Speech Quality Measure for VoIP Using Wavelet Based Bark Coherence Function (웨이블렛 기반 바크 코히어런스 함수를 이용한 VoIP 음질평가)

  • The Bark Coherence Function (BCF) defies a coherence function within perceptual domain as a new cognition module, robust to linear distortions due to the analog interface of digital mobile system. Our previous experiments have shown the superiority of BCF over current measures. In this paper, a new BCF suitable for VoIP is developed. The unproved BCF is based on the wavelet series expansion that provides good frequency resolution while keeping good time locality. The proposed Wavelet based Bark Coherence function (WBCF) is robust to variable delay often observed in packet-based telephony such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). We also show that the refinement of time synchronization after signal decomposition can improve the performance of the WBCF. The regression analysis was performed with VoIP speech data. The correlation coefficients and the standard error of estimates computed using the WBCF showed noticeable improvement over the Perceptual Speech Quality Measure (PSQM) that is recommended by ITU-T.

  • This paper proposes a robust speech recognition algorithm based on the wavelet filter banks. Since the proposed algorithm adopts a multiple band decision-making scheme, it performs robustness for noise as the presence of noisy severely degrades the performance of speech recognition system. For evaluating the performance of the proposed scheme, we compared it with the conventional speech recognizer based on the VQ for the 10-isolated korean digits with car noise. Here, the proposed method showed more 9~27% improvement of the recognition rate than the conventional VQ algorithm for the various car noisy environments.

  • The purpose of this work is to develop a system fer rapid and automatic identification of persons, with high reliability and confidence levels. The iris of the eye is used as an optical fingerprint, having a highly detailed pattern that is unique for each individual and stable over many years. Image analysis algorithms find the iris in a image, and encode its texture into an iris code. Iris texture is extracted from the image at multiple scales of analysis by wavelet transformation. The features of many different parts of the iris are projected onto the space-frequency space. They are used to determine an abstract iris code which is similar to 2D barcode. Pattern recognition is achieved by using modified CPN.

  • With the increasing use of multimedia technologies, image compression requires higher performance as well as new functionality in the informationized society. Specially, in the specific area of still image encoding in embedded system, a new standard, JPEG2000 that improve various problem of JPEG was developed. This paper proposed a method that reduce quantity of data delivered in EBCOT(Embedded Block Coding with Optimized Truncation) process using SPIHT(Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees) Algorithm to optimize selection of threshold from feature of wavelet transform coefficients and to remove sign bit in LL area for the increment of compression efficiency on JPEG2000. The experimental results showed the proposed algorithm achieves more improved bit rate in embedded system.

  • A quantitative prediction method for initial crack length in a carbon/epoxy (CF/EP) composite beam using active piezoelectric transducers was established in this study. Wavelet Transform (WT)-based signal processing and identification technique in time-frequency domain was developed to facilitate the determination of damage presence and severity. Dynamic response of a CF/EP composites beam containing a continuously expanding crack, coupled with a pair of active piezoelectric disks, was examined under a narrow band excitation, and then applied with the proposed signal processing technique.

  • 본 논문은 교차로에 설치된 영상검지기로부터 들어온 교통정보 중 공간교통정보에 해당하는 차량 대기길이를 측정을 하는 방법으로 각 차선(lane)별 검지영역에 대하여 웨이브렛 변형(Wavelet Transforms)을 하여 차량을 검지하고, 검지영역 내에서 차량의 대기길이를 측정하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 기존의 방법으로는 차량 윤곽선 추출(edge detection)을 이용한 대기길이 측정 방법이나 배경(background)정보를 사전에 입수한 후 임계값 이상의 변화가 있을 때 차량을 검지하여 대기길이를 측정하는 방법 등이 연구되어 왔으나 이러한 방법들은 영상의 노이즈에 대하여 크게 영향을 받는다는 문제점이 있다. 그러나 본 알고리즘은 영상의 노이즈에 대하여 크게 영향을 받지 않을 뿐만 아니라 시간대 변화에 따른 도로의 명암값(intensity or gray level)을 추정할 필요가 없다는 특징이 있다. 특히, 야간 영상인 경우 차량 헤드라이트로 인한 검지오류도 감소할 수가 있다. 본 논문에서 실험은 주간, 야간 각각 1개 차선의 80개 표본크기로 실험을 하였으며, 대기길이는 정지 대기길이(standing queue length)와 이동 대기길이(moving queue length)로 나누어 측정을 하였다. 그 결과 주간, 야간의 경우 정지 대기길이는 2.14%, 2.24%, 이동 대기길이는 2.59%, 2.74%의 오차율로 측정이 되었다.

