Modified Rational Choice Model for the Effects of Education on Election Participation in Korea (교육수준이 선거기권에 미치는 영향: 다운스의 합리적 선택론을 중심으로)

  • While people with higher education are more likely to vote in most western societies, they are less likely to vote in Korea. To explain this puzzle, this paper introduces new concept of "distrust of the public promise. " With this new concept, this paper contends that in Korea where public promises are so easily broken, those with higher education are more skeptical of the politicians. Based on the various post-election surveys, this paper shows that "distrust of the public promise" leads the more educated people to abstain in the election. By adding rational factors of the voters to the conventional model, this paper proposed a more comprehensive model to explain non-voters in Korea. This paper explains increasing Korean non-voters in terms of rational choice perspective. choice perspective.

  • 한국에 있어서 급속한 경제성장과 사업구조의 변화로 인하여 차량과 교통량이 급속히 증가하였다. 따라서 교통량은 기존 시설물의 용량을 초과하게 되었다. 증가된 교통량과 부족한 교통시설로 인하여 사회.경제전반에 걸쳐서 제 교통문제가 발생하게 되었고, 이러한 교통문제를 해결하기 위해서 과학적인 교통수요예측기법이 요구되었다. 본 논문에서는 과거 20여년간의 교통부문의 연구활동 중 특히, 교통수요예측에 관한 연구에 대해서 사례를 중심으로 살펴 보고자 한다. 논문의 주요내용으로는 아래와 같다. 1) 한국의 교통상황을 개략적으로 설명하고, 한국에서 합리적인 교통 수요예측기법이 필요하게된 배경을 설명 2) 교통수요예측에 필요한 사회.경제변수에 관한 자료를 소개하고, 합리적인 수요예측을 위하여 제 변수의 중요성을 설명 3) 한국에서 과거에 적용한 교통수요예측 모형의 구조와 장.단점을 소개 4) 현재 한국에서 적용하고있는 교통수요예측에 관한 모형의 구호와 적용절차를 본 단계의 과정으로 설명함으로써 그 동안 한국에서의 연구, 적용되어온 교통수요예측 모형에 관한 소개와 적용사례를 제시하고자 한다.

The effects of perceived father's rearing attitude on leisure satisfaction and leisure constraint in middle school students: the mediating effects of self-efficacy (중학생이 지각한 아버지의 애정-합리적 설명형 양육태도가 여가만족 및 여가제약에 미치는 영향 : 자기효능감의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of self-efficacy on the relationship between perceived father's rearing attitude and leisure satisfaction/leisure constraint in junior high school students. A survey was conducted using a convenient sample drawn from 448 students from eleven junior high school in Seoul area. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program. The results showed that students who perceived their father's rearing attitude as affection-rational explanation performed more of out-door leisure activity with their family. Perceived father's rearing attitude and self-efficacy was positively related with leisure satisfaction but negatively related with leisure constraint. In addition, self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between perceived father's rearing attitude and leisure satisfaction/leisure constraint. These results suggest the leisure activity could be increased by father's rearing attitude through improving self-efficacy. Therefore, to improve the leisure activity through increase of leisure satisfaction and decrease of leisure constraint, father should raise their children in love and help to grow their self-efficacy.

뉴컴의 역설과 합리적 선택

  • 노직은 뉴컴의 문제를 뉴컴이 묘사한 상황에서 합리적인 행위를 선택함에 있어 지배의 원리와 기대 효용 극대화의 원리의 적용의 결과가 충돌한다는 것으로 설명하고 있다. 슐레징거와 이병욱은 지배의 원리에 의한 선택이 합당함을 논증하고 있다. 그들의 논증은 원래의 뉴컴 상황과 변형된 뉴컴 상황의 유비에 근거하고 있다. 이 글에서는 그러한 유비가 성립하지 않거나 성립할 경우 뉴컴 문제를 해결하는 데 흡족하지 않음을 보이려 하고 있다. 그리고 뉴컴 상황에서 지배의 원리를 사용해야 하는 독자적인 이유를 제시하고 있다.

