  • 본 연구는 신 국제무역이론(Meltzer, 2012, 2014, 2015)에 대한 실증분석을 목적으로 한다. 신국제무역이론은 기술혁신역량에 대한 이질적 기업분포가 국제무역에 미치는 영향을 중심으로 전개된다. 이 새로운 국제무역이론은 기술혁신분포형태가 국제무역효과를 결정한다는 핵심가정에서 출발하기 때문에 실증적으로 우리나라 제조 기업 기술혁신분포를 추정하고, 기술혁신분포형태 즉 우리나라 기업의 기술혁신과 기술모방분포에 대한 통계적으로 검증하여, 신 국제무역이론기반에 대한 적정성을 평가하였다. 본 분석결과를 바탕으로 기술정책 및 산업정책 방향을 간단하게 제언하였다.

Productivity Effect of Firms' External R&D and the Moderating Effect of Firm Size (기업 외부 연구개발투자의 생산성효과와 기업규모의 조절효과)

  • The present study analyzed the effect of firms' external research and development (R&D) on corporate productivity, while investigating the moderating effect of firm size on the external R&D-productivity nexus. In the empirical analysis, we estimated South Korean manufacturing firms' total factor productivity (TFP) using the firm level data drawn from the Survey of Business Activities (Korea National Statistical Office) for the years 2006-2015. Thereafter, focusing on the role of external R&D and its interaction with the firm size in determining firms' TFP, the productivity function was estimated as well. To this end, we used ordinary least squares (OLS) and quantile regression to highlight the heterogeneous impacts of external R&D by companies' productivity level. Empirical results confirmed that firms' external R&D significantly enhanced corporate productivity in all manufacturing industries, from high-tech to low-tech. The moderating effect of firm size in determining the productivity effect of external R&D was not as prominent as in the case for internal R&D, which exhibited some degree of the size premium in the productivity-enhancing effect. These results suggest that regardless of the firm size, external R&D can be an important channel for corporate productivity improvement, and can be a particularly effective strategy for SMEs with relatively limited internal R&D capacities.

How Do Firms' Innovation Behaviors Affect their Outputs in Korea? (기업의 혁신 활동이 기업성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study empirically investigates applicable possibility of open technology innovation with which the government is concerned, by figuring out the relationship between firms' innovation behaviors and innovation outputs and their utilization of information network. Empirical methodology was employed as logit regression to explain firms' innovation behaviors and the data set includes more than 2500 firms in the manufacturing sectors. First, empirical findings showed that firms' innovation competencies and behaviors can be explained as the trend of patent application, sales and innovation outputs significantly. The patents of small and medium-sized businesses are inclined to be positive to information sources of university and government-supported research institute and the sales increased when they had labs to concentrate on R&D. On the other hand, the existence of labor union turn out to be negative to their sales. Second, the types of information network which firms utilize turned out to be connected with their innovation behaviors and purposes. Third, four types of innovation, i.e., product, process, organization, and marketing innovation was employed and innovation behaviors and outputs are well connected.

The Advertising Effect on A.I. as an Endorser: Focusing on Innovativeness and Anthropomorphism of Consumer (인공지능(A.I.)의 보증인 광고효과 분석: 수용자의 혁신성과 의인화 영향을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify whether the endorser effect similar to humans can be created in advertising campaigns based on the artificial intelligence endorser. In particular, considering the characteristics of artificial intelligence, a research model was presented by convergence of consumer innovativeness and anthropomorphism. The results of the online survey of 244 respondents showed that expertise of the artificial intelligence endorser has a positive effect on both brand attitude and purchase intention, but not for trustworthiness while it has a positive effect on brand attitude. Also, the effect of consumer innovativeness and anthropomorphism on brand attitude and purchase intention for artificial intelligence was found. The endorser effect was expanded to artificial intelligence, which is an intangible object, and the existing theory and research results were combined to re-verify it. Theoretical and practical implications for artificial intelligence-based products and services were presented.

