  • This study aims to reveal what is necessary for pre-service science teachers to make good use of online formative assessment in the context of online classes. For 22 pre-service physics teachers, first, the preliminary perception of online classes, online formative assessment, and formative assessment was investigated; second, the practice process of online formative assessment was examined. Then the differences between perception and practice were compared and analyzed. Data were collected in preliminary surveys, lesson plans, online formative assessment items, and interview data. As a result of the study, an interaction was mentioned as the difficulty of online classes in the preliminary perception, and pre-service teachers mentioned the use of technology, feedback, and adjustment as advantages of online formative assessment. In most cases of practice, the automated feedback was used using the platform's technology, but it did not lead to adjustment and interaction. In addition, the use of items in online formative assessment was not suitable for formative functions. The reason why the interaction using formative feedback did not occur seems to be because the understanding of formative assessment was insufficient. Pre-service teachers need to be prepared for the 'formative' function through the feedback of online formative assessment so that can lead to interaction in online classes. The shift to online classes is creating difficulties, especially in interaction. It is necessary to prepare and educate pre-service teachers on fundamental aspects that can overcome these difficulties.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the cultural contents represented in elementary school English textbooks for grades 3 and 4 based on the 2015 revised Korean national curriculum. An analysis of cultural contents was conducted on the basis of Morgan(2001)'s five category criteria. Among the five aspects of culture, 'practices' relevant to daily life were presented most frequently in the textbooks followed by 'products'. English textbooks showed a relatively low frequency in 'perspectives' and 'communities' areas of culture. 'Persons' did not appear at all in all eight textbooks. It revealed that there was a serious imbalance in the representation of textbook about cultural contents. In conclusion, there should be balanced cultural contents for the students to have a balanced cultural awareness and to accept cultural diversity and differences. In addition, textbooks should include more various cultural materials and activities for the students to develop four key competencies suggested on the 2015 revised Korean national curriculum.

  • One of the core policies recently implemented by the Korean government is the introduction of a creative economy, a concept that integrates ICT with the existing economic structure in order to create new growth factors and jobs. In June of 2013, the National Assembly passed a bill for the institutional practice of a creative economy. The concept of a creative economy is to integrate industries centered on ICT in order to form a new-concept industry paradigm that creates new values and services that exceed past industrial categories. In other words, smart convergence, which integrates ICT with various industries, is evaluated as a core factor for boosting the creative economy. Thus, based on the definition of 'smart convergence', this study predicted the economic effects and sociocultural changes that will ensue due to the future era of smart convergence. Also, this study proposes policies for enhancing the creative economy in various ways. More specifically, in-depth interviews with convergence industry experts were carried out and quantitative analyses were performed employing a Solow Model. Furthermore, as a means to revitalize the creative economy, this study underscores the significance of the preemptive institutionalization of legislations and suggests several policy proposals regarding smart convergence rooted in market supply and the demand chain, smart convergence through selective focus, and smart work. This study is differentiated from previous studies that have only focused in establishing theories in that it offers quantitative research with a consideration of the feasibility of proposed policies. The leading experience of Korea regarding smart convergence can provide important lessons to other countries that hope to promote a creative economy as a means to create new growth factors and jobs.

  • In this study, we reviewed and analyzed the influencing factors of technology transfer performance in the previous studies (52 domestic journals and theses) and classified the various influencing factors into 6 top factors and 13 sub-factors based on the theoretical background. The study results of previous articles were analyzed by meta-analysis method so as to calculate the overall average effect size of influencing factors of technology transfer performance. As the result, the overall effect size (ESr) calculated through meta-analysis applying random effect model is .269, which corresponds to the medium effect size. By comparing effect sizes of influencing factors, the four(4) key influencing factors were also identified, which are 'number of researchers', 'dedicated organization', 'possess technology', and 'external cooperation'. The technology transfer performance are divided into three types: the number of technology transfers, technology transfer income, and other technology transfer performances. The major influencing factors of each type are derived through meta-analysis at the sub-category level. As moderator variables, the paper type and the data type were analyzed but no significant results were obtained. Since this research is limited to the technology transfer, it is necessary to carry out the study related to the influencing factors on the technology commercialization as following study.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive the implications of operating the Media and Information Literacy (MIL) curriculum in Korea through analysis of MIL curriculum and guidance in the Philippines. The Philippine Ministry of Education runs the MIL as a core subject that high school students in grades 2-3 had to complete. MIL in the Philippines is a tool curriculum that integrates information, media, and digital literacy. In the MIL curriculum, a total of 17 units are designed to be operated for a total of 80 hours, 20 weeks in a semester. And it presents two content criteria, two achievement criteria and 58 learning competencies. The implications drawn from the research results are as follows. First, the chapter presented in the MIL curriculum can be composed only of the knowledge of a higher category or core concept of subject content. Second, it is necessary to present the concept of the term used in the MIL curriculum and specific examples according to the concept. Third, it is necessary to specify the contents necessary for practice in the MIL textbook and to strengthen the competence for the function. MIL, proposed by UNESCO and designated and operated as a subject in the Philippines, needs to be designated as a subject in Korea and operated as a curriculum.

  • Among various types of public research institutes (PRI), the government-funded research institutes (GRIs) are having a difficult time in enhancing the efficiency of technology transfer. This study specifically analyzed 1,163 projects conducted by GRIs from 2009~2013 to ascertain the determinants that affect technology transfer process. Along with conducting qualitative analysis on relevant researches, we examined the hypotheses by relying on quantitative analysis, using national R&D data from National Science and Technology Information Service (NTIS). As a result of the analysis, we found that whether or not the project generated applied patent, the royalty varied. Also, depending on different R&D development stage, a number of researchers and the amount of R&D funding, the royalty varied. Finally, we derived that out of all the independent variables, a number of applied patents, a number of researchers and the amount of R&D funds can affect the royalty generated from technology transfer. Based on such results we suggest several policy implications.
