Influential Factors for NO_X Reduction Performance of Urea-SCR System for an In-use Medium Duty Diesel Engine (중형 운행 경유차용 Urea-SCR 시스템의 아랫첨자 $NO_X$ 저감성능에 미치는 영향인자)

  • This study is a part of project of urea-SCR system development for an in-use medium duty diesel engine. This study shows the effect of ammonia oxidation catalyst and SCR volume on $NO_X$ reduction performance. When AOC(Ammonia Oxidation Catalyst) is not used, the urea injection should be controlled accurately to prevent $NH_3$ slip. However, it is found that the accurate $NH_3$ slip control is not easy without AOC in real engine operating conditions, because $NH_3$ and $NO_X$ reaction characteristics change with many factors such as exhaust gas temperature and $NH_3$ absorbance on SCR. SCR volume is also one of important design parameters. This study shows that $NO_X$ reduction efficiency increases with increase of SCR volume especially at high space velocity and low exhaust gas temperature conditions. Additionally, this paper shows the emissions of EURO-2 medium duty diesel engine can be improved to the level of EURO-5 with a DPF and urea-SCR system.

  • The globalization of the economy has strengthened competition in all industries. Facing an intensely competitive environment, the firm's choice of location is one of the most important strategies in enhancing its competitiveness. This paper aims to examine the locational changes and the spatial restructuring of suppliers firm with regard to modularization and customer diversification which result from the process of assembler's restructuring after the financial crisis. Some experimental findings which have been identified throughout this study can be summarized as follows: First, a number of suppliers has been located in the southern Seoul metropolitan area and northern Chungcheong area. And Hyundai's suppliers has been enlarged in the Seoul metropolitan area and Kia's in the Southeastern area. Second, suppliers who transact with several assemblers(network trade) tend to be more dispersed, but dedicated(exclusive) suppliers are more concentrated on assembly plants. Also it was confirmed that 'JIS(Just In Sequence)' system which is more detailed than 'JIT(Just In Time)'system has been used. Third, it was Prominent that suppliers are internalizing in order to reach economies of scale compare to assemblers are externalizing.

  • In modern society, deaths and property damage due to drowsiness occur every year enormously. Methods to reduce such damage are being studied a lot in all walks of life, and research on preventing drowsy driving is particularly active in automobiles. In this paper, as an Arduino-based water gun firing system that learns open and closed eyes using YOLO, we propose a drowsy prevention system that fires a water gun when the duration of the closed eye exceeds a certain time. This system can be applied and used in various fields, but especially when applied to a car, it is not necessary to purchase expensive specifications and if you pay a little attention, you can reduce accidents caused by drowsy driving by 100% at a very low cost. In addition, it can be said that it is an independent system that overcomes different specifications for each company.

  • Due to the recent accident caused by the automated vehicle, discussions on the ethical aspects of AI have been actively underway. This paper confirms that AI is inevitably connected to ethical components through the concepts and techniques related to robots-AI, and argues that ethical aspects are built-in, not post facto. Furthermore, this devises a solution to the trolley dilemma that can serve as a clue to ethical problems associated with automated vehicles. Preferentially, that process contains writing Bayesian networks. Next, only important and influential data are left after the pre-processing stage, and crowd-sourcing & extrapolation is used to calculate the exact figures of the networks. Through this process, this argues that humans' subjects are certainly included in implementing algorithms and models and discusses the necessity and direction of engineering liberal arts, especially education of ethics that distinguished from major education to prevent distortions and biases abouts AI systems.

  • Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) or Smart Cruise Control (SCC) is installed in a modern vehicle, and the amount of data exchange between ECUs increases rapidly. Therefore, Automotive Ethernet, especially SOME/IP, which supports wide bandwidth and two-way communication, is widely adopted to overcome the bandwidth limitation of traditional CAN communication. SOME/IP is a standard protocol compatible with various automobile operating systems, and improves connectivity between components in the vehicle. However, no encryption or authentication process is defined in the SOME/IP protocol itself. Therefore, there is a need for a security study on the SOME/IP protocol. This paper proposes a deep learning-based intrusion detection system in SOME/IP and performs six attacks to confirm the performance of the intrusion detection system.

  • In modern times, with advances in semiconductor technology such as electronic devices, the need to improve the quality of onboard equipment with advanced electronic parts in automobiles, drones, airplanes, projectiles, and various fields, and reduce the impact of various disturbances on onboard equipment is becoming more important. Vibration control through hardware must be determined to prevent damage and improve quality to equipment operating in various environments such as automobiles, drones, airplanes, and projectiles. This study focuses on the study of vibration damping systems to protect mounted equipment from various disturbances and improve stability. Dynamic characteristics analysis, including compressive stiffness, damping rate, and frequency response, and vibration characteristics in the frequency domain of rubber dampers were identified through FEM analysis to identify the characteristics of rubber dampers. Through these findings, we would like to present the criteria for selecting a suitable rubber damper under various disturbance conditions.

