  • We surveyed 586 patients who had been examined CCTA. Out of those patients, 299 (52%) has stenosis of coronary arteries; 166 males (28%) and 133 females (23%). Among them 246 stenosis patients (82.6%) are in 50's to 70's. The number of patients with 50% or more stenosis in more than 1 coronary artery is 299 including 43 males (33.9%) in their 60's and 39 females (37.5%) in their 70's. When a vessel score is higher than 2 points, 70 patients (50.1%) among 139 have 70% or more stenosis; 32 males (39.5%) in their 60's and 27 females (46.6%) in their 70's. It is noted that 14 patients in their 70's show more cases compared to other ages up to 2 or even 5 times when a vessel score is 3 points. LAD shows 77.6% of stenosis, LCX 47.5% and RCA 60.5%. Frequency of a triple vessel disease is high for patients in their 70's; 15 males (36.6%) and 13 females (56.5%) for both. 196 people (33.4%) in the group with stenosis have calcification, while only 40 (6.8%) in the group without stenosis have it. It means that calcification has a significant, if not absolute, correlation with stenosis of coronary arteries.

  • We report a case of a 40-year-old woman whose right ventricular out-flow tract was moderately obstructed by a heavily calcified pericardial ring. It was passing over the base of pulmonary artery and mid-portion of left ventricle but the other parts of the pericardium was mildly fibrotic. The pericardium and calcified ring were completely removed under cardiopulmonary bypass. The patient was recovered uneventfully and we could not find the specific cause of calcified pericardial ring.

  • The most common anatomic location of calcific tendinitis is the suprasupinatus muscle of the shoulder joint. However, it is known to develop in any joint including the hip, knee. Infarction of skeletal muscle in the distal areas of the limbs due to vascular occlusion is a well recognized systemic condition in patients who have diabetes. The author experienced mass-like lesion combined muscle infarction and calcification within pure semitendinosus tendon without diabetes in posterosuperior area of distal thigh in old age.

  • Calcifying fibrous pseudotumors (CFP) are rare soft tissue tumors that have unique histopathologic features characterized by a dense hyalinized collagenous tissue interspersed with benign spindle cells, lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate, and psammomatous or dystrophic calcifications. We report here on a case of calcifying fibrous pseudotumors in the pleura and provide a literature review.

  • By applying the various energy spectrum imaging functions of DECT, To quantitatively distinguish between contrast agent and calcification, changes in image quality are analyzed by comparing CNR and SNR. We investigated the level of dose reduction during two scans and one VNC scan. As a result, contrast agent and calcification were best distinguished in the 70 keV area, CNR and SNR were excellent, and scan dose was reduced by about 26.5%. Therefore, by applying DECT, meaningful results were obtained that could visually and quantitatively distinguish between the intravascular contrast agent and the shade of calcification. If clinical research is conducted in the future considering the patient's age, gender, and body type, quantitative analysis of calcification will be possible even with intravascular contrast agent flowing in, which will have a significant effect in reducing the patient's scan dose and the burden of multiple scans.

  • Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH) is a rare vascular tumor of borderline or low-grade malignancy, and its prognosis is unpredictable. Herein, we describe the case of a 47-year-old asymptomatic female with a diagnosis of multinodular PEH. During a 7-year follow-up, the nodules with large size and high 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in the initial study showed progression with increasing sizes; however, most small nodules (size < 1 cm) demonstrated spontaneous regression with peripheral rim or nodular calcification. The patient underwent surgical resection for an enlarged nodule. Of note, it is unusual for an individual to have mixed progression and regression concomitantly, which may be helpful in predicting the prognosis.

  • Background: Using the neovascularizing properties of the omentum, we studied the viability and vascularity of the cryopreserved rat tracheal allografts with omental implantation. Material and Method: The cryopreserved tracheal allografts of eight-week old male Sprague Dawley rats were implanted into the omentum. The rats were divided into the four groups according to the duration of cryopreservation and of omental implantation. We examined the tracheal allografts histologically for viability of cartilages, inflammation and fibrosis of smooth muscle and connective tissue, and degree of vascularity. Result: The degree of inflammation in the smooth muscle and the connective tissue of the tracheal allografts was not statistically related to neither the duration of cryopreservation or of omental implantation. The tracheal cartilages of the tracheal allografts were found to be severely calcified in all cases. Significant difference in vascularity was found between the groups I and II (p < 0.05). And a sufficient vascularity in the intercartilaginous space was observed in the mid portion of the tracheal allografts as well as both ends. Conclusion: In conclusion, the omental implantation for 2 weeks could establish a sufficient vascularity in the intercartilaginous spaces for maintaining the viability of the tracheal allografts. This study might provide a possibility of the sequential tracheal allotransplantation after omental implantation.

  • Calcific constrictive pericarditis is considered to be a nonspecific response to chronic inflammation. This disease has become rare, because the cause of it is usually tuberculosis, which has the tendency to decrease. Other possible causes of it include radiation, rheumatoid disorders, sarcoidosis, and trauma. Whatever the etiology, it can lead to cardiac tamponade by reducing cardiac diastolic filling. We report, herein, the case of a patient with heart failure by a calcific pericardial ring.
