  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. Therefore, the effects of compressive residual stress by shot-peening which is method to improve fatigue lift of spring steel (JISG SUP-9), which used in suspension of automobile, on fatigue crack growth characteristics was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. So, we can obtain followings 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

쇼트 피닝의 압력변화에 따른 A7075-T651재의 VHCF 피로특성 (VHCF Characteristics of A7075-T651 under Pressure Variation by Shot Peening Treatment)

  • In this paper, the fatigue characteristics of shot peened A7075-T651 alloy were compared with those of the specimens without the shot peening. The multi-spindle and single-spindle rotating bending fatigue testing machines were employed for the evaluation. Shot peening (SP) with various pressure (5 psi, 10 psi, 15 psi, 25 psi and 35 psi) were used in this test. In order to investigate the effect of the applied pressure during the SP, we carried out the surface roughness test, compressive residual stress test, hardness test, tensile test, VHCF (Very high cycle fatigue) test and SEM observation. SP induced the formation of remarkable compressive residual stress from the surface to certain depth of sample by means of the plastic deformation. The surface hardness and the fatigue characteristics of the specimens were also modified by the SP. According to the S-N curves, fatigue lives of shot peended sample with 25 psi measures 50 times higher than that of the untreated sample. The fatigue lives of shot peened sample with 15 psi and 35 psi measure approximately 10 times higher than that of the untreated ones.

  • Recently, the steel parts used at the aerospace and automobile industries are required to be used light weight parts. Therefore, used material, steel have to be a high stress, which is an indispensable condition in this field. At the consideration of parts design, high hardness of the lightweight parts have an benefit of saving fuel and material. A high stress of metal has a point of difference according to the shape of design, external cyclic load and condition of vibration. A crack generates on the surface of metal or under yield stress by defect of inner metal defect or surface defect and slowly, this crack grow stable growth. Finally, rapidity failure phenomena is happen. Fatigue failure_phenomena, which happen in metal, bring on danger in human life and property therefor, anti-fatigue failure technology take an important part of current industries Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel and improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore, this paper investigated the effect on frcature toughness using shot peening which is improve the resistance of crack growth and crack expansion rate by fatigue that make a compressive residual stress on surface.

The shot-peening method is used in order to improve the fatigue life of spring steel(JIS G SUP-9) which is used in suspension of automobile. The compressive residual is induced in this shot-peening process. This paper investigated the effect of the residual compressive stress on the fatigue crack growth characteristics. Main results are summarized as follows. 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the level of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, it does not improve the fatigue life comparing when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of shot peening on the fatigue strength and fatigue life of two kinds of aluminum alloys. The fatigue strength behavior of aluminum alloys were estimated by the stress ratio and shot velocities. The fatigue life and strength increased with increasing the test shot velocity. However, at the shot velocity range between 50m/s and 70m/s, the compressive residual stress phenomena were observed in test conditions of different shot velocity. The optimal shot velocity is acquired by considering the peak values of the compressive residual stress, dislocations, brittle striation, slip, and fisheye on the fracture surface of test specimen. It was observed from the SEM observation on the deformed specimen that the brittle striation, fisheye were showed in the intergranular fracture structure boundaries at the this velocities. Therefore, fatigue strength and fatigue life would be considered that shot velocity has close relationship with the compressive residual stress.

  • In this paper, the effect of the compressive residual stresses which were obtained under the various shot velocities of shot balls on the fatigue behaviors of a spring steel, were investigated. The examination of CT specimen test were executed with the materials(JISG SUP9) which are being commonly used for the springs of automotive vehicles. As a result, the optimal shot velocity of shot balls were acquired considering the peak values of the compressive residual stresses on the surface of specimen and effect on the speed of the fatigue crack propagation da/dN in stage II and the threshold stress intensity factor range Δ$K_{th}$ in stage I. Also the material constant C and the crack propagation index m in the formula of paris law da/dN= C $({\Delta}K^m)$ were suggested in this work to estimate the dependency on the shot velocity.

