Most of the dredged sand generated from the sewage pipe maintenance project and the government's four-river project are disposed depending on abandonment and filling-up. This is caused by the lack of related recycling technology using dredged sand appropriately and high absorption rate and micro-particles of dredged sand producted from existing sand production system. Thus, this study carried out a quality assessment for the dredged sand produced through the optimum washing and sorting system supplementing problems of existing dredged sand production system as a part of research to examine performance of removing micro-particles and foreign substances. As a result of the assessment, the dredged sand produced through the cleaning and sorting system showed a wide quality improvement effect in absorption rate, 0.08 mm sieve pass amount, clay lump volume and organic impurity content, and it turned out to satisfy both the quality standards of this study, KS F 2573(recycled aggregate for concrete) and KS F 2526(aggregate for concrete) so it could be confirmed that it would be able to be used as an aggregate for concrete in the future.
SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool)-MODFLOW (Modular Groundwater Flow) is a coupled model that linking semi-distributed watershed hydrology with fully-distributed groundwater behavior. In this study, the groundwater simulation results of SWAT and SWAT-MODFLOW were compared for Bokhacheon watershed in Namhan river basin. The models were calibrated and validated with 9 years (2009~2017) daily streamflow (Q) data of Heungcheon (HC) water level gauge station and the daily groundwater level observation data of Yulheon (YH). For SWAT, the groundwater parameters of GW_DELAY, GWQMN, and ALPHA_BF affecting baseflow and recession phase were treated. The SWAT results showed the coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.7 and Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiencies (NESQ, NSEinQ) for Q and 1/Q with 0.73 and -0.1 respectively. For SWAT-MODFLOW, the spatio-temporal aquifer hydraulic conductivity (K, m/day), specific storage (Ss, 1/m), and specific yield (Sy) were applied. The SWAT-MODFLOW showed R2, NSEQ, and NSEinQ of 0.69, 0.74, and 0.51 respectively. The SWAT-MODFLOW considerably enhanced the low flow simulation with the help of aquifer physical information. The total streamflow of SWAT and SWAT-MODFLOW were 718.6 mm and 854.9 mm occupying baseflow of 342.9 mm and 423.5 mm respectively.
In this study, water protection reservoir is selected as the target which is located at the estuary of Taehwa river to analyze and examine the effects of hydraulic structure on river environment. This study aims at the definition of factors which cause the change of ecological environment of river due to the effects of the sediment protection reservoir, and the proposal of the direction of environmental friendly river space development through the analysis and examination of stream variation conditions and riverbed variation characteristics among many effects of hydraulic structure on river environment before and after removal of the sediment protection reservoir when design flow is yielded. Firstly, in case of removal the existing sediment protection reservoir, the hydraulic variation characteristics like depth drop due to removal of the sediment protection reservoir are thought of little because it is examined that depths drop with about 0.01m and 0.01~0.56m when low flow is yielded and design flood yielded, respectively. Nextly, as the examination result of the variation characteristics of flow velocity in case of removal the existing sediment protection reservoir, it is thought that the concern about riverbed erosion is not serious according to the analyzed result as the mean velocity of the channel section where the velocity varies in case of removal the sediment protection reservoir is about 0.07~1.36m/s when low flow is yielded, and is about 1.02~2.41m/s when design flood is yielded despite riverbed erosion is concerned as it is examined that flow velocity is getting increase as about 0.01m/s when low flow is yielded and about 0.01~0.44m/s when design flood is yielded. Lastly, from the prediction result of riverbed variation for each flow amount condition before and after removal the sediment protection reservoir, it is known that the variation range of riverbed is nearly constant when flow amount of the channel exceeds a specific limit as it is analyzed that the more flow amount, the more erosion and sediment in the channel section of down stream part of the sediment protection reservoir and the sediment protection reservoir~Samho-gyo, and the variation ranges according to flow amount between flood condition and design flood condition have little difference in the channel section of the upstream of Samho-gyo.
