Two types of modified celluloses which contain trinitrophenyl groups as chromophore were synthesized from carboxymethyl cellulose Whatman CM 70 and CM 32. Diaminoethyl groups were added to the CM 70 and CM 32 to make DAE-CM celluloses and then the DAE-CM groups were substituted by 2,4,6-trinitrophenyl groups to produce TNP-celluloses. Average particle size of the TNP-cellulose from CM 32 was $44.6{\pm}9.6{\mu}m$ in diameter and $127.9{\pm}22.5{\mu}m$ in length, which was much smaller than those from CM 70, however its TNP-moiety per gram determined by using the molar extinction coefficient $1.33{\times}10^4$ of ${\varepsilon}$-TNP-lysine at 345 nm, was 0.68 millimoles, which was 5.6-fold greater than those from CM 70. The absorption spectrum of TNP-oligosaccharides which were the soluble products of TNP-celluloses by a cellulase preparation Onozuka R-10, showed a maximal peak at 344 nm. Increases in the absorbance during hydrolysis were linear with the enzyme concentration, and the differences of slope values between two types of TNP-celluloses that the more semsitive assay could be achieved by using those from CM 32 as substrate at the low range of the enzyme concentration.
A spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of Fe(III) in aqueous solution with 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-benzenedisulfonic acid(Tiron) as a fluorimetric reporter was developed. Tiron, which is very soluble in water,is a good fluorimetric reagent. However, when Tiron was complexed with Fe(III), the fluorescent intensity was decreased proportionally with the concentration of Fe(III) by a quenching effect. The excitation and fluorescene wavelength of Tiron showing the quenching effect by Fe(III) at pH 4.5 were 312 nm and 341 nm, respectively. The highest sensitivities were shown at Tiron concentration of $1.0{\times}10^{-2}M$. To enhance the quenching effect, the Fe(III)-Tiron complex solution was heated to 80$^{\circ}C$ for 90 minutes. As for Fe(III), the most interfering ion was Cu(II). The interference effects could be mostly eliminated by pH adjustment or by adding EDTA. The concentration ranges showing the linear response to Fe(III) was from $5.0{\times}10^{-7}M\;to\;6.0{\times}10^{-5}M$ With this proposed method, the detection limits of Fe(III) was $2.8{\times}10^{-6}M$. Recovery of Fe(lII) in a synthetic sample was almost quantitative. Based on experimental results, it is proposed that the above technique can be applied to the practical determination of Fe(III).
Glucose and protein in urine are among the important substances for urine analysis and have generally been measured based on a reagent strip test. In this study, these two substances were measured using mid-infrared absorption spectroscopy. Samples were prepared from a commercial synthetic urine product. Glucose and albumin were added as well as red blood cells, which are expected to create the most spectroscopic interference of any substance. Concentrations of these substances were varied independently. Optimal wavelength regions were determined from a partial least squares regression analysis (glucose 980 - 1150/cm, albumin 1400 - 1570/cm). Interference by other substances increased the differences between measured and predicted values. Albumin measurement in particular weres heavily influenced by the presence of glucose and red blood cells. Depending on the inference by other substances, measurement errors were 29.85${\sim}$45.19 mg/dl for a glucose level between 0 and 1000 mg/dl and 14.0${\sim}$93.11 mg/dl for an albumin level of 0 ${\sim}$ 500 mg/dl. Our study proposes an alternative to the chemical test-strip analysis, which shows only discrete concentration levels.
Conductive polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers in UV-curable resin were used for a transparent conductive film. The emeraldine-salt PANI (ES-PANI) nanofibers were prepared by chemical oxidation polymerization of aniline, which could be changed into emeraldine-base PANI by dedoping. EB-PANI nanofibers as a precursor for conductive fillers were thereby transformed into re-dpoed PANI (rES-PANI) by dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid in the UV-curable resin solution. rES-PANI nanofibers have high conductivity and long-term stability in the solution without a defect of nanostructure. The resulting conductive resin solution was proved to be highly stable where no precipitation of rES-PANI fillers was observed over a period of 3 months. The transparent film was spin-casted on a poly(methyl methacrylate) sheet of thickness ca. $5{\mu}m$. A surface resistance of $6.5{\times}10^8{\Omega}/sq$ and transmittance at 550 nm of 91.1% were obtained for the film prepared with a concentration of 1.4 wt% rES-PANI nanofibers in the solution. This transformation process of rES-PANI from ES-PANI by dedoping-redoping can be an alternative method for the preparation of an antistatic protection film with controllable surface resistance and optical transparencies with the PANI concentration in UV-curable solution.
