Anticarcinogenic Effect of Garlic Juice on Hamster Buccal Pouch (마늘의 항암효과에 대한 햄스터의 협낭 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Anticarcinogenic effects of garlic juice were studied in hamsters exposed to 9,10-dimethyl-1, 2-benzan-thracene in their buccal pouches. The distribution of nodule quantity and size was recorded among different groups of hamster. The results show that nodule formation was suppressed in hamsters which were fed with garlic juice compared to hamsters which were not. The average nodule volume was 81.10㎣ for hamsters fed with 3% garlic juice and 181.26㎣ for hamsters without garlic in their diet after 90 days of treatment.

  • In order to examine the anticarcinogenic effects of garlic juice on the hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis induced by 9, 10-dimethyl-1, 2-benzanthracene (DMBA) totally 135 hamster.0.5% DMBA in mineral oil were painted onto the hamster buccal pouch three times a week on 50th, 70th and 90th day, while normal saline, 1% and 3% garlic juice were forced to oral tube feeding. Tumor cell induction could be seen on 50th experimental day, presumed to early carcinogenic inductive stage. And the tumor cells proliferated rapidly thereafter, so 70th and 90th experimental day were chosen for the comparison of anticarcinogenic effect of garlic juice. The every specimens were fixed in 10% buffered formalin for routine histopathological observation and also fixed in Carnoy's solution for the BrdU immunohistochemital detection of S-stage tumor cell distribution during the carcinogenesis. There showed more or less increased anticarcinogenic effect of garlic juice against DMBA induced hamster buccal pouch carcinoma, increased comparing to the control group showing invasive tumor growth after all histopathologically, BrdU immunoreactivity on normal pouch mucosa epithelium, representing the mitotic status, more decreased in the garlic juice feeding group than the control group. Meanwhile the neoplastic epithelium of all experimental groups showed much increased BrdU immunostaining irregularly.

A Study on Correlation of Entry into Hibernation and Epileptic Fit in Hibernators (동면돌입과 전간발작의 상호관련성에 관한 연구)

  • There are considerable interests in bat biology for investigating hibernation mechanism, in special regard to a hypothesis that the entry into hibernation is closely related with epileptic fit (petit mal) accompanying falling of body temperature, which is characterized by 3 spikes and wave/sec formation in electroencephalograph (EEG). This study was designed in order to examine physiological parameters (body temperature, heart rate, electroencephalograph and brain mapping) during normal patterns of the entry into hibernation and the hibernation period, and to observe effects of epileptogenic agents such as THC, Metrazol, and ILS on the physiological parameters. Based on the experimental results the entry into some hibernation seems to be related with epileptic fit, and therefore it is deduced that north temperate bats and the hamsters might be induced into hibernation by epileptogenic factors (pentylenetetrazol, THC and ILS etc) accompanying falling of body temperature and unique EEG and brain mapping.

Three morphological types ot the genus Metagonimus encysted in the dace, Tribolodon taczanowskii, caught from the Sumjin River (섬진강산 황어에 피낭한 Metagonimus 속 선충의 세 가지 형태학적 유형)

  • Three morphological types of the genus Metagonimus were found encysted in the dace, Tribolodon tacganowskii, caught from the Sumjin River, Korea. They include Metagonimus Yokogawa type (M. yokogawai) , Miyata type, and Koga type according to Saito's classification. The metacercariae were experimentally fed to rats and hamsters and a total of 1,624 Metagonimus worms were recovered from their small intestine. The number of each type was 820 for Yokogawa type, 688 for Miyata type, 46 for Koga type, and 70 undetermined. The major differential keys between Yokogawa and Miyata types were in the position of two testes, distribution of uterine tubules, and size of the eggs, and the keys between Miyata and Koga types were in the position of two testes, distribution of vitelline follicles, and size of the eggs. The validity of Miyata type as a specific level should be retained until more convincing evidences are obtained. Koga type is regarded as a synonym of M. takahashii. The present results reveal that there are 3 morphological types of Metagonimus whose larvae are encysted in the dace, T. tacganowskii, from the Sumjin River. Characterization of the Stretch-Activated Channel in the Hamster Oocyte (햄스터난자에서 신전에 의해 활성화되는 통로의 성상)

