Advanced flame quality indicator for emission control (저공해 연소를 위한 화염진단장치의 특성)

  • It is very important to improve the combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emission in order to save energy and environment. Especially, thermal NOx has been reduced through monitoring burner flame, because the thermal NOx is strongly related to flame characteristics. In this work, a flame-monitoring system was fabricated with photodiode, optical fiber, interference filter and data acquisition system, and it was applied to a lab-scale methane combustion system and a testing facility. Flame intensity and mean frequency increased with increasing turbulent intensity and fuel loading. The sensor signal from flame fluctuations differed from that without flame, which showed the availability af the flame scanner to find the presence of flame. NOx emissions increased with flame intensity.

  • 화염스트레치와 확산선호도가 예혼합화염에 미치는 영향을 몇가지 모델에 대해 현상적으로 고 찰하였다. 즉, 정상상태의 구형화염, 구형으로 전파되는 화염, 균일유동장내의 곡면화염, 일차원 평면화염, 그리고 확대유동장내에서 스트레치된 평면화염등을 고찰하였으며, 이 해석의 결과는 화염면의 면적 변화율로 정의된 화염스트레치의 제인자들 즉, 비균일 접선속도장과 전파화염의 곡률에 의한 영향들이 공통적 특성을 나타냄을 보여주고 있다. 화염스트레치와 확산선호도가 화염전파속도에 미치는 복합효과는 세가지로 나타나는데 이는 화염온도의 변화에 따른 화학반 응강도의 변동, 열 및 물질확산의 강도차이, 그리고 대류 및 확산전달의 방향의 상이함에 기인 한다.

Basic Experimental Study of the Edge-Flame Intensity Variation at High Temperature and with Small Fuel-Concentration Gradient (고온 미소농도구배 조건에서의 에지화염 강도 변화에 관한 실험적 기초 연구)

  • In this study, the stabilization of an edge flame and the intensity variation of a diffusion branch were investigated using a multi-slot combustor under conditions of high temperature and small fuel-concentration gradient (FCG). The combustor consists of three narrow channels: a quartz channel and two side-heating combustors. For the accuracy of this experimental study, quantitative analysis was carried out for each boundary condition. Stable edge flames could be observed under high-temperature conditions by controlling the FCG and fuel dilution ratio. Moreover, it was found that the intensity of the diffusion flame was increased by increasing the temperature of the mixture. On the contrary, the intensity of the diffusion flame was decreased by increasing the dilution ratio. It was also found that a propane flame is more sensitively affected by these experimental parameters than a methane flame.

  • The effects of external flow excitation with various frequencies and amplitudes on the flame behavior and pollution emission characteristics from a laminar jet flame are experimentally investigated. Measurements of $NO_x$ emission indices ($EINO_x$), performed in vertical lifted flame like turbulent with various exciting amplitude at a constant resonance frequency, have been conducted. It was also conducted to investigate the effects of excited frequency at a constant exciting amplitude on $NO_x$ emissions with a various frequency ranged 0 Hz to 2 KHz. From the vertical lifted turbulent flame of the excited jet with resonance frequency by strong excitation was shown that the dependence of $NO_x$ emission could be categorized into three groups Group I of long flame length with high disturbances yielding high $NO_x$ emission, Group II of intermediate flame length and relative narrow flame volume with low disturbance yielding low $NO_x$ emission and Group III of long flame length and large flame volume with high time & space disturbances behaviour yielding high $NO_x$ emission.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of forcing amplitude on the tone-excited non-premixed jet flame of the resonance frequency. Visualization techniques are employed using the laser optic systems, which are RMS tomography, PLIF and PIV system. There are three lift-off histories according to the fuel flow rates and forcing amplitudes; the regime I always has the flame base feature like turbulent flame when the flame lift-off, while the flame easily lift-off in the regime II even if a slight forcing amplitude applied. The other is a transient regime and occurs between the regime I and regime II, which has the flame base like the bunsen flame of partial premixed flame. In the regime I and II, the characteristics of the mixing and velocity profile according to the forcing phase were investigated by the acetone PLIF, PIV system. Particular understanding is focused on the distinction of lift-off history in the regime I and II.

