A Study on ULCS Fatigue Damage Considering the Variation of Cargo Weight Distribution (화물 중량 분포 변화에 따른 초대형 컨테이너선의 피로 손상에 대한 연구)

  • Fatigue damage analysis of ships includes parameters considering operational factors. Due to these operational variables, there is a difference between the fatigue damage estimated during the design stage and the actual accumulated fatigue damage. Likewise, there are various loading conditions for the real container ships, but at design stage the fatigue damage is calculated by applying the representative loading conditions. Moreover, although the difference in fatigue damages is expected when the actual and design loading conditions are applied, there are few studies on the contributions of the fatigue damage based on the loading conditions of container ships. In this paper, fatigue contributions were investigated from various cargo weight distributions. The hull girder loads calculated through seakeeping analysis and fatigue damages obtained by performing spectral fatigue analysis were identified under new loading conditions. As a result, it was found that the variation of cargo weight distribution in the container ship brought about changes in the hull girder loads and fatigue damage by affecting the hull girder stress.

Damage Tolerance Analysis Using Surrogate Model (근사모델을 사용한 손상허용해석)

  • The damage tolerance analysis is required to guarantee the structural safety and the reliability for aircraft components. The damage tolerance method, which evaluate the life considering the initial crack, considers a fatigue design model of the aircraft main structure. The fatigue crack growth life should be calculated in damage tolerance analysis and the inspection time to define the replacement cycle. In this paper, the damage tolerance analysis is performed for a turbine wheel which has complex geometry. The equation of the stress intensity factor for complex geometry is hard to know, so that they are usually processed by finite element analysis which takes long time. To solve this problem, the stress intensity factors at specified crack are obtained by the FEA and the crack growth life is evaluated using the surrogate model which is generated by the regression analysis of the FEA data. From the results, the efficiency of the crack growth life calculation and the damage tolerance analysis could be increased by taking the surrogate model.

  • Recently, the offshore structures are increasingly constructed to explore the natural resources. These offshore structures are to be designed to resist the repetitive wave forces. A probabilistic method for the fatigue analysis of offshore concrete structures is presented in this study. The present spectral fatigue analysis calculates wave forces first and then the transfer functions for unit waves from which stress spectra are determined. The calculated fatigue stresses may then be used to evaluate the fatigue damage of concrete structures. A simplified model for the estimation of fatigue damage of the structures, which employs only the probabilistic moments of the peak stress distribution without direct integration, is also proposed. The present study allows more realistic fatigue analysis of offshore concrete structures.

Fatigue Analysis for Transportation of Harmony Jacket (하모니 자켓 운송을 위한 피로 해석)

  • 지금까지 건조된 jacket 중에서 가장 큰 것으로 알려진 미국 Exxon사의 Harmony jacket 이 현재 현대 중공업에 의해 제작되고 있다. Harmony jacket은 제작완료 후 울산으로부터 미국 California서안의 Santaynez해역으로 운송될 예정인데, 이와 같이 긴 해상운송시에 jacket과 seafasening 부재들은 피로에 의하여 상당히 손상을 입을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 두가지의 가능한 운송항로에 대해, jacket과 tie-down 부재가 받는 피로에 의한 손상정도를 계산하고 그 결과를 비교 하였다. 몇 가지 가정하에 행하여진 해석 결과에 따르면, 피로에 의한 손상을 적게 주는 운송항로는 Hawaii를 경유하는 남쪽할로이며, 운송 barge와 인접하는 부분, 특히 barge 양단 부근의 jacket joint들이 손상을 받기 쉽다는 것을 알 수 있다.

  • Several damage counting methods can be applied for the fatigue issues of a ground vehicle system using strain data and acceleration data is partially used for a high cyclic loading case. For a vibration test, acceleration data is, however, more useful than strain one owing to the good nature of signal-to-random ratio at acceleration response. The test severity can be judged by the fatigue damage and the pseudo-damage from the acceleration response stated in ISO-16750-3 is one of sound solutions for the vibration test. The comparison of fatigue damages, derived from both acceleration and strain, are analyzed in this study to determine the best choice of fatigue damage over multi-spectral input pattern. Uniaxial excitation test was conducted for a notched simple specimen and response data, both acceleration and strain, are used for the comparison of fatigue damages.

