  • This study has purpose on analyzing the error types which are identified after middle and high school students perform the online programming assignments and also has the purpose on the analysis of correlation between the frequency of error occurrence according to academic achievement level in programming concept learning and types of errors analyzed previously. For this study, the syntax, logical, and coding errors are analyzed from the performed results of programming research assignment for 88 students. Analyzed results show that the logical error has the highest occurrence rate of 69.3% among three types of errors, and it has been shown meaningful difference in the frequency of error occurrence between three achievement level groups of high, middle, and low. In the correlation analysis of achievement level and error types, it shows negative relationship between logical error and coding error, and therefore it can be concluded that as achievement level is higher, both logical and coding errors tend to occur less. In the correlation analysis in error types, it shows positive relationship between syntax error and coding error.

  • This study investigated the effects of the level of enrichment for analogies upon students' mapping, conceptual understanding, and the types of mapping errors in concept learning about Boyle's Law. Analogical reasoning ability test was administered and the score was used as a blocking variable. Three types (simple, enriched, and extended analogies) of learning materials according to the level of enrichment for analogies were studied by randomly assigned middle school students, and a conceptions test and a mapping test were administered immediately. The retention tests of both were administered four weeks later. Analyses of the results revealed that there was no main effect in the level of enrichment for analogies, but there was interaction effect with analogical reasoning ability in the post test on mapping. And the score of enriched analogy group was significantly higher than those of simple analogy group, but the score differences among three groups were not significant in the retention test on conceptual understanding. The frequency of the total mapping errors in the simple analogy group was the highest, and the frequencies of most types of mapping errors in the enriched and the extended analogy groups were less than those in the simple analogy group. There were also some differences in the frequencies of mapping errors with respect to the level of analogical reasoning ability. Therefore, these results will help science teachers plan and practice instructions using analogy.

  • In this paper, we study the recognition and fallacy of middle school students about the concepts of liner equations and liner functions. We chose 163 8th grade students and 103 9th grade students in M city and investigate their recognition and fallacy about the concepts of liner equations and liner functions. We found following facts. First, middle school students recognize an equation with respect to x as an equation, but do not recognize an equation with respect to y as an equation. Second, middle school students tend to recognize a linear function as a constant function y=p. Third, middle school students tend to distinguish an equation and a function according to the form of an algebraic expression. Finally, middle school students discern the difference between an equation and a function using their concepts in textbooks.

  • This paper is to find out the reason why students often make mistakes with 0 during computation and to get some instructional implication. For this, history of 0 is reviewed and mathematics textbook and workbook are analyzed. History of 0 tells us that the ancients had almost the same problem with 0 as we have. So we can guess children's problems with 0 have a kind of epistemological obstacles. And textbook analysis tells us that there are some instructional problems with 0 in textbooks: method and time of introducing 0, method of introducing computational algorithms, implicit teaching of the number facts with 0, ignoring the problems which can give rise to errors with 0. Finally, As a reult of analysis of Japanese and German textbooks, three instructional implications are induced:(i) emphasis of role of 0 as a place holder in decimal numeration system (ii) explicit and systematic teaching of the process and product of calculation with 0 (iii) giving practice of problems which can give rise to errors with 0 for prevention of systematical errors with 0.

  • The purpose of the study was two folded: to examine whether form-focused instruction (FFI) with corrective feedback (CF) is effective for the acquisition of the target linguistic forms and to find out the extent to which of the students' perceptions as well as their attitudes towards English instruction that they received. Tests and questionnaires were implemented to 122 Korean EFL students from eight classes enrolled in an English communication course. They were randomly assigned to three groups: the input-based group, who received typographical input enhancement materials, so-called the TIE group, the output-based group, who performed dictogloss tasks, so-called the DICT group, and the control group (CG). The data analysis was made on both tests and questionnaires by using SPSS 21.0 for Windows. The study found that different types of FFI with CF contributed to the improvement of students' grammatical knowledge and both the TIE and DICT task group students positively changed their perceptions and understanding as well as their attitudes towards the English instruction given, and students in all groups preferred pair work activities. In addition, most of the TIE and DICT students showed their interest and satisfaction with English class, whereas the CG group students did not. Based on the findings, this study suggested that well-planned and properly-chosen FFI in the form of pair work activities should be applied in classrooms with consideration of students' instructional preference in Korean EFL contextual settings.

  • Nim games were divided into three stages : one file, two files and three files game, and inquiry activities were conducted for middle school mathematically gifted students. In the first stage, students easily found a winning strategy through deductive reasoning. In the second stage, students found a winning strategy with deductive reasoning or inductive reasoning, but found an error in inductive reasoning. In the third stage, no students found a winning strategy with deductive reasoning and errors were found in the induction reasoning process. It is found that the tendency to unconditionally generalize the pattern that is formed in the finite number of cases is the cause of the error. As a result of visually presenting the binary boxes to students, students were able to easily identify the pattern of victory and defeat, recognize the winning strategy through game activities, and some students could reach a stage of justifying the winning strategy.

  • While Korean allows the same consonants at the coda of the preceding syllable and at the onset of the following syllable, English does not allow the geminate consonant in the same position. Due to this difference between Korean and English, Korean learners of English tend to incorrectly produce geminate consonants for English geminate graphemes as in summer. Based on this observation, a pilot study was designed to investigate how Korean learners of English perceive and produce English doubleton graphemes and singleton graphemes. Twenty Korean college students were asked to perform a forced-choice perception test as well as a production test for the 36 real word stimuli which consist of near minimal pairs of singleton and doubleton graphemes. The result showed that the accuracy rates for the word with singleton graphemes were relatively high both in perception and production (78.6% and 76.1%, respectively), while those for the word with doubleton graphemes were low both in perception and production (55.3% and 61.7%, respectively). Also, spectrographic analyses were provided where more production errors were witnessed in doubleton grapheme words than singleton grapheme words.

  • This paper proposes a Database Curriculum for Korean college students in the IT section. Most Korean college students in IT area should undertake Database subjects. However they are supposed to encounter identical troubles when studying the subjects. This may come from Korean culture. Therefore we analyzed out key issues that students must beware, and designed a curriculum accommodating the Korean culture.