The Effect of Management Innovation on the Relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and Financial Performance (국내 제조기업의 경영혁신이 사회적책임활동과 재무성과간의 관계에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the direction of CSR activities for sustainable management by analyzing the mediating effect of management innovation on the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and financial performance. In order to verify the research hypothesis, the results of the questionnaire of 517 employees of domestic manufacturing companies were obtained and analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 20.0. First, CSR activities have a positive effect on management innovation. Second, management innovation and financial performance showed a positive relationship. Third, we confirmed the mediating effect of management innovation on CSR activities and financial performance. Lastly, we can confirm only the partial control effect according to the size of company in the relation of CSR activity and management innovation. It is necessary to establish systematic theories between CSR activities and financial performance through further analysis of various parameters in the future.

R&D and Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis: CO2 Case (R&D 투자와 환경쿠즈네츠 곡선 가설: CO2 사례 분석)

  • In this paper, as a determining factor of the Environment Kuznets Curve hypothesis, we analyzed the impact of technological innovation. In this paper, in order to empirically validate the role of technological innovation to an inverted U-shaped Environments Kuznets Curve hypothesis, we utilize the 2SLS considering relationship between R&D and the GDP per capita. Also, using the Panel VAR (Panel Vector Auto Regression) model to analyze with what time lag R&D per capita has impact on the emissions of greenhouse gases per capita. Empirical results show that R&D per capita(proxy of innovation) is a important factor to explain Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis, and that the external shock such as R&D per capita reduces greenhouse gas emissions per capita with about 3 time lag.

  • This study discussed 'inclusive growth', which recently has gained attention as the 4th Industrial Revolution spreads, and considered innovative growth as a requirement for inclusive growth. Combining inclusiveness and innovativeness, a new concept of 'Digital New Deal' is suggested. Specifically, the new market creation strategy through digital transformation of existing industries and public sectors, and solving social problems were presented. It also analyzed problems of the past government-led top-down innovation drive and suggested the "Hybrid" approach as a new way of promoting digital New Deal. Finally, we looked at the 'job creation' effect, discussed the meaning of it in terms of inclusiveness and innovativeness, and proposed a policy alternatives to create lasting effects.

The Influence of Learning Organization Building Factors on Psychological Capital and Innovative Behavior in Firms (기업의 학습조직 구축요인이 심리적 자본과 혁신행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper aims to examine the mediating effects of psychological capital on the relationships between learning organization and innovative behavior. 310 sheets of questionnaires were gathered from the organizational members of the companies in 5 cities, including Seoul and Pohang and analysed using structural equation modelling technique. The results show followings: First, the human factor of learning organization has a significant influence to the innovative behavior and the psychological capital. Second, structural factor of learning organization has a significant influence to the psychological capital but does not have a significant influence to the innovative behavior. Third, the mediating effect of psychological capital has a significant partial effect between human factor of learning organization and innovative behavior, and full effect between structural factor of learning organization and innovative behavior. The results of this study implies that some guideline could be used in promoting learning organization and making implementing strategy.

Schooling, Technology-specific Training and Economic Growth: a Theoretical Approach in a Model of Endogenous Innovation (학교교육과 기술특화교육의 기술혁신 및 경제성장효과: 내생적 기술혁신모형에서 이론적 접근)

  • This paper introduces household's decision for schooling and firm's decision for technology-specific training together into the second generation model of endogenous innovation, and analyses how schooling and technology-specific training interact each other, how they respectively affect innovation and economic growth, and also how the portfolio mix of schooling and technology-specific training changes as economy becomes more innovative. Main results are as follows: First, schooling and technology-specific training both have "inverted-U"shape growth effects. Second, schooling investment per labor required for growth maximization is always greater than that for firm profit maximization. Third, the optimal schooling for growth maximization decreases with technology-specific training. Fourth, the schooling effect on technology-specific training is "U"shaped, so that for firm's profit maximization schooling is substitutable for technology-specific training at the relatively lower level of schooling but complementary at its relatively higher level. Fifth, as economy becomes more innovative, the portfolio mix of education changes in favor of schooling.
