The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting quality of health care. Methods: The data were derived from the 2011-2013 Korea health panel survey (beta version 1.0). The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 with descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, and multiple logistic regression analysis. In general characteristics, common factors influencing the quality of health care were age, marital status, education level, and subjective health status. In variables related to health care utilization, unmet healthcare needs, and limitation of dental care utilization were the significant factors affecting quality of health care. The results of this study show that various factors influence quality of health care. These findings can be used to develop strategies to improve health care.
This study analyzes actual conditions of private health insurance empirically by using the decision to join Korea Health Panel data. First, the study investigates how sociodemographic factors influence joining the private health insurance. Next, the relationship between the private health insurance membership and the frequency of medical service utilization is analyzed. The main results of these analyses can be summarized as follows: the socially vulnerable are less likely to join private health insurance relative to the middle and upper classes. The frequency of medical service utilization of private insurance members is relatively higher. This fact contains the possibility that the middle and upper classes are able to receive more medical services through private health insurance membership, while the socially vulnerable have difficulty with obtaining medical services in spite of much need. Therefore, policies are needed which manage the private health insurance more effectively and secure the publicity of health service socially.
Background: In recent years, studies have shown conflicting results regarding the benefits of dietary supplements in reducing healthcare expenditures. This study aimed to address this inconsistency by examining the association between supplement consumption and health expenditures using nationally representative data from the Korea Health Panel Survey (2019-2020). Methods: A 1:1 matched case-control dataset was established using propensity score matching technique based on supplement consumption. Then, total annual healthcare expenditures were compared between the two groups. In addition, a multivariate regression analysis (Proc Surveyreg) was performed to determine the association between the supplement consumption and medical costs. Results: The supplement user group spent about 1.72 million Korean won, while the non-user group spent about 1.43 million Korean won on medical services (p=0.0186). The results of multivariate regression showed that the costs were approximately 26.15% higher in the user group than in the non-user group (p=0.0004). Conclusion: Contrary to the previous studies that have shown the benefits of supplement use in reducing healthcare costs, this study showed that those who consistently consumed supplements spent more on medical services. This can be interpreted in the same context as previous studies suggesting that dietary supplement intake is a healthy behavior for managing one's health. However, we caution against drawing firm conclusions due to data limitations. Further analysis using patient-level epidemiologic data is needed.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the BMI and suicidal ideation using Korean Health Panel data from 2009 to 2013 to identify risk factors for suicide. We conducted a logistic regression analysis using the R statistical package to analyze the relationship between the BMI and the suicidal ideation. The results of this study show that all models with BMI had a statistically significant as a significant variable. It was found that the obese group was more likely to suicide ideation than the other groups. Based on these results, we try to find social implications for suicide prevention and intervention.

An increase in patients' medical expenses for their injury. accident and intoxication is a major challenge to improve the sustain-ability of a national health security system, and increasing medical expenses need be suppressed through improving relevant systems and/or efficiently operating and managing the health insurance. At this juncture, in Korea which has a high rate of injury incidence and mortality, it is necessary to estimate social and/or economic costs for injuries with a focus on their social effects. This research has examined the results of a Korea medical panel investigation conducted in 2008, which largely surveyed of the actual conditions of outpatients' medical use for their injury, accident and/or intoxication and investigated relevant medical expenses, with a view to estimating the directly incurred costs when the patients use medical services and the production loss costs caused by an production decline and others, so that social and/or economic costs for injuries may be ultimately aggregated.

This study tried to find the relationship between household income level and medical expense to household income ratio. For data analysis, it used 2010 and 2011 yearly data beta version of Korea Health Panel, co-managed by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs and National Health Insurance Corporation. To find out how the effect of independent variable changes in 2010 and 2011, the interaction effect between year and independent variable was examined, and separating the factors that showed interaction effect into each year, linear regression analysis was conducted using generalized estimating equations method. As a result of reviewing the factors that were related to medical expense to household income ratio among the people who used medical services, it was found that the higher the household income level, the lower the medical expense. It indicates that policy measures are needed to lessen the medical burden of low-income families.
This study analyzed the size and influence factors of annual average health expenditure according to job type. Using data from the Korea Health Panel (2012), the final analysis was conducted on adults aged 20 years or older, excluding the missing data. Data analysis was done by logistic regression analysis to analyze the factors affecting medical expenditure. As a result of the study, Model 1 showed higher expenditure on medical expenses by skilled workers in agriculture and forestry fishery than those in simple labor. Model 2 was analyzed as having a positive effect on the increase of medical expenditure by the simple worker in the sales of the occupation, statistically significant by sex, marriage, income level and chronic disease. Therefore, it would be necessary to establish social security and health care & welfare policies, in order to grasp the disease with a high frequency rate according to occupation status and activate the physical examination and preventive actions.
This study is designed to demonstrate risk factors of unmet medical care for people with cerebrovascular disease. To do this, statistical analysis was performed by using hierarchical logistic regression analysis with SPSS/WIN24.0 program using Korean Medical Panel data in 2014. In the final model of the hierarchical logistic regression analysis, which is based on Anderson's Model, adjusted for the factors of the predisposing and enabling factors, the explanatory variables affecting the unmet medical development are gender, economic activity, income level, the experience of lying in a sickbed, restriction on activity, subjective health condition, and the number of chronic diseases. Based on the results of this study, the practical and policy implications for the effective management and treatment of cerebrovascular disease should be included in the countermeasures for cerebrovascular disease, a strategy to reduce the unmet medical incidence of cerebrovascular disease, in order to meet the medical needs, the necessity of comprehensive measures considering various dimensions of variables and the influential variables of unmet medical emergence have been suggested for the necessity of making a detailed service manual that can improve accessibility to medical services.
Based on 2009 Korea Health Panel, this study investigated socio-economic and clinical characteristics associated with emergency medical transport use, and analyzed a simple predictive model of emergency medical transport use. Analysis results were summarized as follows: First, emergency medical transports such as 119 ambulance were more used than private cars, taxis, or walk-in. Second, between a user group and a non-user group of emergency medical transports, there were statistically significant differences in age, the level of education, family composition, house type, household income, the relationship with the head of household, insurance types, the presence of handicap, the presence of chronic disease, reasons to emergency medical service use, and treatment after emergency medical service completed. Third, age, household income, the presence of handicap, reasons to emergency medical service use, and treatment after emergency medical service completed were statistically significant predictors associated with emergency medical transports use. To improve emergency medical service system, the characteristics and predictors associated with emergency medical transports are more concerned.
