  • I had a chance to learn about grants made by British Library Research and Development Department in London and the Council on Library Resources in Washington in my studies designed to produce an institutional vision of supporting research and development in the field of library and information science in Japan. In this article, I have tried to elucidate contributions of the two agencies to the librarianship and research communities, reviewing their histories, management process and some features of research areas which meet their standards of providing grants.

Measuring Consumer Empathic Response to Advertising Drama (소비자 공감반응 척도 개발: 이야기 광고를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of the present study is to develop and validate the scale measuring consumer empathic response to advertising drama. Through a series of consumer surveys and factor analyses, the Consumer Empathic Response to Advertising Scale (the CERA scale) containing 11-Likert format items was developed. The CERA scale consists of three factors which are empathic understanding, identification, and vicarious emotional response. The CERA scale improves the content validity of the existing consumer empathy scales by including identification factor which has been ignored.

  • The purpose of this article is to study on the public administration in the perspective of I Ching(周易) which is the original philosophy and science of East Asia. I Ching is divided into two different schools, namely, the school of Image- Number I(象數易) and the school of Right Theory I(義理易). The school of Image- Number I are five science and technology(名 卜 醫 相 山) and astronomy, and so forth. And the school of Right Theory I are a Confucanist, a Taoist, a Mukist and all other thoughts. The meaning of Eastern Public Administration in mordern society is newer and better advanced concept, theory, and thoughts than western science and technology.

Discussions on Mechanisms, Features and Implications of the Digital Divide in Old Age (노년기 정보격차의 메카니즘, 특징 및 시사점에 관하여)

  • The digital divide has become an important social issue in the two waves of informatization and aging society. This study is to comprehensively examine various theoretical approaches and discussions on the mechanisms of the digital divide and to synthetically understand the features of the digital divide in old age. This study examines 1) four theoretical approaches on the mechanisms of digital divide among people in general, 2) three theoretical perspectives and six specific explanations on the digital divide in old age, and 3) five controversial features and concepts of the digital divide in old age. Consequently, this study suggests the need for a comprehensive approach to the multi-dimensional digital divide in old age and more attention to the digital divide in old age in terms of individual well-being and social inequalities. Further implications and limitations are discussed.

풍우란의 철학과학관 - 신리학(新理學)적 철학관 연구 -

  • 이 논문은 풍우란(馮友蘭:1895~1990)의 신리학적 철학과학관을 해명하는 것이다. 풍우란은 과학의 역할과 중요성을 긍정하면서도, 철학의 독자적인 역할을 인정한 철학자이다. 그에 따르면 과학은 실제세계에 대한 구체적 적극적 지식을 추구하고, 철학은 '인생경지(경계(境界))의 고양'을 추구하며 나아가 정신의 '자유와 불멸'을 목표로 하는 학문이다. 과학과 철학은 학문의 대상 방법 목표가 상이한 별개의 학문이다. 그는 신실재론의 논리분석방법을 빌어 중국전통철학을 재해석하여 신리학적 철학체계를 수립함으로써 그 혼동을 정리하려했다. 과학은 구체적 객관세계[기(器)] 즉 실제(實際)에 관한 학문이고, 철학은 추상적 보편세계[이(理)] 즉 진제(眞際)에 대한 학문이라는 것이다. 그래서 과학은 구체적인 실제세계에 대한 적극적[긍정적] 지식의 축적을 목표로 하고, 철학은 보편적 세계에 대한 이지적 분석 종합 해석을 목표로 한다. 가장 철학적인 철학인 형이상학은 인생의 경지를 드높이는 것을 추구한다. 철학은 최고의 인생경계 즉, 천지경계(天地境界)의 도달을 목표한다. 이를 위해 철학은 진제에 대한 개념적 논리적 분석을 통해 실제를 초월하는 네 가지 형이상학적 관념을 얻어 천지경계에 도달할 수 있다. 천지경계에 도달하는 형이상학적 방법은 두 가지이다. 하나는 정(正)의 방법으로 논리분석법인데, 경험에 대해 논리적 분석 종합 해석을 하는 것이다. 다른 하나는 부(負)의 방법으로 중국화(中國畵)의 '홍운탁월(烘雲托月)'처럼 말할 수 없는 것을 말하는(불가사의(不可思議), 불가언설(不可言說)) 방법이다. 형이상학은 이를 통해 인간의 삶에 자유와 불멸을 가져다줄 수 있다. 이런 형이상학적 활동은 과학이 목표로 하지도 않고 할 수도 없다는 것이 풍우란의 견해이다. 이로서 풍우란은 참과 거짓을 밝힐 수 없는 무의미한 명제의 추방을 주장한 논리실증주의와 대립되는 철학관에 도달했다.

