  • In this paper, key features of an excavated submarine article and general process of its conservation will be introduced. First, the conservation process of removing salt from an excavated submarine article was done by desalting stage, and the X-Ray photographing was done for its inner and outer damage detection. The process of making a restoration mold with the beeswax for the broken part, making restoration material with fillers and grinded broken pieces of earthen ware have similar color and quality, and color matching distinguishable for the naked eye after the whole conservation process have been finished.

  • This paper focused on desalination method for the underwater archaeological ceramics. The desalination method applied in this study takes additional conditions such as the amount of desalting water, temperature, and agitation conditions and compares the effects of desalt process. The result of efficiency rate appears that the twenty-times of the object weight of desalting water is more effective than that of ten-times one, but shows less economic compared to the cost. In addition, the research shows that the efficiency rate has been improved around 20 to 30 %, yet such improvement is not taken into account as an effective result considering the risk of damage from the physical and chemical impact and the consumption of energy in applying additional method.

  • As a result of investigating research papers concerning the metal bound rim decoration on four pieces of 'Bowl, white porcelain with impressed floral design and sliver bound rim' and one piece of 'Bowl, white porcelain with sliver bound rim' from among the Jingdezhen white porcelain, which are Sinan remains that are kept in a National museum of Korea. It was found that the material of the bound rim was not silver but tin, and lacquer was used as glue. Based on such a scientific analysis, this study conducted a reproduction test of the manufacturing technique and the bonding method of the metal bound rim attached to the upper tip of the china ware. As a way of reproducing the bound rim, the study was able to discover the best method in terms of the avoidance of loss of materials and the workability out of various cutting methods for tin plates, and it also discovered that the use of lacquer in mixture with soil showed a better workability than the use only of a lacquer ingredient in a test of the bonding method of a metal bound rim using lacquer. Also, in the test of a drying method, a bonding method after drying within a short time at a relatively high temperature was found to be more effective than the drying method after humidifying at a normal temperature, which is used in traditional lacquer ware preservation treatment.