  • 본 논문은 복합적인 상황을 고려한 데이터를 이용하여 얼굴인식을 하는 연구로서, 이산 웨이블렛을 기반으로 하는 다 해상도 분석 방법을 사용하고, 각 해상도에서 얻어진 계수를 이용하여 LDA와 ICA기법을 융합하는 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 얼굴인식방법은 정면에서 바라본 임의의 얼굴영상을 이용하므로, 예상하지 못한 얼굴 로션 변화에 대한 고려와 빛의 변화에 대해 고려하지 못했었다. 그러나, 본 연구에서는 다양한 상황을 고려한 데이터를 취득하여 해상도 별로 분리된 대역에 FLD와 ICA를 선택적으로 융합한 알고리즘을 적용하므로서 인식율을 높일 수 있었다

  • This paper proposes a new Artificial-Intelligent(AI) Power Quality(PQ) diagnosis algorithm using Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), Fast Fourier Transform(FFT), Root-Mean-Square(RMS) value. The developed algorithm is able to detect and classify the PQ problems such as the transient, the voltage sag, the voltage swell, the voltage interruption and the total harmonics distortion. The 15.36[kHz] sampling frequency is used to measure the voltages in a power system. The measured signals are used for DWT, FFT, RMS calculation. For AI diagnosis of the PQ problems, a simple multi-layered Artificial Neural Network(ANN) with the back-propagation algorithm is adopted, programmed in C++ and tested in PSIM simulation studies. Finally, the algorithm, which is installed in MP PQ+256 with TI DSP320C6713, is proved to diagnose the PQ problems efficiently.

  • In this paper, efficient digit-serial VLSI architecture for 1D (9,7) lifting-based discrete wavelet transform (DWT) filter has been proposed. The proposed architecture computes the DWT in digit basis, so that the required hardware is reduced. Also, the multiplication is replaced with the shift and add operation to minimize the hardware requirement. Bit allocation for input, output, and the internal data has been determined by analyzing the PSNR. We have carefully designed the data feedback latency not to degrade the performance in the recursive folded scheduling. The proposed digit-serial architecture requires small amount of hardware but achieve 100% of hardware utilization, so we try to optimize the tradeoffs between the hardware cost and the performance. The proposed architecture has been designed and verified by VerilogHDL and synthesized by Synopsys Design Compiler with a DongbuHitek $0.18{\mu}m$ STD cell library. The maximum operating frequency is 330MHz with 3,770 gates in equivalent two input NAND gates.

  • An attempt was made to evaluate the changes of microstructures and mechanical properties with increasing aging time in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel. In this study, it was verified the feasibility of the evaluation for degraded 2.25Cr-1Mo steel by isothermal heat treatment at $630^{\circ}C$ up to 1,000 hours using surface SH wave and investigated the change of attenuation coefficient and propagation time. Attenuation coefficient had a tendency to increase according to degradation and propagation time drastically in the beginning of deterioration. A good correlation between ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and hardness was found, which made sure that attenuation coefficient is an potential parameter for evaluation of aging degradation. In addition, it has verified experimentally the frequency dependence of ultrasonic group velocity and attenuation coefficient using wavelet transform.