  • The compressive residual stress due to shot peening process can increase the intrinsic fatigue strength of surface and therefore would be beneficial in reducing the probability of fatigue damage. However, it was not known that the effect of shot peening on corrosion environment. In this study, the influence of shot peening and corrosion condition on corrosion property was investigated on immersed in 3.5% NaCl, 10% $HNO_3$+3% HF, 6% $FeCl_3$. The immersion test was performed with two kind of specimens. The immersion test periods were carried out on performed 360days. Corrosion potential and weight loss were investigated from experimental results. From these results, the effect of shot peening on the corrosion characteristics was evaluated.

저가 준결정질 붕소 분말의 밀링 및 탄소 도핑 처리에 따른 $MgB_2$ 초전도 임계전류밀도의 향상

  • 39 K의 임계온도를 갖는 $MgB_2$ 초전도체를 이용한 전력에너지와 MRI 의료 기기로의 응용 가능성이 높아지고 있다. $MgB_2$ 초전도체 제조에 있어서 마그네슘과 반응성이 좋은 비정질의 붕소 원료 분말 가격이 비싼 반면 상대적으로 경제적인 결정질 분말의 기계적 밀링 공정을 이용하여 비정질화와 나노 입자로의 크기 감소 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 또한 탄소를 이용한 붕소 치환으로부터 고 자기장하에서 초전도 임계 성질을 향상시키고자 유, 무기물 형태의 여러 가지 탄소 소스를 개발하는 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 저가의 95~97% 순도, 약 1 ${\mu}m$ 이하 크기를 갖는 준결정상의 붕소 분말을 이용하여 기계적 밀링에 따른 붕소 분말의 비정질화 및 입자 나노화, $MgB_2$ 반응성 향상, $MgB_2$ 결정립 크기 감소 및 결정립계 피닝 증가에 의한 초전도 임계 물성 향상에 대하여 알아보았다. 또한 여러 시간 동안 밀링된 각 붕소 분말에 액체 글리세린을 이용한 탄소 도핑 전처리를 통하여 밀링 시간의 최적화를 알아보았고 이로부터 제조된 $MgB_2$ 초전도 벌크의 경우 적절한 임계온도 감소, 격자 왜곡 결함과 높은 결정립계 밀도 등에 의한 플럭스 피닝 향상으로 $MgB_2$ 초전도체의 임계전류밀도 및 비가역자기장이 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 경제성 있는 저급의 준결정상을 갖는 붕소 원료 분말의 입자 비정질 나노화 및 탄소 도핑 전처리를 통하여 $MgB_2$ 초전도 임계 물성을 향상시킬 수 있었다.

  • The development of new materials that are light-weight, yet high in strength has become vital to the machinery, aircraft and auto industries. However, there are a lot of problems with developing such materials that require expensive tools, and a great deal of time and effort. Therefore, the improvement of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. The fatigue crack growth rate of the Shot-peened material was lower than that of the Un-peened material. And in stage I, threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts unlike the Un-peened material. Also, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the Shot-peened material was higher than that of the Un-peened material. That is concluded from effect of da/dN. And Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Shot-peened material than in the Un-peened material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peen processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation.

A17075-T6 시편의 절삭이송속도와 쇼트피닝 유무에 따른 피로수명 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Feedrate and Shotpeening on the Fatigue Life of A17075-T6 Specimens)

  • This paper presents a study on the effects of feedrate and shotpeening on the fatigue life of A17075-T6 specimens. For this purpose, six groups of specimens, each of which consists of eight specimens, were first machined at six different feedrates(0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30mm/rev). Half of eight specimens in each group were then peened and the others remained un-peened. Then, the fatigue life was measured by using 4-point rotatry bending machine. One observation was that the fast the feedrate was, the large the diameter of a specimen was. To make sure that the bending stress was the same in all cases, different loading conditions were thus applied to specimens based on their diameters. Next, comparison of fatigue life among twelve sets of specimens(six groups times two sets, peened and un-peened) was performed. Finally, based on machining cost analysis, a guideline for optimal feedrate was presented.