Academic Characteristic and Understanding of Seo Kye Bak Se-Dang's Sa Byeon Rok The Doctrine of the Mean (서계(西溪) 박세당(朴世堂)의 『사변록(思辨錄) 중용(中庸)』 이해(理解)와 학문적(學問的) 특징(特徵))

  • This research is an attempt to newly interpret his academic evaluation and understand Seo Kye Bak Se-Dang's Sa Byeun Rok The Doctrine of the Mean. In academic world, his academic Characteristic was considered as anti-Neo-confucianism, out of Jung Ju Hak, out of Seong Ri Hak, and Sil Hak. His understanding of The Doctrine of the Mean was pretty critical, because he had unique academic characteristic to interpret Chinese classics rather than anti-Neo-confucianism, out of Jung Ju Hak, out of Seong Ri Hak, and Sil Hak. Especially, he took practical study with six Chinese classics as the central figure and it was a creative thing with philosophical method. He tried to find out original meaning which was essential thought of Confucianism, and pointed out disharmony for consistency about meaning of The Doctrine of the Mean when Jung Ja and Ju Ja interpreted The Doctrine of the Mean. It appeared as an effort of trying agreement between name and its duty, and role and function in things and act. In addition, he thought The Doctrine of the Mean as trying to follow nature, and it was the way of people to practice in bright side of mind. It is different from Ju Ja's thought which explains principle about people and things, and it has strong reality which is foundation of practice and allows dynamic energy of human life. Therefore, practice style of The Doctrine of the Mean develops filial duty as center of mass and appears manifestation of human's independence through how people pracice it. To sum up, he traced The Doctrine of the Mean as reality, practice, and physical science rather than ideal, theoretical, and metaphysical philosophy. It developed the spirit of study as understanding world as the center of human, thinking over the way of people, and studying the essence of Confucianism with practice of thought.

Okdong Lee Seo's Li(理)-Qi(氣)Dualism and Its Meaning (옥동(玉洞) 이서(李漵)의 이(理)·기(氣) 대립적(對立的) 사유(思惟) 양식(樣式)과 그 의미(意味))

  • This study is planned to research the ways and structue of Okdong's thinking, which are the foundation of his academic world, based on the collection of his literary pieces. This study became interested in Okdong Lee Seo because he with some strong stimulation and shock is considered as the turning point of his family's academic tradition. His family's academic tradition before Okdong had been famous for literatures of its members, such a tradition shifted toward Confucian classical studies. Especially, Okdong was the third elder brother of Seongho Lee Yik who represented the academia of the late Joseon period, and took an important role in forming Seongho's study. Okdong is considered to have built the basic structure of Seongho's study. It seems that in the process he transmitted their family's academic tradition whose focus got shifted from literature to Confucian classical studies. Thus, this study has the basic meaning as elucidation about the fundamental of Okdong's academic world. However, the larger meaning of this study is the verification of the fundamental structure of Seongho's study: Seongho's study stood on Okdong's study but overcame Okdong as an individual, and then became a academic standard of the late Joseon period. When the collection of Okdong's literary pieces is examined, it can be found that Okdong way of thinking rooted in the Confucian theory that human nature is originally good. Especially, Okdong maintained the li-qi dualism in which li and qi conflict against each other. For understanding and elucidating not-completely-good human mind, he understood li and qi within conflicting relationship. Okdong claimed that in order for a man to keep his life humane, the man should recover his moral completeness by cultivating his mind through sincerity and reverence. Okdong's goal was to build society and to realize human nature in accordance with the classical Confucian ideology of filial piety and respect and of loyalty and trust. Here lies the fundamental meaning of Okdong's way of thinking.

  • After the industrial revolution, the design concepts have established by the basis of the ornament and styling and emphasized in the respect of characteristics of the art and manufacture. On the other side, theoretical research part of design has neglected. But, the modem concepts of design is changing into new concept that shares the attributes of various sides of sociology, cultural sciences, engineering and business adminstration study. In accordance with the change of design concept, the utility frequency of the statistical method is increasing in the ares of design. In this paper, we evaluated the adequacy of statistical method of the design papers that were published in the Journal of Korean Society of Design Science.

  • 치과에 있어서 임프란트의 기여도는 대단히 크다 치과 각과 학문의 종합체인 임프란트치과의학의 정상적인 정착을 위하여 83년도 대한치과의사협회 종합학술대회의 메인 테-마는 치과임프란트로서 정하여 진바 있다. 이에 대한치과인공장기이식(임프란트)학회에서는 올바른 학문발전과 시술을 위하여 특강과 심포지움, 테이블크리닉과 포스타- 전시를 함으로써 임프란트 시술성공의 가이드라인인 임프란트의 이득과 결점을 제시함으로써 사고예방은 물론 성공으로서의 지침이 되어 나아가 우리나라 임프란트 치과의학 발전에 크게 도움이 되고저 노력하였다. 이 노력중의 하나인 한국의 임프란트치과의학의 현황을 이에 수록하였다.

  • 퍼지 이론(fuzzy theory)은 정보의 애매성을 다루는 학문으로 과학에 주관성이 도입된 형태의 새로운 학문 분야이다. 인간의 사고를 수치화하고 이를 언어적으로 처리할 수 있는 퍼지 이론은 인공지능(artificial intelligence)의 한 분야로서, 1965년 Lofti Zadeh 교수에 의하여 창안되었다. 초기 기초 연구 중심의 단계에서 현재에는 첨단 전자공학의 발달과 함께 퍼지 제어기의 농업 및 산업 응용이 활발해지고 있으며, 퍼지 칩이나 퍼지 컴퓨터의 개발까지 연구가 진행되고 있다.(중략)
