The effects of blast furnace slag(BFS) and desulfurized gypsum(FDG) on the compressive strength of CFBA, and self-hydration of CFBA were studied. CFBA has self-hydrating and hardening properties, and it can be seen that the compressive strength of CFBA can be improved by using appropriate amounts of BFS and FDG. In addition, the self-hardening properties of CFBA are similar to the hydration reaction of 4CaO·Al2O3·Fe2O3 (C4AF), a cement clinker mineral, and when free-CaO, CaSO4 and CaCO3 coexist, Compressive strength of CFBA is expressed by the formation of calcium carbo compounds and hydrates of ettringite, calcium silicate, and calcium aluminate.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) is mainly used as an on/off switch in the early stage of the study and was then expanded to navigational control of powered-wheelchairs and recognition of sign language or finger gestures. There are difficulties in communication between people who know and do not know sign language; therefore, many efforts have been made to recognize sign language or finger gestures. Recently, use of sEMG signals to recognize sign language signals have been investigated; however, most studies of this topic conducted to date have focused on Chinese finger number gestures. Since sign language and finger gestures vary among regions, Korean- and Chinese-finger number gestures differ from each other. Accordingly, the recognition performance of Korean finger number gestures based on sEMG signals can be severely degraded if the same muscles are specified as for Chinese finger number gestures. However, few studies of Korean finger number gestures based on sEMG signals have been conducted. Thus, this study was conducted to identify potential forearm muscles from which to collect sEMG signals for Korean finger number gestures. To accomplish this, six Korean finger number gestures from number zero to five were investigated to determine the usefulness of the proposed muscles and electrode placements by showing that CNN technique based on sEMG signal after sufficient learning recognizes six Korean finger number gestures in accuracy of 100%.
Hydrogels with enhanced biocompatibility and biostability were prepared by copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and sodium methacrylate (SMA) at high monomer concentration to replace a sponge which has limited applications as an implant material. It was found that incorporation of SMA moiety suppressed cytotoxicity. P(HEMA-co-SMA) hydrogel prepared at SMA feed ratio of 0.05 showed minimal cytotoxicity as compared with a normal cell culture plate. The adhesion and the spreading of cells were preferred on the surface of the hydrogel prepared with SMA feed ratio of 0.01. On the other hand, the hydrogel prepared with SMA feed ratio of 0.05 showed lower cell adhesion. Histological findings revealed no evidence of significant foreign body reaction in the tissues around the copolymer hydrogels. Conclusively, it is suggested that the hydrogels prepared by copolymerization of HEMA and SMA at high monomer concentration are strong candidates for an implant material with excellent biocompatibility and biostability.
In the concrete structures, the magnitude and distribution of the temperature due to the heat of hydration are related to the thermal properties of each component composed of the concrete, the initial temperature, the type of formwork, and the ambient temperature of exposed surfaces. Even though the reinforcing steel bar has completely different thermal properties, it has been excluded. In the thermal analysis on the concrete structures. In this study, finite element analysis was performed on the concrete structures including the reinforcing steel in order to investigate their effect on temperature and stress distribution due to the heat of hydration. As the steel ratio increased, the maximum temperature and the internal-external temperature difference decreased by 32.5% and 10%, respectively. It is clear that the inclusion of reinforcing steel bars on the heat of hydration analysis is indispensable to obtain realistic solutions for the prediction of the maximum temperature and stresses
The present study was carried out to find a suitable drying method for measuring non-evaporable water contents of various hydraulic inorganic materials. In Part 1 of the paper, the case Ordinary Portland cement is discussed. Various drying methods including vacuum and oven drying, and an ignition, were used for the OPC paste and mortar having different w/c. The sole vacuum drying under room temperature led a fluctuation on measurement of hydration degree, while the sole oven drying also yielded unwanted hydration promotion at the early age. A combination of the vacuum and oven drying was considered as a suitable drying method for the OPC case.
Adiabatic temperature rise test for predicting heat of hydration in mass concrete is especially inconvenient in the field. In order to overcome the problem, the equipment to effectively and conveniently measure semi-adiabatic temperature change was developed. The main objective of this paper is to propose a new and simple equipment for measuring semi-adiabatic temperature rise by using insulation bottles. In order to predict exact heat loss of concrete using this device, it is required to assume the specific heat loss coefficient of the device by water temperature change inside the experimental device. According to experimental and analytical results, the adiabatic temperature rise does not have significant differences in changes of temperature and humidity of air, as well as initial temperature of water. By comparing adiabatic temperature rise tests, the equipment for measuring semi-adiabatic temperature change can be used to predict the hydration heat of concrete within sufficient accuracy.
For recycling cement hydrate(CH) as waterproofers for mortar and concrete or a filler for rubber & plastics, the cement hydrates were treated with stearic acid(SA). And the bonding characteristics and the water repellency of the CH-SA compounds were investigated by using FT-IR, TGA, SEM, XRD, and contact angle measuring apparatus. Water tightness of the remitars used CH-SA compounds was also tested. The results are summarized as follows : 1) If the cement hydrates are treated with over 2.0% of stearic acid, the CH-SA compounds show very strong water repellency. 2) The stearic acids are solidified on the surfaces of cement hydrate in calcium stearate and aluminium stearate. 3) If CH-SA compounds which is cement hydrate treated with 5~10% of stearic acid are used 3%~6% in remitar, water absorption ratio and water permeatility ratio of remitar are decreased in below 30% of those of the ordinary remitar.
Chlorine dioxide gas has an excellent ability for sterilization and deodorization, and is harmless to humans. However, it is very unstable and explosive as it is highly concentrated, thus its use in the air clean fields has been limited. Therefore, there is need to control chlorine dioxide gas at a low concentration for a long time. Chlorine dioxide gas could be produced slowly and sustainedly since the release of acetic acid from the polymer hydrogels delayed the reaction between acetic acid and sodium chlorite. In addition, as the amount of both acetic acid sodium chlorite loaded within the hydrogel and on the membrane increased, respectively, the generation amount of chlorine dioxide gas increased. The result shows that the use of polymer hydrogels has the potential to control the generation of chlorine dioxide gas.
To research effects of various chemical superplasticizers(Lignosulfonic acid, Naphthalene sulfonated formaldehyde condensate, melamine sulfonated formaldehyde condensate, and Polycarboxylate) on the hydration of cement, experiments involving XRD, SEM, and DSC have been analysed with cement paste specimens. Regardless of types and dosages of superplasticizers, hydration reaction of specimen applied superplasticizer was delayed to 3 day, but then it showed similarity to plain which don't add superplasticizer. Moreover, the hydrating rate of cement paste was retarded as dosage of superplasticizer was increased. Also, kinetics related with hydrate of cement paste was slow in order of lignosulfonic acid, polycarboxylate, melamine and naphthalene sulfonated formaldehyde condensate. Nevertheless, when all kinds of chemical admixtures were used, morphologies of these hydrates were denser and more uniform than those of plain.
