A heavy fluid is injected to a rotating cylindrical container of flat or inclined bottom filled with homogeneous lighter fluid. Continuous flow-in and spreading patterns over the bottom of the container are observed and at the same time upper-layer motions induced by the movement of the heavy fluid are traced by thymol blue solution. Regardless of bottom geometry, the injected denser fluid is deflected toward "western wall" and continuous its path along the boundary with radial spreading which occurs in the bottom boundary layer to make a quite asymmetric flow. When the bottom contains a slope(${\beta}$-plane), increased pressure gradient causes the fluid move faster to produce a stronger Coriolis force. This makes the width of the flow narrower than that of f-plane. But, when the denser flow reaches the southern part of the container, a local-depth of denser fluid increases (much greater than the Ekman-layer depth) such that the spreading velocity along the wall is reduced and the interfacial slope increases to make the upper-layer adjust geographically to have oppositely directed upper-layer motion along the interfacial boundary. The role of the denser fluid in terms of vorticity generation in the upper-layer is such that it produces local topographic effect over the western half of the container and also induces vortex-tube stretching which is especially dominant in the f-plane.

The material compressions in the vertical composting reactor affect to the biodegradation rates of the organic wastes. This study investigated the variations of physical properties of the composting materials according to the height of reactor due to affect to the settlement in the vertical composting reactor. The variations of decreased temperature after peak temperature showed the different patterns depending on the reactor heights. The variation width of re-increased temperature after peak temperature was reduced as the mixing operations were increased, and increased as the height of reactor elevated. The moisture content and the variation width of the moisture content were increased higher as the height of the reactor became higher. The variations of the bulk density at each height of vertical reactor showed the same tendency comparing with those of the moisture content. The relationship between bulk density and moisture content had shown the quadratic equation (r2=0.94). The dry solid contents at each reactor height were decreased as the height of reactor were increased. The results of the variation of the physical properties during the composting process were caused by the downward compression of the material into the reactor. Settlement rate in the vertical composting reactor was estimated about 2.184cm/day. To increase the biodegradation efficiency in the vertical reactor, the conditions of air path in the composting material matrix have to be investigated afterwards.
To obtain optimum filter media, configuration method and greenhouse wastewater loading in small-scale constructed wetlands (CWs) for treating greenhouse wastewater, the apparatuses were constructed with 4 kinds of combined systems such as vertical flow (VH)-Horizontal flow (HF), HF-VH, HF-VF-HF, VF-HF-HF CWs. The efficiencies of pollutants in greenhouse wastewater were investigated in various CWs under different filter media, configuration methods and agricultural water loading. Removal rates of pollutants under different filter media were in the other of coarse sand>broken stone${\fallingdotseq}$calcite${\fallingdotseq}$mixed filter media for COD, broken stone>mixed filter media>coarse sand>calcite for T-N, and calcite>mixed filter media>broken stone>coarse sand for T-P. The removal rates of pollutants in HF-VH-HF CWs at different configuration methods were higher than those in other configuration methods. The removal rates of pollutants were higher in the order of $150L\;m^{-2}day^{-1}{\fallingdotseq}300L\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ > $600L\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ under different greenhouse wastewater loading. Therefore, optimum configuration method was HF-VH-HF CWs, the optimum filter media was mixed filter media (coarse sand : broken stone : calcite=1 : 1 : 1), and the optimum greenhouse wastewater loading was $300L\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ in HF-VH-HF CWs.
The Bunam Stock ($29.5km^2$ area) is an outcrop of plutonic complex classified four facies: coarse-grained granite, quartz monzodiorite, granodiorite and fine-grained granite. Three facies except the last one exhibit very irregular boundaries with gradational compositional variations between both facies and show concentric zoning from the central quartz monzodiorite through granodiorite to outer coarse-grained granite. Mafic microgranular enclaves (MME) commonly occur in granodiorite. Some MMEs, have very fine-grained chilled margins and indentedly crenulate contacts, and display horizontally circular and vertically elongate shapes. Their shape and granularity indicate coeval flow and mingling of partly crystalline felsic and mafic magmas. MMEs exhibit dark fine-grained margins giving them a ellipsoidal form that has been attributed to undercooling of a mafic magma as blobs intruded into a felsic magma. The observed relations in the Bunam Stock identify that two endmembers are coarse-grained granite from a felsic magma and quartz monzodiorite from a mafic magma, and hybrid is granodiorite including MMEs. So they exhibit concentric zoning that lays the center on the mafic endmember due to magma mixing at the contacts of two magmas, when mafic magma injected into felsic magma. Thus the quartz monzodiorite may probably represent an ancient conduit of mafic magma transport through a granitic magma chamber. Mafic magma would rise through the conduit in which favorable conditions for magma mixing occurred. All these features suggest that they formed from mixing processes of calc-alkaline magma in the Bunam Stock.
Constructed wetland was built for industrial factory wastewater treatment with environmentally sound method from July to October, 2000. Ultimately this case study was carried out to conserve water quality of river and underground water and to provide wildlife habitat and rest place for people in the industrial area. The size of constructed wetland was 10m$\times$6m (upper area) with a treatment capacity of 2.5㎥ per day. It was supplied with wastewater 0.625㎥ at intervals of six hours. Vertical flow system was chosen to promote efficiency. Draining layer was built one meter in soil depth out of sand mixed with pebbles in a ratio of two to one. Perennial emergent plants, Phragmites communis, Typha orientalis, Juncus effusus, Iris pseudoacorus, 20 individuals per square meter were planted. In the aspect of reusing, eco-pond was created for increasing biological species diversity and also deck and information signboard were established for the education of environment. As the result of monitoring, it was revealed that the constructed wetland was effective in removal of BOD$_{5}$, COD, T-N, T-P and has being gradually improved as a wildlife habitat(biotope).

