A study on determinants having influence on heating value of waste-derived solid fuels (폐기물고형연료 발열량에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The manufacturing of the solid fuel using wastes has been studied on the purpose of the reduction of green house gases and the profit-making as alternative fuel, and thus, it has become as technically improved as to be used as business. However, the production of solid fuel with multi-wastes combination needs a caution while the solid fuel with one-waste has not a significant component change. This study analyzes the solid fuel components through the practical plant experiment to the various wastes. The resulted data shows a different pattern than the theoretical one in the component analysis, and it can be concluded that the adequate uniform mixing has a great influence on the manufacturing of the solid soil.

  • Recently it is a tendency that the heavy fuel oil is considered to be used on board even middle or small sized vessels in order to reduce the operating cost of vessel mused by a rise in international oil prices. In this study, analyzed the physical & chemical properties and examined the effect of refining treatment and a fuel oil additive for MF30 fuel oil which is a mixture fuel oil mixed M.G.O and the heavy oil MF380 use to be possible in the middle&small class vessel. As a results, the effects of two of pre-refinery treatment methods as centrifugal purifier and heating & homogenizing system(M.C.H) are some feeble, but the pour point and the flash point came to be low more or less. The effect of property improvement which is mused by the fuel oil additive did not appear positively.

A Study on the Mixed Fuel Characterization (혼합연료의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Two pure fuel oils(#1 oil, #6 oil), theree pure alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol) were tested for the fuel characteristics such as miscibility (that established which pure fuels and fuel mixtures could be fired in the boiler), flash point, viscosity. Specific target of the study besides the oil/alcohols or oil/alcohol mixture without any modification and with safety. #1 oil could be mixed without any problems at all concentrations with two of the alcohols; these were the ethanol and propanol. However, miscibility of #6 oil with any alcohols and #1 oil with methanol was not possible and very limited in this study. The measurements of flash point and viscosity for the mixtures were done for the comparisons with the pure fuels. There was a marked change of flame shape and flame luminosity as the alcohol content of the mixtures was increased. The mixture flame shortened and became non-luminous compared with a pure fuel oil flame.

  • Vent mixer can provide main flow directly into a recirculation region downstream of the mixer to enhance fuel-air mixing efficiency. Based on experimental results of three-dimensional velocity, vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy obtained by a stereoscopic PIV method, the performance of the vent mixer was compared with that of the step mixer which was used as a basic model. Thick shear layers of the vent mixer induced the increase of the penetration height. The turbulent kinetic energy mainly distributed along a boundary layer between the main flow and the jet plume. This turbulent field activates mass transfer in a mixing region, leading to the mixing enhancement.

  • 화석연료의 고갈과 환경오염이 문제시 되면서 친환경 에너지개발에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그중 바이오디젤은 동,식물성유지 및 폐식용유를 이용하여 생산이 가능할뿐더러 농용엔진에 특별한 개조 없이 사용가능하다. 또한 바이오디젤 자체에 산소를 함유하고 있어 이산화탄소 저감에 효율적이다. 바이오 디젤에 관한 많은 연구가 수행되었으며, 기존의 연구는 단일유지의 폐식용유를 사용하여 바이오디젤을 생산하는 연구가 진행되었다. 하지만 가정에서 배출되는 식물성 폐식용유의 경우 여러 가지가 혼합되어 배출되고 있어, 혼합폐식용유지의 바이오디젤 특성평가가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 폐식물성유지(폐대두유, 폐카놀라유, 폐해바라기유)를 중량비(1:4, 1:1.5 1:0.66, 1:0.25)로 혼합하여 바이오디젤을 생산하고, 생산한 바이오디젤을 농용기관에 이용하여 농용기관의 출력특성 및 배기배출물특성 평가를 실시하였다. 실험에 사용된 농용기관은 배기량이 673cc인 직접분사식 디젤기관(ND10DE, Daedong, Korea)이며, 엔진성능평가를 위해 토크는 토크센서(YDL-704s, Setech, Korea)를 사용하였다. 배기배출물 평가는 배기가스분석기(HG-550, Airlex, Germany)를 이용하여 이산화탄소, 질소산화물을의 배출량을 측정하였다. 폐식용유를 이용하여 생산한 바이오디젤과 경유의 기관성능을 비교한 결과 토크와 축출력의 경우 BD의 혼합량이 증가할수록 줄어들었다. 토크는 혼합된 유지에 따라 상용운전범위인 1500rpm~2400rpm에서 평균 대두와 카놀라유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 7.2%, BD20은 12.1% 감소하였고, 대두와 해바라기유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 11.3% BD20은 16.3% 감소하였다. 또한 해바라기와 카놀라유를 혼합하여 생산한 BD10은 8.3%, BD20은 14.6% 감소하였다. 이는 BD의 발열량이 경유에 비해 낮아 토크가 감소한 것으로 판단된다. 또한 배기배출물 평가의 경우 질소산화물은 BD의 함랑이 증가함에 따라 경유에 비해 배출량이 증가하는 경향을 보였고, 이산화탄소는 저감되는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 바이오디젤이 함산소연료이므로, 연료내의 산소로 인해 완전연소를 촉진시켜 이산화탄소를 저감시키고 질소산화물은 증가된 것으로 판단된다.