  • Stretch-activated channels (SACs) responds to membrane stress with changes in open probability (Po). They play essential roles in regulation of cell volume and differentiation, vascular tone, and in hormonal secretion. SACs highly present in Xenopus oocytes and Ascidian oocytes are suggested to be involved in the regulation of pH and fluid transport to balance the osmotic pressure, but remain unclear in mammanlian oocytes. This study was investigated to find the presence of SACs in hamster oocytes and to examine their electrophysiological properties. To infer a role of SAC in relation to the development of early stage, we followed up to the stage of two-cell zygote with patch clamp techniques. Single channels were elicited by negative pressure (lower than ­15 cm$H_2O$). Interestingly, SACs were dependent on permeable cations such as $Na^+$ or $K^+$. As permeable cation removed from both sides across the membrane, SAC activity completely disappeared. When permeable cations present only in intracellular compartment, outward currents appeared at positive potentials. In contrast to this, inward currents occurred only at the negative voltage when permeable cation absent in cell interior. These result suggests that SAC carry cations through the nonselective cation channel (NSC channel). Taken together, we found that stretch activated channels present in hamster oocyte and the channel may carry cations through NSC channels. This stretch activated-NSC channels may play physiological role(s) in oocyte growth, maturation, fertilization and embryogenesis in fertilized oocytes to two-cell zygotes of hamster.

  • 텍스트 기반 언어 스몰베이직은 적은 수의 언어 특징을 가지고 있어 배우기 쉽고 이후에 C/C++/Java로 빠르게 전환할 수 있기 때문에 청소년 코딩 교육용 언어로 적합하다. 코딩 교육에 흥미를 높이기 위해 다양한 라이브러리가 필요한데 마이크로소프트에서 개발한 스몰베이직 환경에서는 로봇 프로그래밍을 위한 라이브러리를 지원하지 않는다. 이 논문에서 오픈소스 소프트웨어 스몰베이직 환경하에 동작하는 햄스터 로봇 라이브러리를 설계 및 구현하였다. 교육용 언어 스크래치와 파이썬에서 유사한 로봇 프로그래밍 라이브러리를 지원하지만 스크래치는 그림 기반 언어이기 때문에 이후 C/C++/Java로 전환하기 어렵고, 파이썬은 객체와 클래스 개념을 포함하고 잇어서 초보자가 배우기 어렵다. 이 논문에서 개발한 라이브러리를 활용하여 데모 프로그램을 작성함으로써 쉽게 스몰베이직 기반 로봇 프로그래밍을 할 수 있을을 확인하였다.

In Vitro Fertilization of Bovine Follicular Oocytes Matured in Culture with Bull Spermatozoa Preincubated in the Uteri Isolated from Hamsters (체외배양한 소난포란과 햄스터척출자궁에서 전배양한 소 정자의 체외수정에 관한 연구)

  • The present studies were conducted to investigate the possibility of capacitation of bull spermatozoa in the uteri isolated from estrous hamsters and to investigate the possibility of in vitro fertilization of follicular oocytes matured in culture, using ejaculat spermatozoa preincubated in the uteri isolated from estrous hamsters. The follicuar oocytes matured in culture were not fertilized after insemination spermatozoa preincubated for 3 and 5.5-7 h in the uteri isolated from estrou hamsters, but 5, 77, 85 and 50-67% of those oocytes were fertilized by spermatozoa preincubated for 3.5, 4, 4.5 and 5h in those uteri, respectively.

The Effect of Repeated Application of A Mouthwash to the Mucosa of the Hamster Cheek Pouch (햄스터에서 에이 마우스워시의 구강점막자극시험)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the irritant potential of A mouthwash in hamster cheek pouch. The test substances were applied twice daily to right pouches of hamsters for 14 consecutive days. Animals were administered with A mouthwash, Listerine, saline and control solution, respectively. In order to evaluate the irritant potential in mucosa of hamster cheek pouch, we observed clinical signs, mortality, body weight changes and gross and histopathological findings for 14 days. In all groups, there were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights. In addition, there were no differences between saline and A mouthwash treated group in gross and histopathological findings. Therefore, these results suggest that there was no irritant potential of A mouthwash in hamster cheek pouch.
