최근 Elsevier사에서 제작하여 현재 베타버전으로 시험 서비스 중에 있는 Scopus는,13,000여종의 학술지에 수록된 2,600만여 건의 논문에 대한 초록을 제공하는 세계에서 가장 규모가 큰 웹 데이터베이스이다. 여기에는 SCI와 SSCI에 등재된 7,000여종의 학술지와 자체적인 학술지 선정기준에 의해 추가한 6,000여종의 학술지에 수록된 논문에 대한 초록을 제공하고 있다. 또한 최근 5년간의 학술지에 수록된 각 논문의 참고문헌을 제공하고 있으며, 이들 참고문헌을 토대로 각 논문에 대한 피인용 회시수와 인용문헌에 대한 정보도 제공하고 있다. 이처럼 최근 등장한 Scopus가 SCI와 SSCI에 수록된 학술지를 망라하고 있을 뿐 아니라 인용정보도 제공하고 있다는 점에서, 현재 전세계적으로 가장 대표적인 인용색인인 SCI, SSCI및 A&HCI의 웹 데이터베이스인 Web of Science와 필적할 것으로 보인다. 그러나 Elsevier사에서는, 엄격한 심사기준에 의해 핵심 학술지만을 유지시키고 있는 Thomson-ISI사와는 달리, 학술지의 망라성에 비중을 두고 최소한의 질적 수준을 갖춘 학술지라면 모두 Scopus에서 별도로 추가한 6,000여종의 학술지에 대해 다각적인 측면에서의 검증이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

The purpose of this study is to lay the groundwork for internationalization of domestic journals in the field of Library and Information Sciences (LIS). This study analyzed the characteristics and trends of 7,302 papers from 38 SSCI journals and 768 papers from 4 domestic journals in LIS. Results show the publication and citation counts of domestic journals to be more evenly distributed than those of international journals, which suggests the presence of core international journals. In addition, citation rates and co-authored papers of international journals are shown to be much higher than that of domestic journals, suggesting that international journals publish research papers of higher impact and collaboration.

In this study, we analyze out citing and cited references among researchers, using KSCI (Korean Science Citation Index) database that is developed by KISTI. we generate and analyze that impact factor and immediate index with same method in JCR's. KSCI's impact factor and immediate index compared to JCR's, and with this basis, this study propose the need of development KSCI database and present new service model for evaluate of domestic journals.

In the field of science and technology, influential international journals can easily be found in SCIE. A total number of journals published by societies or institutes in Korea are only 82 of the 8,300 SCIE titles. In this study, in light of the SCI criteria the detailed analysis, of these journals was performed for Korean SCIE journals. The results show that in general domestic journals were not actively cited, had a low level of internationality, and user services through the website was insufficient. Korean SCIE journals should continue to complement these points and elevate its reputation. Candidate journals should concentrate on recruiting more excellent papers, promoting communication with foreign researchers, enhancing domestic and international public relations, and the like. To actively support the domestic publication of excellent journals, long-term and short-term measures should be established and consistently practiced at the national level.

The three key parts of citation index are the Citation Index, the Source Index and the Permuterm Subject Index. To identify the core elements for citation index database system, it analyzed the items that have been cited in references and source items of Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management from vol. 1 no. l(1984) to vol. 15 no. 3(1998). Ten core elements were identified and the description format was specified respectively. The core elements are author, organization that the author is affiliated, title of article, title or journal, volume/numberlpage numbers, year of publication, keyword, language, subject category, statistics of references in article. Also, characteristics of errors in reference citations were analyzed and categorized in the viewpoint of the citation index development of academic journals in Korea.
