The Design of an Infrared Transcutaneous Control Unit for Totally Implantable Middle Ear System (완전 이식형 인공중이를 위한 체외 및 체내 제어시스템 구현)

  • An infrared remote control-type transcutaneous control device using a $\mu$-processor is design for the totally implantable middle ear system. An infrared light transmission model for the tissue of skin was introduced and then a radiant intensity and the required current of the infrared light emitting diode(IR LED) driving circuit at transmission part were calculated for the external control device. And the transmission part generates IR signal by the system's own data protocol which prevents interferences from other infrared remote controls of the household appliances. The control part of the implanted device was designed to analyze functions of the received infrared(IR) signal that indicate the power ON/OFF and volume UP/DOWN. After the system is implemented, a data transmission experiments using 4 mm thickness of porcine skin were carried out. From the experiment, it was verified that the infrared control signal was transmitted to receiving module of the implemented system without any error.

Effect of pH-Sensitive P(MAA-co-PEGMA) Hydrogels on Release and Stability of Albumin (pH 감응성 P(MAA-co-PEGMA) 수화젤이 알부민의 방출과 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • pH-sensitive P(MAA-co-PEGMA) hydrogel particles were prepared and their feasibility as smart delivery carriers for cosmetic ingredients was evaluated. P(MAA-co-PEGMA) hydrogel particles having an average size of approx. $2{\mu}m$ were synthesized via dispersion photopolymerization. There was a drastic change in the swelling ratio of P(MAA-co-PEGMA) particles at a pH of around 5 due to the ionization of MAA in the hydrogel and as the amount of MAA in the hydrogel increased, the swelling ratio increased at a pH above 5. The P(MAA-co-PEGMA) hydrogel particles showed a pH-sensitive release behavior. Thus, at pH 4 almost none of the albumin permeated through the skin while at pH 6 relatively high skin permeability was obtained. The albumin loaded in the P(MAA-co-PEGMA) hydrogel particles was hardly degraded in the presence of pepsin and its stability was maintained.

The Application of Nanoliposome Composed of Ceramide as an Anti-irritant in Cosmetics (세라마이드를 구성성분으로 하는 나노리포좀의 응용 - 화장품에서의 자극완화제)

  • The objective of this study is to suggest the potentialities of nanoliposome composed of ceramide as an anti-irritant against various irritants used in cosmetics. Ceramides are major structural components of the epidermal permeability barrier, which is known to play an essential part in human physiology by not only preventing the loss of water from the body but also protecting the body from external physical, chemical, and microbial insults. According to the results, better effects on reinforcement of skin barrier function and anti-irritation were obtained with nanoliposome composed of ceramide than with dispersed ceramide. And, we performed in vitro skin penetration test using horizontal Franz diffusion cells with skin membrane prepared from hairless mouse to evaluate the influence of nanoliposome composed of ceramide on the skin penetration of lactic acid in formulations. From the results, we found that the anti-irritation effects of nanoliposome containing ceramide were due to reduced penetration rate of irritants. Conclusively, we could develop a new anti-irritation system and apply this nanoliposome composed of ceramide to the final cosmetic products successfully.

Skin permeability of the biosynthetic galactosylated 2-phenoxyethanol (생합성된 galactosylated 2-phenoxyethanol의 피부 투과도)

  • The safety of cosmetic ingredients is considered paramount. In order to enhance safety, a novel preservative, PE-gal, was bio-synthesized by utilizing the Escherichia coli enzyme 𝛽-galactosidase on the conventional preservative 2-phenoxyethanold (PE). The skin absorption of the bio-synthesized product, PE-gal, intended for use in cosmetics, was evaluated for permeability using the Franz Diffusion Cell Assay system, comparing it with the conventinal preservative PE. When using samples of the same mass concentration, the Flux and Kp values of PE increased over time, indicating a gradual increase in permeability. However, PE-gal did not exhibit sufficient permeability to measure. This suggests that the skin permeability of PE is higher than that of the PE-gal saccharide. According to Marzulli et al., when confirming the degree of permeation using Kp values, the permeation rate of PE was measured as "slow" at a concentration of 1mg/mL. Thus, the transdermal permeability of the divedened form of PE-gal was significantly lower compared to PE.

Development of Porous Cellulose Hydrogel for Enhanced Transdermal Delivery of Liquiritin and Liquiritigenin as Licorice Flavonoids (감초 플라보노이드 Liquiritin 및 Liquiritigenin을 담지한 피부전달체인 셀룰로오스 다공성 하이드로젤 제형 개발)

  • Licorice, widely used as a herbal medicine, has flavonoids such as liquiritin and its aglycone, liquiritigenin that show anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Licorice flavonoid-loaded cellulose hydrogels were prepared as carriers for skin drug delivery, and their properties were investigated. The porous cellulose hydrogel was made by reacting cellulose with epichlorohydrin as a cross-linking agent in NaOH/urea(1~10%) solutions. Through studies on the rheological properties and water uptake of the hydrogel, a NaOH/urea(6%) solution was established as being optimum for the synthesis of the cellulose hydrogel containing liquiritin and liquiritigenin. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of a cross-section of the prepared hydrogel indicated its porosity. In particular, in skin permeation experiments using a Franz diffusion cell, hydrogel containing the licorice flavonoids showed remarkable transdermal permeation compared to the control group. These results indicate that porous cellulose hydrogel is a potential drug delivery system to enhance the skin permeation of licorice flavonoids.

