  • A slant correction method for handwritten Korean strings based on analysis of stroke distribution, which effectively reflects structural properties of Korean characters, is presented in this paper. The method aims to deal with typical problems which have been frequently observed in slant correction of handwritten Korean strings with conventional approaches developed for English/European languages. Extracted strokes from a line of text image are classified into two clusters by applying the K-means clustering. Gaussian modeling is applied to each of the clusters and the slant angle is estimated from the model which represents the vertical strokes. Experimental results support the effectiveness of the proposed method. For the performance comparison 1,300 handwritten address string images were used, and the results show that the proposed method has more superior performance than other conventional approaches.

  • This paper proposes the new method which is adopted in extracting character features and recognizing characters using fractal dimension of the Chaos theory which highly recolonizes a minute difference with strange attractor created from Henon system. This paper implements a high precision character recognition system. firstly, it gets features of mesh, projection and cross distance feature from character images. And their feature is converted into data of time series. Then using modified Henon system suggested in this paper, each characters attractor about standard Korean Character, KSC 5601 is reconstructed. Secondly, in order to analyze the Chaotic degree of each characters attractor, it gets last features of character image after calculating box-counting Dimension, Natural Measure, Information Bit, Information Dimension which are meant fractal dimension. An experimental result shows 97.49% character classification rates for 2350 Korean characters using proposed method in this paper.

  • The effect of the code conversion process of Korean script (Hangul), also known as words for numbers, was investigated using event-related potentials (ERPs) during mental arithmetic operations. Study subjects were asked to determine whether the arithmetic results of a given target stimuli were correctly matched. Visual inspection and statistics of mean ERPs showed stimulus type-dependent processing rather than task-dependent processing. Results of addition and multiplication tasks revealed that the overall temporal profiles of the Arabic numerals were similar to the Hangul words for numbers. The only exception to this observation was a delayed positive-slope peak occurring around 300 ms, which was likely related to the encoding process of Hangul words for numbers to Arabic-digits, defined as a 'transcoding-related potential.' Source analysis confirmed that the topography of different waveforms for the two conditions was attributed to a single dipole located in the left temporo-parietal area; this area is known to be involved in Hangul words for number processing. These results suggest that the initial processing for encoding words for numbers was followed by arithmetic operations without direct access of internal number representation. • avant garde poet Yi Sang wrote his poetry with architectural and artistic inspirations. his artistic creativity was exploded by typographic expression. he lirerated the !iterated word into visible language also. he played with his-own-created-signs. fighted against the reality, traditions and cliches. his typographic characteristic poetry is an evidence for the lengthening the history of korean modern typography as a pioneer. because his experimental works is the great evident. so we evaluated the worth of it.