A Combustion Characteristics of Attached Jet Flame under the Regular Oscillation (규칙적인 진동 하에서 노즐 부착된 제트화염의 연소특성)

  • A general combustion characteristics of forcing nonpremixed jet in laminar flow rates have been conducted experimentally to investigate the effect of forcing amplitude with the resonant frequency of fuel tube. There are two patterns of the flame lift-off feature according to the velocity increasing; one has the decreasing values of forcing amplitude on the lift-off occurrence when a fuel exit velocity is increasing, while the other has the increasing values. These mean that there are the different mechanisms in the lift-off stability of forced jet diffusion flame. Especially, the characteristics of attached jet flame regime are concentrically observed with flame lengths, shapes, flow response and velocity profiles at the nozzle exit as the central figure. The notable observations are that the flame enlogation, in-homing flame and the occurrence of a vortical motion turnabout have happened according to the increase of forcing amplitude. It is understood by the velocity measurements and visualization methods that these phenomena have been relevance to an entrainment of surrounding oxygen into the fuel nozzle as the negative part of the fluctuating velocity has begun at the inner part of the fuel nozzle.

  • 주유동에 수직으로 분사된 제트 화염의 구조는 이해하기 위하여 화염 길이와 온도를 측정하고 reactive mie scattering 방법을 이용하여 단면 가시화를 실시하였다. 주유동 속도와 제트 분사 속도의 증가에 따라 화염 길이도 함께 증가함을 알 수 있고, 단면 가시화 결과 화염 내부에 존재하는 inner vortical structure는 일반적인 동축제트 화염과 같은 대칭 구조를 갖지 앉고 유동 조건에 따라 inner vortical motion 의 생성 위치가 변화함을 알 수 있다 이는 본 유동장의 특성 중의 하나인 bound vortex와 제트와 주유동이 접하는 상류 면에서 발생하는 rolling-up 의 강도에 좌우됨을 알 수 있다.

A Study on Temperature Measurements of Droplet Diffusion Flame using a Two Color Method (이색법을 이용한 액적 확산 화염의 온도 측정에 관한 연구)

  • In the present study, the temperature distribution of droplet diffusion flames was predicted from the measurements of radiative emissions of soot particles formed. In order to predict the temperature distributions, the radiative emissions from soot particles filtered at both 700 nm and 900 nm were measured using CCD cameras and local emission distributions within the flame deconvoluted with Abel transformation were plugged into a two color method. The experimental results obtained from the present study demonstrate that the two color method as tool for temperature measurements is feasible but can introduce approximately 2% maturement errors in a deconvolution process depending on intervals for the line of sight. The estimated error in temperature measurements was found to be within 18 K at 2000 K.

  • 연료분출을 수반하는 원통형 보염기 후류에 형성되는 확산화염에 대한 이온전류의 특성과 화염의 안정범위를 측정, 분석함으로써 연소특성을 고찰하였다. 난류강도가 큰 경우의 화염일수록 화염의 안정성은 악화되며, 화염내 중앙의 평균 이온전류값이 가장 높은 값을 갖는 영역은 블로오프 직전상태에 비해서 안정시의 경우 더욱 하류측에 존재한다. 난류의 정도가 강한 화염의 경우 국소적으로 반응이 활발한 화염 덩어리가 빠른 속도로 이동하며, 난류의 정도가 강한 화염의 경우에는 반응이 완만한 화염 덩어리가 저속으로 이동한다. 재순환영역에서 주류유동측으로 이동함에 따라 자기상관계수의 저하가 빨라지고 난류 시간스케일이 작아지며, 부염기 직후에서 하류로 이동함에 따라 자기상관계수의 저하가 늦어지고 난류시간스케일이 커진다. 주류공기에 강한 난류를 가하지 않은 경우에는 큰 난류시간스케일에 대응되는 저주파수 특성이외에도 작은 난류 시간스케일에 대응되는 고주파수 특성이 나타나며 , 주류공기에 강한 난류를 가한 경우에는 큰 난류 시간스케일에 대응되는 저주파수 특성이 나타난다.

  • 본 연구에서는 폭발사고가 반복되고 있는 마그네슘합금(Mg-Al alloy) 분진의 예방대책을 위한 안전자료로 활용하기 위하여 폭발특성평가 실험과 화염전파속도를 추정하였다. 화염전파속도는 폭발과압 강도에 영향을 주지만 분진폭발에서는 화염의 확산에 따른 피해예측에도 중요한 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 밀폐공간의 분진폭발에서 화염전파속도를 계산하기 위하여 분진의 연소시간과 화염면의 도달시간을 고려하여 폭발압력으로부터 추정하는 방법을 제시하고 마그네슘합금의 성분비율에 따라 폭발에 따른 화염전파속도를 계산하였다. 그 결과, Mg-Al(60:40 wt%), Mg-Al(50:50 wt%), Mg-Al(40:60 wt%)의 최대화염전파속도는 각각 15.5, 18, 15.2 m/s로 추정되었으며 성분비율에 따라 최대화염속도는 변화하는 경향을 나타냈다.