Blue-emitting $Sr_{10}$($PO$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ and $_{(Sr,Mg) }$ 10/($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles for application of long-wavelength UV LED were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The luminescence characteristics under long- wave-length ultraviolet of the $Sr_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ and (Sr,Mg)$_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$^Eu{2+}$ phosphor particles prepared by the spray pyrolysis were compared with that of the commercial product. The PL intensity of the $Sr_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ particles prepared by the spray pyrolysis was lower than that of the commercial $Sr_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ particles because prepared $Sr_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles had porous structure and hollow morphology. However, the PL intensity of the (Sr,Mg)$_{10}$($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:$Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles prepared by the spray pyrolysis was 8% higher than that of the commercial one. The high brightness of $(Sr,Mg)_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$$Cl_2$:Eu$^{2+}$ phosphor particles prepared by spray pyrolysis is due to the dense structure and high crystallinity of particles. The TEX>$(Sr,Mg)<_{10}$ ($PO_4$)$_{6}$ /$Cl_2$:$Eu^{ 2+}$ phosphor particles had main emission peak t 448 nm under long- wavelength ultraviolet.
In this study to produce large-scale scopolamine we were examined in the tumor calli of Datura metel L. induced by Agrobacterium tumefaciens $Ery{101}$. The growth and scopolamine contents of tumor calli were higher under light condition than in dark. The optimum condition of growth and scopolamine production were fluence rate of 16 $\mu$mol $m^{-2}s^{-1}$, spectra of red light region and 16 hour light periods on 50 mL SH liquid medium in 4 weeks culture. To increase of the scopolamine contents in tumor calli, the optimum concentration of nitrogen source were 1.8 mM NH$_4$+ and 40 mM NO$_3$. The optimum elicitor concentration for production of scopolamine were 10 mg/L chitosan and 15 mg/L yeast extract. The effect of precursors were good at the concentration of 0.2 mM tropine and 0.3 mM tropic acid, respectively. In order to increase of growth and scopolamine contents. we induced mutant from Datura metel L. tumor callus. Mutants of tumor calli were obtained by 3 Krad, 4 Krad and 6 Krad of ${60}^Cor-ray$. Among them, 3 Krad tumor callus was excellent on the growth and teratoma induction. The 4 Krad tumor callus was negligible for both growth and teratoma induction. But the 6 Krad tumor callus was the best in growth and teratoma induction. The formation of the mutant calli can be enhanced through hormonal combination of 1 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 0.5 mg/L benzyladenine. We carry out selection mutant tumor calli for high content tropane alkaloid and suspension cultures for scopolamine production.
In an effort to reduce artifically the residual pesticides on crop and soil by accelerated photolysis, some 40 among the naturally occurring and synthetic coumpound were screened for photosensitization and/or photocatalysis and six promising chemicals were selected. The fungicides and the four selected photosensitizers and/or photocatalyst (PS) were applied to each crop. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. The wavelengths of maximum absortion (${\lambda}$max) and the molar absorptivites (${\varepsilon}$max) of procymidone, vinclozolin, and carbendazim in acentone were all 209 nm and 853,854,and 8740 respectively. 2. Of the 40 naturally-occuring and synthetic compounds screened, six promising ones were selected and designated as PS-1 (aromatic ketone),PS-2(aromatic amine)PS-3(quinone) ,PS-4 (inorganic compound),PS-5(organic acid salt) and PS-6(semiconductor photocatalyst). 3. In the accelerated photolysis of pesticide in soil by applying PS ,procymidone was decoposed rapidly by virtue of PS-2,being 59% of the control 3 days after application. 4. The vinclozolin residue in soil was reduced to 71% and 21% of the control 1 and 15 days, respectively, after PS-2 application. 5. The photolysis of carbendazim in soil was not accelerated by any of the PS tested. 6. The pesticide residues on the crop were prominently reduced by PS application. The procymidone residue on tomato was reduced to 47% of the control 15 days after PS-1 application and that on red pepper reduced to 57% 15 days after PS-2 application. 7. Vincrozolin residus remaining on tomato 1 and 15 days after PS-2 application were 38% and 56% of the control whereas those on the red pepper were 82% and 64%,respectively. 8. PS-2 was the most effective for the accelerated photolysis of carbendazim residues remaining on tomato, whereas on red pepper, the four of PS tested were all effective, but did not make much difference between them. This might be due to the shielding of sunlight by the leaves of red pepper not to exert the photosensitizing effect of PS-2 to the full.