Urbanized environments are constructed to estimate peak flow and cost savings in response to possible BMP allocation at a watershed scale. The main goal is to explore the proper allocation of sub-watershed level BMPs for peak flow attenuation at a watershed scale. Since several individual site scale BMPs work as a form of aggregated BMPs at a sub-watershed scale, it is a question as to how to properly allocate the sub-watershed level BMPs at a watershed scale. The Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (HSPF) is set up for a hypothetically urbanized watershed. A peak flow is determined to be the primary variable of interest and targeted to characterize the spatial distribution of aggregated BMPs. Construction cost of a regional pond forms the basis of the economic valuation. The results indicate that when total size of BMPs is constant in the entire watershed, (1) it is most effective to have aggregated BMPs in some upper sub-watersheds while the BMPs in either the mainstem sub-watershed or a single sub-watershed are the least effective choices for peak flow attenuation at a watershed scale; (2) savings exist between allocation differences and reduced peak flow increases cost savings. The largest saving is found in the strategy of aggregated BMPs in some upper sub-watersheds. These findings, however, call for follow-up site specific case studies revisiting the watershed scale impacts of BMP allocation. Then, it will be argued that location and extent of decentralization are considerable policy variables for an alternative stormwater management policy at a watershed scale.

The Mongolian ger is ideally suited to the mongol's steppe climate and the nomadic way of life. This is a multipurpose dwelling which can be easily collapsed, transported to another place and put up again fully preserving its original shape. The pastoral nomadic ger has two key components: the wooden framework and the felt cover. The wooden parts are the walls(khana), the long poles(un), the smoke escape(toono) and its supports(bagana). One wall consists of 10-15 branches of willow tree. each about 1.5m high bound together in a way making it possible to fold it for transportation and then unfold it like an accordion. The unfolded walls are connected to form a circle. The long poles(un) are fastened to the upper part of the walls, with the other end passed through the toono hole, the only sky window and smoke escape through it from the ger. The toono is propped up by two posts, called bagana. All this forms the wooden framework of the ger, which is covered with felt. When the herders fire up their metal stoves, the temperature inside the ger becomes quite comfortable. Because the nomads live in a climate where there is only one growing season in a year, they do not make long migrations to new pastures. Livestock subsist on standing vegetation for eight months of the year. The basic pasture migration strategy is to leave enough standing vegetation at the end of the growing season in September to suffice until the new growth appears the following May. Mongolians use a type of compressed tea leaf that is called "brick" tea in English because it is rock solid and roughly the shape of a brick. And they consume a larger percent(88%) of fat from animal products such as meat, milk, butter, and cheese than any other people in the world. Milk products made from the milk of sheep, yak, and goats are major foods in the nomad's diet, but they are produced mainly in summer when all the animals are lactating. Mongolians made their special nomadic food culture on the steppe.

This study aims to figure out water quality impacts due to sudden disturbances of sediments during dike construction in land reclamation for the northern part of the Siwhaho Lake where heavily deteriorated settlements from upstream loadings are outstanding. We exploit a 3-D water quality model CE-QUAL-ICM combined with a hydrodynamic model TIDE3D. Simulations are done accounting water-sediment interaction in a 4-$\sigma$ layers. Long-term simulation for 1-year shows that bottom layers around the disturbance location are only affected and marks very high concentration. Complete vertical mixing appears at least 5km apart to downward due to complex effects of geometry, bathymetry and river inflows. It should be addressed that existing condition of the Siwhaho Lake stands for high concentration of COD and TP in winter and spring due to relatively high incoming loadings, however the effect of sediment disturbances yields reverse phenomena, i.e., impacts of dike construction arise greatly in summer and fall. Refined grid system consisting of 150m${\times}$150m rectangular grid, which is doubled system compared to previous study (Suh et al.,2002), gives affordable results by reducing flux differences through a cell especially in front of gate.

Direct estimation of the pollutant load(PL) should be carried out by the data filling in the missing intervals using an appropriate method because it is impossible in which the flow discharge(water quantity) or water quality(WQ) time-series data set have the missing intervals. In this study, the several methods estimating the water quality in the missing periods are suggested and the WQ and pollutants load change patterns are compared and evaluated based on the reproducible degree of the available data change patterns. The most appropriate method is finally suggested and the contribution factor deciding the influence degree and the PL characteristics of the river estuary is also suggested. Based on the PL estimation results using the several methods, the interpolation method considering the fluctuation of the available WQ data is shown to be most efficient. The PL patterns of the Han river estuary is classified as the discharge-dominated type. The data filling process is inevitable and the WQ estimation using the efficient and effective method should be carried out in order to estimate reasonable PL.