  • The skin protects the body from excessive water loss and the invasion of harmful substances, such as chemicals and microbes. The stratum corneum, is recognized as a very important physical barrier. However, in recent years evidence emerged that tight junctions (TJ) might also play a crucial role in barrier function of the skin. In the present study, TJ proteins including transmembrane proteins and plaque proteins, skin permeability barrier function and skin diseases of TJ were reviewed.

Characterization and Transdermal Delivery of Ethosomes Loaded with Liquiritigenin and Liquiritin (리퀴리티게닌과 리퀴리틴을 담지한 에토좀의 특성 및 경피 전달)

  • Liquiritin and its aglycone, liquiritigenin are flavonoid found in licorice that show anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties. In this study, ethosomes loaded with hydrophobic liquiritigenin or liquiritin were prepared as a transdermal delivery system. The particle size, entrapment efficiency, and skin permeability of ethosomes were evaluated. Ethosome containing liquiritigenin was stable up to 2 mM and ethosome containing liquiritin was stable up to 0.75 mM concentration. The particle size of ethosomes containing 0.75 mM liquiritigenin and liquiritin was 143.85 and 158.90 nm, respectively and the entrapment efficiency was 47.51 and 54.61%, respectively. The entrapment efficiency was improved with increasing concentrations of drugs. Ethosomes loaded with liquiritigenin or liquiritin were superior in skin permeation ability compared to that of 20% ethanol solution and conventional liposomes. These results suggest that ethosomes containing 0.50 mM liquiritigenin or liquiritin are effective for the skin permeation and may be used as an antiaging and antioxidant ingredient in cosmetic formulation.

Development of New Biodegradable CHITULOSE film from Composite of Chitin and Cellulose (Chitin과 Cellulose 복합체로부터 새로운 생분해성 CHITULOSE film의 개발)

  • A Chitulose film was made by dissolving chitin and cellulose in a dimethylacetamide/LiCl solvent system This film was completely degraded in 20 days in soil and penetrated by soil microorganisms in 16-26 hours. A permeability analysis of the film showed that water permeability was in the range of 0-187.5 $1/m^2$/day, depending upon the ratio of chitin to cellulose and decreased with increasing a cellulose content in the Chitulose film The permeabilities of organic compounds, $Na^+$ and oxygen change with the composition of the Chitulose file The film was tested with a burned 2~3degree rat for exploring its use as artificial skin. The rat was completely cured within 31 days without inflammation.

Standardization of Vocabulary for Skin Barrier of Ostomy Aids (장루 용품의 피부장벽에 대한 용어 표준화)

  • The skin barrier is an important part of an ostomy product, holding the ostomy bag in place and protecting the peristomal skin. Skin barriers help protecting the peristomal skin from excrements and secretion, thus keeping the skin physiology intact by absorbing or permeating sweat. The vocabulary for the skin barrier has been standardized by ISO 24214, but there is no standard related to the skin barrier in Korea. We investigated the academic and commercial documents related to the skin barrier, and conducted a survey for appropriate korean vocabulary for standard. We propose Korean standard vocabulary for skin barrier terms defined in ISO 24214:2006.

Vitabrid-C를 함유한 피부 미백용 트윈케익 파우더 개발

  • 비타민 C(L-ascorbic acid)는 강한 항산화성, 피부에 대한 높은 안전성으로 인해 피부의 노화방지, 미백, 주름 개선 등의 기능성 화장품 원료로써 많은 관심이 있는 물질이지만, 화학적으로 매우 불안정하여 쉽게 산화, 분해되므로 화장품 제형으로 포함시키는데 곤란한 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서는 비타민 C 의 안정성에 대한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 생체 및 피부 친화성이 우수한 무기물을 사용하여 비타민 C 를 캡슐화(encapsulation)한 분말상의 유-무기 복합물질 Vitabrid-C 를 합성하고, 이를 함유하는 피부 미백용 트윈케익 파우더를 개발하였다. 우선 Vitabrid-C 는 수용액상에서 비타민 C 를 수화된 산화아연(ZnO)으로 1 차 캡슐화하여 나노입자를 형성시키고, 그 표면을 실리카(silica)나노 입자로 한번 더 코팅하여 표면의 껍질이 다공특성을 갖는 분말을 제조함으로써 완성하였다. 이렇게 제조된 Vitabrid-C는 순수 비타민 C 에 비해 우수한 안정성을 보였으며, 캡슐 내 비타민 C 가 서서히 방출되는 서방특성을 발휘하였다. 또한 Vitabrid-C는 입자의 크기가 미세하고 균일하여 트윈케익 처방에 용이하게 적용할 수 있었다. Vitabrid-C와 순수 비타민 C의 생화학적 동등성에 대한 평가는 tyrosinase 억제능(L-DOPA oxidase 억제) 및 DPPH항산화 실험을 통하여 비교하였다. 트윈 케익 처방에 적용된 Vitabrid-C 에서 비타민 C 의 피부 투과경향을 Franz diffusion cell 법을 이용하여 확인하였다 또한 Vitabrid-C가 포함된 트윈케익을 건강한 피부를 가진 25 세 이상되는 여성의 전박에 색소 침착을 유도한 후 피부색 개선 효과 평가를 통해 임상적 효능을 평가하였다.