Video camera can be a useful tool to capture images for use in colorimeter. However the RGB signals generated by different video camera are not equal for the same scene. The video camera for use in colorimeter is characterized based on the CIE standard colorimetric observer. One method of deriving a colorimetric characterization matrix between camera RGB output signals and CIE XYZ tristimulus values is least squares polynomial modeling. However it needs tedious experiments to obtain camera transfer matrix under various white balance point for the same camera. In this paper, a new method to obtain camera transfer matrix under different white balance by using 3${\times}$3 camera transfer matrix under a certain white balance point is proposed. According to the proposed method camera transfer matrix under any other white balance could be obtained by using colorimetric coordinates of phosphor derived from 3${\times}$3 linear transfer matrix under the certain white balance point. In experimental results, it is demonstrated that proposed method allow 3${\times}$3 linear transfer matrix under any other white balance having a reasonable degree of accuracy compared with the transfer matrix obtained by experiments.
Among the photoactive semiconductors such as $TiO_2,\;ZnO,\;Fe_2O_3,\;WO_3,\;and\;CdSe,\;TiO_2$ is the most widely used as photocatalyst in different media, because of its lack of toxicity and stability. In this study, the effects of titanium dioxide were investigated to obtain the information of physiological change in rice plant. Light-adapted Chlorophyll flourescence index decreased and relative electron transport rate of rice leaves was activated by titanium dioxide under $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ PAR (Photosynthetic active radiation). Relative electron transport rate of rice leaf treated with titanium dioxide 10 ppm was high in order of $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR,\;2,200\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR,\;450\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR$ and titanium dioxide 10 ppm (45.1%), control (32.4%), diuron 10 ppm (15.3%) under $2,400\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}\;PAR$. Titanium dioxide increased photosynthesis of the rice leaf under $13.6\;KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ UV-B only. With titanium dioxide 20 ppm, reduced UV-B ($0.15\;KJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$) intensity changed the induction of proteins and twenty-five proteins were identified. Among them, seventy proteins were up-regulated, four proteins were down-regulated and four proteins were newly synthesized. Function of these proteins was related to photosynthesis (52%), carbohydrate metabolism (4%), stress/defense (8%), secondary metabolism (4%), energy/electron transport (4%), and miscellaneous (28%).
This study was initiated to investigate the skin whitening activities of methanol extracts from fruiting bodies of I. obliquus. The total polyphenols and flavonoids contents of I. obliquus methanol extracts were 31.85 mg/g and 28.33 mg/g, respectively. The methanol extract of the mushroom treated on B16/F10 melanoma and NIH3T3 cell lines did not show cytotoxic activity. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging activity and chelating activity on ferrous ions of I. obliquus methanol extract were lower than those of positive control, tocopherol and BHT. The tyrosinase and L-DOPA inhibitory activities of the extract were lower than those of positive control, kojic acid and ascorbic acid. The tyrosinase and melanin synthesis inhibitory activities of the melanoma cells treated with the extract were comparable with positive control, arbutin. The experimental results suggested that methanol extract of I. obliquus contained inhibitory activities of tyrosinase and melanin synthesis in the B16/F10 melanoma cells by dose dependent manner. High ultra-violet absorption spectra in the range of 280-350 nm showed that I. obliquus extract could protect skin from UV radiation damage. Therefore, fruiting bodies of I. obliquus can be used for developing skin whitening, anti-UV and skin care agents.