Combustion Characteristics Study using Hyper-mixer in Low-enthalpy Supersonic Flow (하이퍼 혼합기를 사용한 저엔탈피 초음속 유동장 내연소 특성 연구)

  • In this study, a forced ignition method with a plasma jet torch is studied in Mach 2 laboratory scaled wind-tunnel. The hyper-mixer is used as a mixer. For two normal injection cases, the one is collided against a wedge plate of the hyper-mixer and the other is directly injected into the cold main flow. For the first case, the hyper-mixer disperses the injected fuel, leading to the mixing enhancement. Furthermore, the fuel-air mixture is provided into the plasma hot gas, which enhances the combustion performance. However, the direct injection into the main flow method spends amount of fuel without ignition in the cold supersonic flow. In the end, for the forced combustion, it is important to supply the fuel-air mixture into the heat source.

  • The air velocity flowing in inner combustion chamber of SCramjet is supersonic and the time of its stay is very short as a few milliseconds. Within this short time, fuel injection, air-fuel mixing, and combustion process should be accomplished. Several methods are suggested for mixing enhancement. Among these, cavity is selected to study for mixing characteristics. The numerical simulation is performed in the case of freestream Mach number of 2.5 and cavity located in front of fuel jet injection. 3 different sized cavities of the same length-height ratio were used in order to recognize the effect about cavity size. Also, the case without cavity was analyzed to find the effect of cavity. Used code compared with the result of experiment under identical conditions and it was verified. Through this comparison and verification, mixing enhancement by cavity size could be confirmed.

  • The interest about new and renewable energy is increasing to reduce the burden of problems by depletion of fossil fuels and air pollutions. For example, LNG/CNG and LPG are expected to be replaced, especially in transportation use, by HCNG mixture and DME-LPG mixture, respectively. Because these new energies are still flammable gases, it is not inherently safe from the explosion. In this research, the quantitative risk analysis for using alternative mixtures in existing recharging facilities has been studied by using three types of explosion models (TNT equivalency model, PHAST and CFD-based FLACS) to manage the risk effectively. The differences of results by models were compared against, and the practical ways of when and how to use these models were suggested. It was also predicted that conventional gas filling stations would be converted as new energy stations without additional explosion risk.

Estimation of the Exhaust Characteristics of Biodiesel Used in Diesel Engine (디젤엔진에서 바이오디젤의 배기가스 특성 평가)

  • In this study, the characteristics of exhaust gas as a function of the biodiesel mixing ratio were investigated. Diesel and waste oil were used for preparing mixed fuel, and the ratios of the mixed fuel were varied in the BD3~BD100 range. The injection pressures(${\Delta}p_{inj}$) was considered as an experimental variable and was set to 400 bar, 600 bar, 800 bar, 1000 bar, and 1200 bar. Furthermore, for quantitatively analyzing the characteristics of exhaust gas(NOx and Soot), the concepts of Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient based on statistics were introduced. Consequently, it was found that the correlation of the emission of NOx and Soot is linear, and the Pearson and Spearman coefficients are -0.732 and -0.724, respectively, under all analysis conditions. Especially, for the injection pressure of 800 bar, a simultaneous reduction in NOx and Soot emission is possible by controlling the biodiesel mixing ratio. This is because the correlation coefficients of NOx and Soot emissions were nearly 0, as the Pearson correlation coefficient was -0.089.

  • The aim of this study was to compare the spray characteristics of a typical fuel (100% diesel, DME) and diesel-DME blended fuel in a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC). The typical fuel (100% diesel, DME) and diesel-DME blended fuel spray characteristics were investigated at various ambient pressures (pressurized nitrogen) and fuel injection pressures using a common rail fuel injection system when the fuel mixture ratio was varied. The fuel injection quantity and spray characteristics were measured including spray shape, penetration length, and spray angle. Common types of injectors were used.
