  • The crashworthiness of the fuel tank of a rotorcraft is verified through the crash impact test. The crash impact test has a high risk of failure due to the application of an excessive load, which can seriously affect the overall development schedule of the aircraft. Therefore, a lot of effort has been made to minimize the possibility of failure in the actual test by carrying out a numerical analysis of the crash impact test of the fuel tank in the initial design stage. Recently, an external auxiliary fuel tank was added to increase the cruising distance. In this study, the numerical analysis results of the crash impact test based on several different shapes of the external auxiliary fuel tank are presented, in order to evaluate its crashworthiness. For the numerical analysis, smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), which is one of the fluid-structure coupled analysis methods, is applied and the test conditions prescribed by US military standards are reflected in the analysis conditions. In addition, the material property data previously obtained by the specimen test of the actual fuel tank is applied to the numerical analysis. As a result, the equivalent stress of the fuel tank material itself and the metal fitting is provided and the possibility of acquiring data for designing the crash-worthiness of the external auxiliary fuel tank is evaluated by examining the behavior and working load of the internal mounted components.

  • The linear curve fitting methods such as the Hvorslev method and the Bouwer and Rice method provide a rapid and simple means to analyze slug test data for estimating in-situ hydraulic conductivity (k) of geologic material. However, when analyzing a slug test in a relatively compressible aquifer, these methods have difficulties in fitting a straight line to the semi-logarithmic plot of the test data that shows a concave-upward curvature because the linear curve fitting methods ignore the role of the compressibility or specific storage ($S_s$) of an aquifer. The comparison of the Hvorslev method and the Bouwer and Rice method is made far a partially-penetrating well geometry to show analytically that the Hvorslev method estimates higher hydraulic conductivity than the Bouwer and Rice method except that the well intake section locates very close to the bottom of the aquifer. The effect of fitting a straight line to the slug test data is evaluated along with the dimensionless compressibility parameter (${\alpha}$) ranging from 0.001 to 1. A modified linear curve fitting method that is expanded from Chirlin's approach to the case of a partially penetrating well with the basic-time-lag fitting method is introduced. A case study for a compressible glacial till is made to verify the proposed method by comparing with a type curve method (KGS method).

  • In this study, compression and shear characteristics of laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings with various parameters are investigated by using material and geometric nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis. Rubber coupon tests are performed to make a model of the laminated rubber bearings. In addition, the material constants of the rubber are calculated by the curve fitting process of stress-strain relationship. The finite element analysis and experimental tests of the laminate rubber bearings are used to verify the validity of the rubber material constants. It is seen that the compression behavior of the laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings mainly varies depending on the first shape factors and their shear behavior significantly varies depending on the second shape factors. In addition, the horizontal stiffness and energy dissipation capacity of lead rubber bearing are increased when the diameter of a lead bar is increased.

  • We developed a new hearing aid telephone which helps the hearing impaired person to improve the listening ability of telephone speech. Recently, the hearing impaired person and the elderly who has hearing loss have been continuously increased and their desire for participating society as a producer has been increased also. So they strong1y want the hearing aid devices which make compensation fortheir handicap. The hearing aid telephone is one of the basic aid devices that helps the hearing impaired to communicate well with other poeple and to acquire easily useful information through the phone. We analyze the hearing ability of the hearing impaired, design the new model of the hearing aid telephone and test the telephone in three fields-electrical, word perception, user test. Our new tolephone has lour band pass filter channels and the center frequencies of these filters are 500, 1000, 2000, 3000Hz which are considered psychoacoustic factors and telephone line characteristics. The hearing impaired can adjust the total gain characteristics of receiving sound to his hearing ability by setting four volumes in the telelphone. This procedure is called fitting which is a very important factor for the hearing impaired to take meaning of speech. The total gain of this telephone is over 20dB from 250Hz to 3200Hz range. From the results of the tests we certify that our new model is better for the hearing impaired to understand the meaning or telephone speech than the old general models. The next step of developing the hearing aid telephone is to study about compressing sidetone and noise, dividing frequency bands, selecting hearing aid pattern and compensating psychoacoustic loudness. we expect that the advanced hearing aid telephone can be developed by the research about speech perception characteristics of the hearing impaired in engineering and clinical side.