Effects of the Parenting Attitude on Children's Thinking Ability (유아의 사고능력에 대한 부모 양육태도의 영향)

  • This Study focused on understanding the relationship between the child ren's thinking ability which is based on the genius and the parenting attitude according to their level of age. There were 401subjects including mothers and their children who lived in Seoul city ages from four to six. The Raven CPM testing method for children and the parenting attitude test were used as research tools. Subcategories of the parenting attitude test consisted of the supportive expression, the rational explanation, the achievement press, high involvement, punishment, superintendence, high expectation, and inconsequence. Results showed that by age four children's thinking abilities were affected by the rational explanation, the achievement press, punishment, and superintendence. At age five, the supportive expression and superintendence were important factors to the thinking ability. By age six children were affected by the supportive expression, the rational explanation, punishment and high expectation. It was also discussed the positive or negative effects of the parenting attitude sub-scales to the development of the thinking ability. These results showed the parenting attitudes need to be changed according to the child's age for getting more resonable results to their children's thinking ability.

An Analysis of Effectiveness of Economic Sanctions and Inducements and Implications for Policies towards North Korea Based on Theoretical Applications from Prospect Theory (경제제재와 경제지원의 효과 분석 및 대북정책에 대한 시사점: 전망이론적 논의)

  • Economic sanctions and inducements are types of 'policy instruments' based on 'economic tools' to influence other international actors. Ongoing debates on sanctions and inducements have exposed drawbacks for relying on individual case studies. There are some studies in the literature that attempt theoretical analysis of sanctions and inducements, but they are mostly based on rational choice theory. In reality, however, there exist so many cases that cannot be explained by rational choice theory. These are called anomalies or exceptions. The literature introduces specific variables to interpret these anomalies and thus sacrifice the universality of the theory. From this point of view, prospect theory would present an effective tool to analyze economic sanctions and inducements. It is a behavioral economic theory that tries to model a decisions making process in reality. The theory says that people make decisions based on subjective value of losses and gains from an individual reference point, and that people evaluate these losses and gains using heuristics. Thus prospect theory could offer a different frame which has greater explanatory range without adding new variables. As a result of this study, target's losses of 'back down' towards economic sanctions loom larger when the reference point level increases, therefore, the effectiveness of sanctions decreases. However, target's losses of 'stand firm' towards economic inducements loom larger under the same condition of reference point, therefore, the effectiveness of inducements increases. The findings of the paper suggest meaningful implications to the economic policy towards North Korea.

An Effect of the Jury Instruction Procedure on The Level of the Threshold for the Decision to Convict (유죄판단 역치에 대한 배심설시 절차의 효과)

  • The jury instruction consists of a set of legal rules and provides a guide for jurors to interpret evidence and the legal standard of a proof beyond reasonable doubt. Jury instructions are usually given after the closing arguments (at the end of the trial). But some research has shown that jury instruction provided before the evidence may have an impact on verdict. The present study was to determine the cognitive process caused by early instruction: (1) Early instruction may influence the verdict by upwardly adjusting the threshold for the decision to convict; (2) early instruction may influence the verdict through evaluations of the probative values of evidence; (3) Or both. 187 people older than 20 years of age participated in the on-line survey. With a trial scenario, one independent variable, Instruction Procedure, was manipulated in three levels: before-and-after the evidence procedure, after-only evidence procedure, and no-instruction procedure. The instruction procedure conditions did not show any difference in the evaluation of the probative values of evidence. On the other hand, before-and-after condition showed the lowest rate of guilty verdict and the highest probability of guilt for the defendant in the scenario. This latter result clearly suggested that the instruction procedure affects the decision threshold. Specifically, instruction provided twice, once before and again after the evidence, may upwardly shift the threshold for the decision to convict.