Dynamics of the river plume is a very complicated non-linear problem with the free boundary changing in time and space. Mixing with the ambient water through the boundary makes the problem more complicated. In this paper we reduced 3-dimensional problem into 1-dimensional one by using the integral analysis method. Basic equations have been integrated over the lateral and vertical variations. For these integrations we adopted the well-established assumption that the flow-axis component of plume velocity and the density difference of the plume with the ambient water have Gaussian distributions in directions which are perpendicular to the flow-axis of the plume. We also used the result of our previous study on the lateral spreading velocity of the plume derived under the same assumption. And entrainment was included as a mixing process. The resultant 1-dimensional equations were solved by Runge-Kutta numerical method. Consequently, comparatively easy method of numerical analysis is presented for the 3-dimensional river plume. The method can also be used for the analysis of the thermal plume of cooling water of power plants.
A set of lab-scale polymer synthetic fiber packed column wetlands composing three columns (CW1, CW2 and CW3) with different hydraulic regimes, recirculation frequencies and pollutant loading rates, were operated in 2012. Synthetic fiber tested as an alternative wetland medium for soil mixture or gravel which has been widely used, has very high pore size and volume, so that clogging opportunity can be greatly avoided. The inflow to the wetland was artificial stormwater. All the wetlands achieved effective removal of TSS (94%~96%), TCOD (68%~73%), TN (35%~58%), TKN (62%~73%) and NH4-N (85%~ 99%). Particularly, it was observed that COD was released from the fiber during one distinct period in all wetlands. This was probably due to the degradation of polymer fiber, and the released organic matters were found to serve as carbon source for denitrification. In addition, with longer retention time and frequent recirculation, lower effluent concentration was observed. With higher pollutant loading rate, higher nitrification and denitrification rates were achieved. However, although organic matters were released from the fiber, the lack of carbon source was still the limiting factor for the system since the release persisted only for 40 days.

Anchored measurements (12.5 hr) of suspended sediment concentration and other hydrodynamic parameters were carried out at two stations located at the entrance to Hampyung Bay in summer (August 1999). Tidal variations in water temperature and salinity were in the range of 26.0-27.9$^{\circ}C$ and 30.9-31.5, respectively, indicating exchange offshore and offshore water mass. Active tidal mixing processes at the entrance appear to destroy the otherwise vertical stratification in temperature and salinity in spite of strong solar heating in summer. On the contrary, suspended sediment concentrations show a marked stratification with increasing concentrations toward bottom layer. Clastic particles in suspended sediments consist mostly of very fine to fine silt (4-16 ${\mu}$m) with a poorly-sorted value of 14.7-25.9 ${\mu}$m. However, at slack time with less turbulent energy, flocs larger than 40 ${\mu}$m are formed by cohesion and inter-collision of particles, resulting in a higher settling velocity. Strong ebb-dominated and weak flood dominated tidal currents, in the southwestern and the northeastern part, respectively, result in a seaward residual flow of -10${\sim}$-20 cm $s^{-1}$ at station H1 and a bayward residual flow less than 5.0 cm $s^{-1}$ at station H2. However, mean concentration of suspended sediments at station H1 is higher at flood (95.0-144.1 mg $1^{-1}$) than in ebb (75.8-120.9 mg $1^{-1}$). On the contrary, at the station H2, the trend is reversed with higher concentration at the ebb (84.7-158.4 mg $1^{-1}$) than that at the flood (53.0-107.9 mg $1^{-1}$). As a result, seaward net suspended sediment fluxes ($f_{s}$) are calculated to be -1.7 ${\sim}$-$15.610^{3}$ kg $m^{-2}$$s^{-1}$ through the whole water column. However, the stations H1 and H2 show definitely different values of the flux with higher ones in the former than in the latter. Alternatively, depth-integrated net suspended sediment loads ($\c{Q}_{s}$) for one tidal cycle are also toward the offshore with ranges of 0.37${\times}$$10^{3}$ kg $m^{-1}$ and 0.21${\times}$$10^{3}$ kg $m^{-1}$, at station H1 and H2, respectively. This seaward transport of suspended sediment in summer suggests that summer-time erosion in the Hampyung muddy tidal flats is a rather exceptional phenomenon compared to the general deposition reported for many other tidal flats on the west coast of Korea.