Benchmark Test of CFD Software Packages for Sunroof Buffeting in Hyundai Simplified Model (차량 썬루프 버페팅 현상에 대한 전산 해석 소프트웨어의 예측 성능 벤치마크 연구)

  • Sunroof buffeting is one of the most critical issues in the vehicle wind noise phenomena. The experimental approach to solve this issue typically requires a lot of time and resources. To reduce time and cost, the numerical approach could be taken, which can also privide more insights into physical phenomena involved in sunroof buffeting, only if the accuracy in its predictions are guranteed. The benchmark test of various numerical solvers is carried out for the buffeting behavior of a simplified vehicle body, the Hyundai simplified model(HSM). The results of each solver are compared to the experimental measurements in a Hyundai aeroacoustic wind tunnel(HAWT) at various wind speeds. In particular, acoustic response tests were performed and the results were provided prior to all simulations in order to consider the real world effects that could introduce discrepancies between the numerical and experimental approaches. Through this study, most solvers can demonstrate an acceptable accuracy level for actual commercial development and high precision experimental data and computational prediction priories can be shared in order to promote the numerical accuracy level of each numerical solver.

Hybrid Multiple Hub-and-Spoke Vehicle Routing Model for Hyundai Mobis Automotive Service Parts Transportation Planning (하이브리드 다중 Hub-and-Spoke 차량 경로 계획 모형 : 현대모비스 자동차 보수용 부품 사내 운송 계획 최적화를 중심으로)

  • Hub-and-spoke transportation network is a powerful and useful network structure that takes full advantage of economies of scale on routes between hubs. In recent studies, the network structure is extended to hybrid hub-andspoke that allows direct transportation between spokes. In this study, we considered more extended network structure which is called hybrid multiple hub-and-spoke that has multiple hubs and allows direct transportation between spokes. We developed a mathematical optimization model for automotive service parts transportation planning under hybrid multiple hub-and-spoke network structure. The model suggests a long-term transportation route planning and a short-term vehicle assignment planning. The model is verified by simulation and validated in real world application to Hyundai Mobis automotive service parts transportation planning. From the simulation result, the model reduced the transportation cost about 24.7%, the total distance about 6.8% and the CO2 emissions about 8.8%. In real world application for 6 months from July to December 2010, the model reduced the transportation cost about 9.1% by changing the long-term transportation route without daily vehicle assignment planning.

  • 현대 사회는 4차 산업혁명을 통해 빠르게 발달하고 있다. 이러한 사회에서는 새로운 지식과 기술이 끊임없이 만들어지고 기존의 지식과 기술이 도태되고 지식과 기술의 생명주기가 점차적으로 빨라지고 있다. 이에 따라 새롭게 제시되는 지식과 기술을 적합한 문제에 적용하여 문제를 해결하는 능력의 중요성이 커지고 있다. 특히 차세대 기술로 평가받는 인공지능, 로봇, 자율 자동차, 사물 인터넷 등의 기술과 연관된 문제를 해결하는 방법은 컴퓨터를 활용한 문제 해결방법과 밀접하게 연관돼있기 때문에 컴퓨터를 활용하여 주어진 문제를 표현하고 해결하는 능력은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 운영체제에서 기본적으로 제공되는 파일 관리 프로그램에 대한 문제점을 제기하고 문제 해결을 위해 컴퓨팅 사고력을 활용해서 문제에 대한 조사 단계, 분석 단계, 그리고 자동화 단계를 거쳐 문제를 해결한다.

Research and development of Hyundai FFVs(flexible fuel vehicles) (현대 FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle) 개발)

  • This paper describes Hyundai's research and development work on a flexible fuel vehicle (FFV). The work on FFV has been conducted to evaluate its potential as an alternative to the conventional gasoline vehicle. Hyundai FFV described here can be operated on M85, gasoline, or any of their combinations, in which the methanol concentration is measured by an electrostatic type fuel sensor. For that operation, a special FFV ECU(Eletronic Control Unit) has been developed and incorporated in the FFV. The characteristics affecting FFV operation, such as FFV ECU control strategy and injector flow rate, have been investigated and optimized through the experiment. And various development tests have been performed in view of engine performance, durability, cold startability, and exhaust emissions reduction. The exhaust gas aftertreatment system consisting of manifold type catalyst and secondary air injection system shows good emission reduction performance including formaldehyde, and finally, the possibility of the FFVs as the low emission vehicles is evaluated by presenting NMOG(Non-Methane Organic Gases) levels with respect to M0 and M85. With these results, it is concluded that FFV can be a candidate for the low emission vehicles, but more works on its durability improvement is required.
