  • Twenty-six japonica and 19 Tongil type milled rices were grouped based on water uptake rate at $23^{\circ}C$ and interrelationships between starch properties and hydration group were investigated. There were no significant differences in relative crystallinity, transmittance increase rate of 0.1% starch suspension and soluble amylose between japonica and Tongil type rices. The gel volume of starch n 3M KSCN solution of Tonsil type rice starch was significantly higher than that of japonica one. However, no correlations were observed between starch properties and hydration groups.

  • The present study was to investigate the use of a phase change material for hydronic radiant floor heating. Two identical unit test cells sized $1.8m^L{\times}1.8m^W{\times}1.8m^H$ were built and installed with specially designed $1.6cm^T{\times}9cm^W{\times}80cm^H$ aluminum Ondol-panels holding 1.25kg of calcium chloride hexahydrate(CCH) each. It was found that the Ondol-panel with CCH reduced the room temperature fluctuations and maintains the phase changing temperature for considerably long duration, $2{\sim}4$ times of heating hour, over no-CCH one.

  • In order to improve the hydration resistance of lime in the air at room temperature, carbonation and hydration experiments have been conducted. Carbonation of the surface of lime by about 6 wt% was needed to suppress the hydration of lime used in steel-making. The effect of recirculation of rotary kiln exhaust gas for the carbonation of lime on the combustion temperature and NOx concentration was analyzed by thermodynamics. From the thermodynamic calculation results, it was frond that the equi-librium combustion temperature and NOx concentration decreased with increasing volume percentage of exhaust gas.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and implement a sign language dictionary for the deaf to understand information communication terminologies. When the deafs who have difficulties in communication use the internet, they an get help from this dictionary in accessing various types of information and expressing their intension. In order for the deaf to utilize the internet as efficiently as ordinary people, they must understand information communication terminologies first In order to implement the dictionary, we defined the concepts of the deaf and examined their characteristics. In addition, we established principles in designing this dictionary and selected some terminologies. When explaining the terminologies. we tried to use expressions common to the deaf, but sometimes modified them to keep the original meanings of the terms in producing sign language videos. This studies are applied as learning aid to information education for the deaf, and the deaf's understanding of ICT was measured through two tests.

  • Drying shrinkage and hydration heat are important factors on the initiation of the crack in con crete at early age. Therefore, the stress caused by hydration heat and drying shrinkage should be .analyzed to predict whether the crack occurrs or not. And, mechanical properties of early age concrete is also required for the predicting crack formation In this study, non-destructive test method of resonance frequency was used to find the relation between dynamic modulus and mechanical properties of concrete in early age. Test results were compared with existing equations, and a new equation based on test. results in this study and other data was also proposed

  • Heat release characteristics of a CaO packed bed reactor which is used for a chemical heat storage device has been studied. We employed Cu-plate fins to release the heat of reaction of the CaO packed bed inside the reactor fast and effectively. Two-dimensional analysis of unsteady state heat flow inside the bed was performed as a function of time and under various conditions of the Cu-plates. It is noted that the time required to release the heat of reaction with Cu fins is reduced more than twice fast compared to that without Cu fins. That was largely dependent upon the number of Cu-plate, as well.

  • Weeding effect was investigated based on the leaf stages to several different herbicide treatments for an integrated weed management of herbicide resistant Echinochloa oryzoides to ACCase and ALS inhibitors in a rice field. Efficacy of soil-applied herbicide treatments before resistant E. oryzoides occurred was very effective. Pentaxazon 5% SC showed over 98% of weeding effect although E. oryzoides were emerged 31 days after the treatment. Until the leaf stage of 2.5, five herbicides, azimsulfuron carfenstole 1.05% GR, bensulfuron-methyl benzobicyclone mefenacet 24.52% SC, bensulfuron-methyl fentrazamide 7% SC, bensulfuron-methyl mefenacet oxadiargyl 21.6% SC and mefenacet pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 3.57% GR showed perfect weeding effect. Benzobicyclone mefenacet penoxulam 21.5% SC and mefenacet pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 3.57% GR were effective at the leaf stage of 3.0. It is very important to select the right herbicides for timing and their systematic application for controlling of E. oryzoides resistant to ACCase- and ALS-inhibitors.