  • In this study, as a part of the aging aircraft performance improvement project for which no design information is provided, a new type of blade antenna is installed on the main part of the aging aircraft, and the method of proving the fatigue life of the main part of the aircraft is reviewed and summarized. There are various methods to prove fatigue life according to the manufacturer and aircraft design conditions. The fatigue life prediction and damage tolerance range of the relevant site were obtained through related regulations and industry examples. From these results, the fatigue life of newly installed antennas around the main parts of the aging aircraft was evaluated and the maintenance period and criteria were set according to the damage tolerance.

Fatigue Strength Evaluation of Bogie Frame of Urban Maglev Train (도시형 자기부상열차 대차 프레임의 피로강도 평가)

  • This study evaluated the fatigue strength of the bogie frame of an urban maglev train through fatigue analysis, cumulative damage, and fatigue tests based on a proposed fatigue evaluation method. The results of FEM analysis in which various load combinations were adopted showed that all data were under the fatigue limit of a butt welded joint made of A6005 in a Goodman diagram. The cumulative fatigue damage was calculated at the highest level from a bolt connecting the area of the electromagnetic pole in the casting block; however, the total sum was evaluated as D=0.808 based on $1{\times}10^7$ cycles, which indicates that it did not exceed the failure criteria. In addition, the results of the fatigue testshowed that there was no crack at any position in the bogie frame, which corresponded to the results of fatigue analyses.

Fatigue Damage of Quasi-Isotropic Composite Laminates (의사등방성 복합재 적층판의 피로손상)

  • In this study, when the applied directions of tensile loading is changed fatigue damage of quasi-isotropic composite laminates was discussed. Low cycle fatigue tests of $[0/-60/+60]_s$ laminates and $[+30/-30/90]_s$ laminates were carried out. Material systems used were AS4/Epoxy and AS4/PEEK. The fatigue damage of $[+30/-30/90]_s$ laminates differed from that of $[0/-60/+60]_s$ laminates. The position of delamination generated at AS4/Epoxy and AS4/PEEK $[+30/-30/90]_s$ laminates appeared differently according to the kind of matrix. Critical values of strain energy release rate were obtained by using the strain measured at the initiation of delamination. The experimental results agreed well with the results obtained by the proposed method for determining strain energy release rate.

  • 과적차량의 통행에 의한 교량구조물의 손상도를 평가하는 방법의 개발이 매우 활발하다. 본 연구에서는 과거 15년동안 통행한 교통데이타를 분석하고, 이 데이타를 근거로 교량의 손상도를 분석한다. 차량의 분류는 4종으로 대표하여 차량하중을 분석하였으며 해석시에는 이를 대표하는 2종을 사용하였다. 3차원해석을 통하여 구한 영향면을 이용하여 부재력을 계산하고 이를 이용하여 등가응력범위를 구한다. 이 결과는 모형실험을 통하여 구한 피로결과와 비교하였다. 분석결과 설계하중을 초과하는 과적차량이 교량에 미치는 손상정도는 적은 통행빈도에도 불구하고 매우 큼을 알 수 있고, 이러한 실제교통량의 분석을 통한 교량의 손상평가방법은 과적차량에 의한 교량손상정도를 유용하게 평가할 수 있다.

  • 풍력발전에 사용하는 풍력터빈의 블레이드의 적어도 20년 이상의 설계수명이 요구된단. 블레이드는 바람에 의한 압력, 지지대 구조에 의해서 가해지는 힘과 모멘트에 의해 블레이드에 변형이 가해진다. 특히 바람에 의해 블레이드는 연속적인 하중을 받아서 재료를 손상시킨다. 본 연구에서는 블레이드와 허브로 구성된 모델을 이용하여, 전산유체해석을 일차적으로 수행하여 블레이드 주변의 압력분포를 구하였다. 계산된 압력을 이용하여 다음 단계로 유한요소해석을 수행하여 블레이드 재료에 발생하는 응력을 계산하여 피로해석을 수행하였다. 피로해석을 통해 재료에 미치는 손상률을 구하였다. 다양한 블레이드 피치 각도과 바람의 속도에 따라 해석결과를 비료 분석하였다.
