The Study of Tilting Control System Improvement of Korean Tilting Train (한국형 틸팅열차 틸팅제어시스템 성능향상 연구)

  • Tilting trains are now an established feature of railway operations throughout the world. For intercity traffic, tilt provides operators with increasing speeds, and therefore enhanced competitiveness, on existing routes where insufficient traffic or a lack of funds precludes the construction of a dedicated new high-speed railway. Appling the tilting train, we can expect 30% of speed up on existing lines, but the stability of the electric current would be low because of tilting the train. Also, the spark between the catenary and pantagraph cause environmental problems such as noise, radio wave malfunction. Therefore, the tilting on pantagraph for the power suppling device is very essential for stable electric power supply.

  • Safety of railroad is result of reliability which is received from test & evaluation of system. Railroad system is consisted of various sub system such as vehicle, supply of electric power, signal, communication, rail track construction, operation. To secure safety of railroad, evaluation about parts, assembly, sub system, whole system etc.. that compose railroad is essential. In this paper, I wish to describe for results that analyze korean tilting vehicle's derailment coefficient developed by national research achievement. Confirmed that is possible even if speed up, curved line department running speed that estimate korean tilting vehicle's running safety in curved line track of Jungang Line about 20 km/h than present operating speed.

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are lilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper developed tilting train to evaluate train performance of TTX(korean tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 160 km/h on Ho_nam Conventional Rail[1].

  • This paper investigated strength of a bogie frame for Korean tilting train that is being developed in KRRI. In this study, static load tests based on Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) were performed. In order to simulate vertical and lateral components generated by tilting link mechanism, four hydraulic actuators were used. The eight load cases such as vertical, lateral, traction, braking and driving gear loads were applied for evaluation of the strength of bogie frame. The stresses measured at the stress concentration points were assessed using Goodman diagram. From the experimental results, structural safety of the bogie frame could be ensured.

  • In order to speed up basic concept is to enhance high speed, curve limit speed, cross limit speed, acceleration/deceleration speed. It is important to optimal interface fundamental technology of vehicle, rail, electrical power, and signal system. Tilting train has advantage minimizing investment cost of infra railway system for increasing train limit speed in curve. the developed tilting train should be operated to commercial service speed 180Km/h of 200Km/h at KNR upgrade railroad. This paper proposed the basic model of system engineering for developing of TTX, tilting EMU (maximum operation speed : 180km/h) with speed-up of conventional railway system.

  • This paper explains development status of the Korean tilting train. The Korean Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) project has been carried out to develop all the core technologies related to tilting train and infra-technology to provide high speed inter-city service with the speed of 180 km/h as well as maintenance-free technology for conventional railway system. The TTX project is under 5th stage. In this stage, manufacturing and combination test for the main components are being conducted. By the end of next year, assembly of TTX will be completed.

Structural Characteristics of a Hybrid Composite Carbody of Korean Tilting Train by Weight Load (한국형 틸팅열차용 복합재 차체의 하중적재에 따른 구조적 특성고찰)

  • This paper explains manufacturing process, analysis and experimental studies on a hybrid composite carbody of Korean tilting train. The composite carbody with length of 23m was manufactured as a sandwich structure composed of a aluminium honeycomb core and woven fabric carbon/epoxy faces. In order to evaluate deformational behavior of the composite carbody, the static load test under vertical load has been conducted. From the test, the vertical deflection an겨 cross sectional deformation of the carbody were analysed and measured. The maximum deflection along the side sill was 9.25mm in the experiment and 8.28mm in the analysis. The maximum cross sectional deformation was measured 5.42mm at carbody center in lateral direction and 4.06mm at roof center in vertical direction.

  • The critical speed above which the vehicle become unstable should be fundamentally verified in the development of new train. In case of high speed tilting train, which require both higher critical speed and higher curving speed, the critical speed should be more carefully treated because the both requirements are conflicting each other in the conventional train design. This research has been performed to estimate the linear and non-linear critical speed of 200km/h Korean Tilting Train which has been developing. The newly developed self-steering mechanism was attached to the tilting train to secure critical speed under the lower yaw stiffness which was inevitable to secure higher curving performance. The simulation to predict critical speed was done by commercial vehicle dynamic S/W. Full scale roller rig test was carried out for the validation of numerical results and effectiveness of self-steering mechanism.

  • A recent Tilting train development operation for existing line high speed, already developed "Korean Tilting Train eXpress(bellow TTX)" and that doing demonstration of operation. And TTX are going to commercial service in 2012. They are preparing Environmental Declaration of Product(bellow EDP) for offering environmental impact of TTX to customer. EDP calculated environmental impact of target product's whole life cycle(raw material and manufacturing, distribution, use, end of life) more quantity for that improving environmental impact and then certification them, it is using for that estimate some part of existence of specific pollutants, GHGs, energy consumption and recycling ratio. In this study, 1) analyze the process of getting EDP, 2) satisfy common criteria and each criteria(plan) in the Product Category Rules(bellow PCRs) provided KEITI, 3) according to ISO 14044, implementation of LCA. 4) These results be shown Characterized Impact(bellow CI) about each life cycle stage and six impact categories(ARD, GWP, OD, AD, EU, POC).

  • The concern on sustainable development is increased to solve the global warming which is environmental issue over nations. Sustainable development is the concept of minimizing the consumption of resource and environment burden. In transportation, there are some trials of shifting to green transportation mode through low energy consumption and high efficiency. Korea Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) can run higher speed than existing train and save energy through light weight. In this study, Tilting bogie, the core equipment of tilting train, was compared with that of existing train.
