Objective: This study was performed to report the changes in symptoms and radiological consequences of a patient diagnosed with spinal neurofibroma and complaining of lower back pain. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with a spinal neurofibroma after MRI examination and was treated with traditional Korean medicine, including traditional Korean medication and acupuncture. We measured the change in symptom severity using a numerical rating scale (NRS) and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). We also used the EQ-5D (EuroQoL-5D) scale to assess the patient's quality of life. In addition, we examined the change in the size of the cyst by MRI twice after discharge: at about 3 months after discharge and at about 8 months after discharge. Results: After about 6 weeks of treatment, most pathological symptoms had decreased. The patient showed a decline in NRS and ODI scores and showed an increase in quality of life. The two MRI examinations after the discharge revealed a decrease in the size of the cyst. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medicine can be a solution for patients with spinal neurofibroma causing neurological pain.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of spinal mobilization with leg movement (SMWLM) using Korean Medicine treatment on acute lower limb muscle weakness through four case studies. Methods SMWLM, with other Korean Medicine treatments, was performed on four patients who underwent treatment at OOOO Korean Medicine Hospital from August 2017 to July 2018. Additionally, results of the Numerical Rate Scale(NRS), EuroQol-FiveDimensions(EQ-5D),Oswestry lowback pain disability questionnaire(ODI), Straight Leg Raise(SLR) test, and Manual Muscle Test(MMT) were evaluated. Results There was a significant increase in NRS, ODI, and EQ-5D scales with im-rovements of SLR angle and MMT figures to a normal range. Conclusions This study suggested that Korean Medicine treatment combined with SMWLM may affect treating acute lower limb muscle weakness. Further clinical studies are needed to establish a definite conclusion.

The study aimed to understand the knee condition of patients with knee joint pain who visited an Korean Medicine hospital by performing musculoskeletal ultrasound. From July 1, 2021 to October 31, 2021, information on the gender, age, diagnosis, and ultrasound findings of knee joint pain patients were retrospectively collected. To examine the condition of the knee joint, images were taken in a total of three postures. All images were analyzed by an examiner. 7 cases of osteoarthritis, 1 case of medial collateral ligament rupture, and 1 case of quadriceps tendon calcification were collected. It was able to check the condition of articular cartilage, lipoma arborescens, and the formation of osteophytes through musculoskeletal ultrasound. The implementation of musculoskeletal ultrasound can enable Korean medicine doctors to give more active treatment for patients through accurate and scientific diagnosis. Based on more evidence, it is thought that the use of medical devices by Korean medicine doctors will need to be made in the future.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of integrative Korean medicine treatment for patients who were diagnosed as acute fracture on pelvis. The patients were treated by Korean medicine as conservative management including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medication and cupping for hospitalization periods. Numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D), Oswestry disability index (ODI), patient global impression of change (PGIC), self-walking distance and the changes of symptoms were measured to assess patients' improvement. NRS, ODI scores and EQ-5D definitely improved on 4 patients of 5 cases. NRS decreased from 6~7 to 3~5, ODI scores decreased from 62~75.11 to 40~52 and EQ-5D increased from 0.013~0.331 to 0.47~0.773. PGIC and self-walking distance were also enhanced after treatments. In conclusion, this study suggests that integrative Korean medicine could be effective treatment for acute pelvic fracture.

This study aims to evaluate the effect of various Korean medicine treatment techniques on knee pain with medial plica syndrome. We treated three knee pain patients with medial plica syndrome using acupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and cupping during their hospitalization. EuroQol-five dimensions (EQ-5D), Western Ontario and Mcmaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), numerical rating scale (NRS) and the changes of symptoms were used for patient assessment. There were notable decreases in WOMAC and NRS and a notable increase in EQ-5D of case 1 and 3. There was also an improvement in the symptoms experienced by the patients. Our study is the first case report to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment compared to those of the pre-existing surgical and conservative treatments for knee pain patients with medial plica syndrome.

A patient with right upper limb weakness was diagnosed with idiopathic polyneuropathy and received a series of Korean Medicine including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, bee venom acupuncture, and administration of herbal medicine BacJung-hwan for 17 days of hospitalization period. The progression of the weakness was measured by Hand grip tester, neuralgia and numbness were measured by the NRS(Numerical Rating Scale) scores. After treatment, the right grip strength improved from 12kg to 35kg and the right upper limb neuralgia of the NRS5 was improved to NRS2. The present case study suggests that the potential effects of Korean Medicine treatment for idiopathic polyneuropathy.

Objectives: This study reports on the efficacy of Korean medicine treatments for peripheral facial nerve palsy and sleep disorders that occur after microvascular decompression. Methods: A 57-year-old female patient with right facial palsy was treated with herbal medicines and acupuncture for 36 days. The treatment effect was evaluated using the House Brackmann Grading System (HBGS), Yanagihara's Unweighed Grading System (Yanagihara's score), and the Korean Modified Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (KMLSEQ). Results: Following treatment, the patient showed a decrease in HBGS and an improvement in Yanagihara's score and KMLSEQ score. Conclusions: Korean medicine treatments appeared to be effective in reducing facial nerve palsy. Further clinical research on patients with facial nerve palsy is needed.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate a case of a patient with spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) type 2 whose condition improved following treatment with Korean medicine. Methods: A 25-year-old man, diagnosed with SCA type 2, was treated with herbal medicine (Yukmijiwhang-tang-gami), acupuncture, and physical treatment. The therapeutic effect was evaluated using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and gait status. Results: Following treatment, the BBS score increased, and gait ataxia improved. Conclusions: This case study suggests that Korean medicine could be effective for relieving symptoms of SCA type 2.

Objectives: This study reports the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy concurrent with Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy. Case presentation: A 58-year-old male was admitted for hand numbness and foot pain after his sixth chemotherapy. He was treated with acupuncture and moxibustion for 18 days. Symptoms were evaluated with a numeric rating scale (NRS). After 18 days of treatment, his foot pain improved from NRS 4 to NRS 2. His hand numbness disappeared. Conclusion: This study suggests that acupuncture and moxibustion can be used for managing diabetic peripheral neuropathy concurrent with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.

A cutaneous adverse drug reaction (CADR) refers to an unexpected skin and mucosal reaction caused by drug administration. In the present case, a 65-year-old male presented with generalized itching and a maculopapular rash after taking Western medication, including anticonvulsants and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). He was treated with Gamiseungmagalgeun-tang, a traditional Korean herbal medicine. After treatment, the patient's symptoms improved, without recurrence. Based on this experience, traditional Korean herbal medicine, including Gamiseungmagalgeun-tang, may be beneficial for improving symptoms of CADRs.
