In this study uniaxial cyclic loading tests were performed on Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone specimens to investigate the fatigue failure behavior. The loading rate was kept constantly at 760kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$/sec under cyclic loading. In order to reveal the fatigue behavior for each rock type, the test results were mutually compared with previous studies carried out on Indiana Limes-tone and Seong-Ju Sandstone. Fatigue data is presented in the form of S-N curves, which illustrate the relationship of maximum applied stress(S) to the number of cycles(N) required to produce failure. For the purpose of comparing the S-N curves for each rock type, the test data were formulated up to 10$^4$cycles and the correlation coefficients(R) on Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Seong-Ju Sandstone specimen are 0.886 and 0.983, respectively. All three rock specimens were found to have shorter fatigue life at higher applied stress levels. The fatigue life for each rock type was considered as no less than 81.5, 70 and 74.8%, for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone, Indiana Limestone and Seong-Ju Sandstone, respectively. The comparison in static strength for monotonic loaded specimens and specimens which did not fail even after 10$^4$cycles indicated that the increasing rate of strength was about 6.18 and 10.96% , for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Indiana Limestone, respectively. Poisson's ratio and volumetric strain for Cheon-Ho Mt. Limestone and Seong-ju Sandstone, tended in all the cases to rapidly increase at higher stress levels and with an increase in number of cycles. This increasing trend becomes rapid and obvious just before failure. Also Poisson's ratio and volumetric strain for each stress level were compared and analyzed at the first cycle and the cycle prior to failure.

A laboratory investigation is conducted to characterize and quantify fatigue lives of continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP) with initial design parameters. Eight specimens scaled were made based on results of finite-element analyses and stress-strain curve comparisons. Static tests were firstly performed to obtain magnitudes of static failure loads and to predict crack patterns before fatigue tests. The fatigue lives measured in the study were compared based on each initial design parameter. The comparison indicates that the fatigue lives of CRCP specimens with initial cracks increases with increasing the initial crack spacing, and CRCP specimens with reinforcements at top of the concrete slab have more fatigue lives than those with reinforcements at midheight of the concrete slab. In addition, the fatigue lives were significantly affected by soil conditions under the CRCP specimens. The results obtained in the study can be used for maintenance and retrofit of the continuously reinforced concrete pavements.

Inconel alloys are generally used as steam generator tubes in nuclear power plants. These alloys are highnickel chromium alloys that exhibit excellent resistance to aqueous corrosion. In this paper, the effects of elevated temperatures such as an operating temperature of $320^{\circ}C$ on the fretting fatigue behavior of inconel 600 and 690. We observed that the plain and fretting fatigue limits at $320^{\circ}C$ were slightly lower than those at room temperature. The frictional forces varied depending on the number of load cycles. After each test, we studied the fretting fatigue mechanisms via SEM observations. These results can be used for structural integrity evaluations at elevated temperatures and for studying fretting damage in steam generator systems.

Steel pipe piles have been used as various deep foundation materials for a long time. Recent increase in steel material cost has made engineers reluctant in using it even with its good quality and ease of construction. Therefore when constructing with steel pipe pile, the decision to reuse the excessive pile length that is cut off from the designed pile head elevation after pile driving can be cost saving. This has caused many constructors to reuse the pile leftovers with new piles, but the absence of quantitative structural capacity behaviors of steel pipe pile after pile driving or appropriate countermeasures and standards in reusing steel pipe pile has resulted in wrong applications, pile structural integrity problems, inappropriate limitation of reusable pile length, etc. The structural performance analysis between a new pile and a pile that has undergone working state and ultimate state stress level during pile driving was performed in this research by means of comparing the results between the dynamic pile load test, tensile load test, charpy energy test and fatigue test for high strength steel of $440N/mm^2$ yield strength. Test results show that under working load conditions the yield strength variation is less than 2% and for ultimate load conditions the variation is less than 5% for maximum total blow count of 3000. The results have been statistically analyzed to check the sensitivity of each factors involved. From the test results, reusability of steel pipe pile lies not in the main pipe yield strength deviation but in the reduction of absorb energy, strength changes and quality control at the welded section, shape deformation and local buckling during pile driving.
In this study, bone plate made of glass/polypropylene composite material which was applied to an artificial bone was tested to check the service ability under fatigue loading. To check serviceability of composite bone plates fatigue test was carried out considering changes in the moisture absorption rate, locking position of screws and loading condition. Test results showed that all the tested specimens had the fatigue life more than one million cycles which was much higher fatigue life than the expected value of 650,000 cycles. Screw position was not critical impact on the deformation of the fracture site. In this paper, the mechanical performance of the glass/polypropylene composite was verified by fatigue test under various water absorption conditions, and this result may give useful information on the design of composite bone plate.
Most of the ship structures and offshore structures are constructed through the welding and they are always subjected to variable loads. In this study, fatigue and stress concentration of the various types of welding connections due to the variable loads are investigated by using numerical approach, and comparisons between numerical analysis and experiments are performed. Fillet weld, full penetration weld and partial penetration weld characteristics are studied by using parameters such as penetration length, welding leg length, size and penetration angle. Based on this study, it is suggested that the fillet welding can be replaced with the penetration welding in some cases. The results of this study can be used as guidelines for actual welding problems in the shipyards.

Static loadings on ship structure induced either by water pressure before service such as a tank test and ballasting or by cargo pressure during first laden voyage cause relatively much greater stress than dynamic loadings induced by wave. With these static pre-loadings, the initial residual stresses around welded joint, where fatigue strength is concerned(in most cases, where stress concentration occurs) are expected to be shaken-down in a great extent by the elasto-plastic deformation behavior of material. Therefore, it is more resonable to assess the fatigue strength of ship structure with S-N data which have taken into account the effect of shaken-down residual stresses(re-distributed stresses) on the fatigue strength. In this research work, the re-distribution of residual stresses by the tensile pre-loading is measured using an ordinary sectioning method for specimens of padding plate weldment. Fatigue tests are performed also to evaluate the fatigue strength of the both as-welded and pre-loaded specimens.

Material degradation due to corrosion fatigue was evaluated nondestructively using backward radiated Rayleigh surface wave. h corrosion fatigue test was carried out for the specimens made of thermo-mechanically controlled process steel in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution at $25^{\circ}C$. The backward radiation profile, which is the amplitude variation of backward radiated ultrasound according to the incident angle, of the specimens were measured in water at room temperature after the corrosion fatigue test. The velocity of Rayleigh surface wave, determined from the incident angle at which the profile of the backward radiated ultrasound became maximum, decreased for the specimen that had the large number of cycles to failure in the corrosion fatigue test. This fact implies that the corrosion degradation occurred at specimen surface in this specific test is dominantly dependant on the me exposed to corrosion environment. The result observed in the present work demonstrates the high potential of backward radiated Rayleigh surface wave as a tool for nondestructive evaluation of corrosion degradation of aged materials.

Improvement of steel material quality made fatigue problems more critical than failure of the material itself. In many cases, cracks on the welded parts of steel deck bridges are reported against the failure of steel materials. And the cracks are caused by alternate stress on the welded parts due to live loads on the bridge. The range of alternate stress on the welded part is related to property of the sections which compose othortropic steel deck. Othortropic steel deck is mainly composed of deck plate, ribs and floor beams, wearing surface, etc. In this paper, a methology to estimate the alternate stress for pthortropic steel deck using Pelikan-Esslinger method and signed Von-Mises equivalent stress is proposed first. Parametric study served references for fatigue stresses when designing or repairing othortropic steel deck bridges, by analyzing relationship between alternate stress range and properties of steel deck members.
