  • Recently, information on international trade goes on increasing in quantity because of the globalism and many related areas of the field. Most of libraries and informatin centers in Korea are using Dewey Decimal Classification(DDC), Library of congress Classification(LCC), and Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) to classify library materials on the subject. The application of three classification shcemes, DDC, LCC, and KDC were queried to determine the classification of materials on international trade. And analyses of the parts of international trade in three classification shemes were done in order to identify what major changes have made with the development of the field. There was subject scatter in DDC and LCC; there was an overlap among the classes of the three systems; and there was little change between present editions and the previous editions. The revision for international trade field of the KDC, the 4t edtition was suggested to help cover some deficiencies of the classification scheme. Inorder to develop a better KDC, the 5th edition, continuous revisions based upon the opinions of subject specialists and catalogers in the field are highly recommended.

  • Archives and Records Management Studies is being developed its own independent domains. However, the existing library classification scheme such as the KDC don't properly reflect the characteristics of Archives and Records Management Studies. This classification scheme has the irrational part of the arrangement of the subject items and should be required to rearrange subdivision of the subject areas. In this study, According to the characteristics of Archives and Records Management Studies, It is set up 8 subject areas, Records Management (General), the law and polices of records management, the collection and appraisal of the records, the documentary organization, recording information services, preservation of the records, archives management, archives and records center, etc. After analyzing the major contemporary library classification system such as KDC, DDC, NDC, UDC, LCC, then It is suggested that improvement measures through analyzing classification status and keywords of the Archives and Records Management data contained in Korean National Bibliography. In Archives and records management studies, The contents of the eight subject areas related to the field are changed to allow integration with KDC 028.

  • The purpose of this study is principle and theory of main class in a Library Classification. According to Sayers, 'The foundation of the library is the book; the foundation of librarianship is classification.' We looked at the between scientific and bibliographic classification, and at the fact that bibliographic scheme is usually an aspect classification. That is to say, the organization of topics is based on areas or activity and the first division of the scheme is into disciplines or subject domains. This first division of classification creates what are called main class. The sequence of main classes is also important. A rough definition of a amin class is that it corresponds to a sin91e notational character. Main classes usually equivalent to traditional disciplines. What constitutes a main class will vary from one classification to another. The order in which the main classes are listed is often discussed at the theoretical level, and some orders are considered to be better than others.