This study was carried out to survey the pollution of bisphenol A(BPA) and total organic carbon(TOC) in surface sediments around Gwangyang bay. BPA is suspected chemicals as endocrine disruption. Gwangyang bay Is located on the mid south coast of Korea. It is a semi-closed bay which Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex, POSCO(Pohang Steel Company) and Gwangyang container harbor are located. The surface sediments were collected at 15 stations with gravity corer at October, 1999, February, May and August, 2000. Also, the stream and intertidal sediment were collected at 5 sites at August, 2000. Concentrations of BPA in surface sediments were in the range of 0.46 to 24.59 ng/g dry wt.. Seasonal range(mean value) of BPA are 0.59 to 9.00(1.88) ng/g dry wt. at October, 0.99 to 2.97(1.57) ng/g dry wt. at February, 0.46 to 24.59(2.53)ng/g dry wt. at May and 0.54 to 2.46 (1.29)ng/g dry wt. at August. BPA was seasonally fluctuated, and the highest mean value and range were detected at May, 2000. BPA was highly distributed in the inner part of Kwangyang bay than Yosu sound. Concentrations of BPA in stream and intertidal sediments showed the highest value in downstream near Yochon petrochemical industrial complex and Yondung stream. It suggests that the source of BPA are industrial wastewater and municipal sewage. TOC in surface sediments were in the range of 0.09∼1.22%. There was no any correlation between the BPA and TOC.
This study presents measures to enhance the efficiency of Successive Alkalinity Producing Systems(SAPS), a natural biological purification method that prevents environmental pollution arising from the release of Acid Mine Drainage(AMD) from abandoned mines into rivers and groundwater. The treatment of AMD using SAPS is based on biological processing technology that mostly involves sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB). It has been proven effective in real-world applications, and has been employed in various projects on the purification of AMD. However, seasonal decrease in temperature leads to a deterioration in the efficiency of the process because sulfate-reducing activity is almost non-existent during cold winters and early spring even if SRB is able to survive. Against this backdrop, this study presents measures to enhance the activity of the SRB of the organic layer by integrating light emitting diode(LED)s in SAPS and to maintain the active temperature using LEDs in cold winters. Given that mine drainage facilities are located in areas where power cannot be easily supplied, solar cell modules are proposed as the main power source for LEDs. By conducting further research based on the present study, it will be possible to enhance the efficiency of AMD treatment under extreme cold weather using solar energy and LEDs, which will serve as an environmentally-friendly solution in line with the era of green growth.
This study was carried out to establish rational methodologies for the use of pesticide formulations to be sprayed after water-dilution. Hardness and electric conductivity of six major river water and ground water sampled from 52 sites in major rice-growing areas across the country ranged from 5 to 324 ppm(av. 90 ppm) and from 0.038 to 1.078 dS/m(av. 0.265 dS/m), respectively, which are acceptable for diluent water of pesticides. The pH changes in pesticide spray solutions with time after preparation mainly depended on the pH of the water used for pesticide dilution. The surface tensions of pesticide spray solutions reduced slightly with time after preparation, irrespective of kinds of pesticide formulations. Suspensibility of WPs became worse with an increase in the hardness and salt concentrations of diluent water, even though the degree was negligible. Emulsion stability of ECs became worse with an increase in hardness and salt concentrations of diluent water. Degradation rates of the active ingredients of pesticide spray solutions 3 days after preparation were less than 5%, regardless of mixing or non-mixing of two or more pesticides. Consequently, the spray solutions of most pesticides were usable until two to three days after preparation unless physical properties deteriorated. The tank-mixing order of EC and WP formulations did not make any differences in all the physical properties of pesticide spray solutions. However, the proper order for the tank-mixing of compatible pesticides was WP, WG, SC, EC, and SL, because the order is easy to prepare the pesticide spray solutions. The efficacy of pesticide spray solutions on the respective target pathogens and insect pests of rice plants three days after preparation was recorded over 95% of that of 0 day, which was almost the same as that of the solutions applied punctually after preparation.