  • In this paper, we measured and analysised the power change of tear lens for 85 patients - 170 myopia eyes - who are fitted using RGP lens, considering the BGR of RGP lens, the corneal astigmatism power, and corneal curvature. We got the following results from these experiments; 1. When the BCR of RGP lens changes, the diopters of tear lens of "on-k", 0.05Pt, 01.0Ft, 0.05St, and 0.10St are -0.25D, -0.46D, -0.63D, +0.07D, and +0.26D, respectively. 2. When the corneal astigmatism power changes, the diopters of tear lens of group below 0.75D, group of 1.00D~1.25D, group of 1.50D~1.75D, and group over 2.00D in "on-k" state, are -0.25D, -0.18D, -0.09D, and -0.39D, respectively. 3. When the corneal astigmatism power changes and the BCR of test lens is changed by 0.05mm step, the change values of tear lens diopter for 0.05St and 0.05Ft approximate to ${\pm}0.25D$, while these for 0.10St and 0.10Ft don't approximate to the value below ${\pm}0.25D$.[are irregular value below ${\pm}0.25D$.] 4. When the corneal curvature and the HCR of RGP lens change, the diopters of tear lens of group below 7.50mm, group of 7.55~7.80mm, group of 7.85~8.20mm, and group over 8.25mm in "on-k" state, are -0.40D, -0.11D, -0.20D, and -0.19D, respectively. 5. When the BCR of test lens is changed by 0.05mm step and the corneal curvature increases, the change values of tear lens diopter decrease, while these over 8.25mm are mean value ${\pm}0.17D$ and the value below ${\pm}0.25D$.

  • A pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR) designed to refuel in service produces the energy required by nuclear fission. The fuel channel consists of components such as a pressure tube which directly contacts the fuel and is a passage for the reactor coolant, a calandria tube which contacts the moderator and is rolled joint with calandria, and a spacer which is not to contact the pressure tube and a calandria tube. As the fuel channel is one of the most important equipments, it requires accurate and periodic inspections to assess the integrity of a reactor in accordance with CSA N285.4. A fuel channel inspection system is developed to inspect fuel channels during in-service inspection in Wolsong unit. In this paper, the results and considerations of a field test are presented in order to show the effectiveness of the developed fuel channel inspection system.

  • This paper presents a algorithm for automatic target recognition robust to the influence of the flame in order to track the target by EOTS(Electro-Optical Targeting System) equipped on UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) when there is aerial target or marine target with flame at the same time. The proposed method converts infrared images of targets and flames into a gradient vector field, and applies each gradient magnitude to a polynomial curve fitting technique to extract polynomial coefficients, and learns them in a shallow neural network model to automatically recognize targets and flames. The performance of the proposed technique was confirmed by utilizing the various infrared image database of the target and flame. Using this algorithm, it can be applied to areas where collision avoidance, forest fire detection, automatic detection and recognition of targets in the air and sea during automatic flight of unmanned aircraft.

  • Purpose: To emphasize the necessity of post-fitting by follow-up test, the mis-alignment was analyzed after initial wearing of toric soft contact lenses (TSCL). Methods: After trial contact lenses were worn to 87 eyes with myopic astigmatism for 1 week, we observed the alignment of axis mark on trial contact lenses using slit lamp and corrected the rotated axis by method of LARS. After final fitting, rotation ratio, rotation degree and rotation position were analyzed compared to initial prescription divided to amount of cylinderical and spherical powers. Results: Rotation ratio of TSCL's axis was increased as increment of both cylinderical powers and (-)spherical powers. An average of rotation degree was $10^{\circ}{\sim}13^{\circ}$ which was not related to amount of their powers. Rotation position of TSCL's axis was more to temporal than to nasal. Conclusions: Because mis-alignment of axis after TSCL wearing induce the poor sight, adjustment of axial alignment as a result of follow-up must be performed.

  • In this paper, we suggest a method of extracting circuit parameters of the insulating transformer using S-parameter measurement, especially in high frequency range. At 60 Hz, conventionally, no load test and short circuit test are used to extract the circuit parameters. In this paper S-parameters measured from VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) were used to extract the transformer parameters using data fitting method (optimization). The S-parameters from the equivalent circuit using the extracted parameters showed good agreement with those from measurement. Furthermore, the transformer secondary voltages from the equivalent circuit model also coincide quite exactly to the measured secondary voltages in sinusoidal forms. Finally we assert that the proposed method to extract the parameters for the insulating transformer using S-parameter is valid especially in high frequency.
