the type of star-entertainer imitation, the female high school students were divided into three categories: active followers, psychological followers, and passive followers. The research showed that active followers, who exhibited imitation behavior most frequently and had the highest imitation desire, were most frequently involved in school uniform modification. Inclined to imitate the school uniform styles of star-entertainers in soap operas, they modified their school uniforms. The active followers were also enthusiastic about hair care, were well aware of trendy hair styles, and demonstrated a fondness for star-entertainer hair styles. In addition, they were actively involved in make-up activities. They put on basic make-up everyday and exhibited a desire to learn about make-up styles. However, passive followers, who showed the least frequent imitation behavior and the lowest imitation desire, were not as keenly involved in school uniform modification behaviors, hair style care behaviors, or make-up behaviors. The study concludes that by providing teenagers with systematic education on desirable mass media and educating them on proper behavior, an effective educational tool for guidance on clothing habits can be derived.
