A floating dock is the main facility for launching ships. In the early 2000s, ship-launching technology using floating docks was developed in Korea. Therefore, the opportunity to participate in new construction projects without investment in dry docks has expanded. In this paper, a basic calculation for the safe mooring of a floating dock was performed, and a mooring system was designed based on this. This study was conducted considering the typhoon situation, which is the most serious environmental requirements of Daebul Pier, a site to be installed and operated, for a floating dock. The design load was calculated by wind load, tidal load, and wave-induced load in accordance with the internationally accepted standards. After performing the initial arrangement of the mooring line of the floating dock using the existing mooring facilities of Daebul Pier, the minimum breaking load for each mooring line was calculated for the given load. Based on the calculation, the mooring arrangement was modified to minimize the breaking load, and a final specification of each mooring line was selected.
Since the shipbuilding industry is at its peak to assimilate the large volume of orders in recent years, the Floating Dock has been an alternative to the dry dock which takes a certain period of time to build. Hence the use of Floating Dock is steadily increasing. Since the Skid Launching System(SLS) is used in Floating Dock, the balancing of the ship while launching is important and achieved by adjusting the Ballast tank of the Floating Dock. In this paper a Floating Dock Control Simulator for SLS is developed through the on-line interface of VRC(Valve Remote Control), Tank Level & Draft Measuring System and Valve Control algorithm on Simulation Tank Plan.

Due to its nature the manufacturing industry faces a cyclical economy, and therefore there is an urgent need for a companion industry to cope with this cyclic pattern in the long run. The sector suitable for meeting this demand is the repair and shipbuilding industry. In order to operate a shipbuilding repair business, a floating dock is indispensable, and most obsolete floating docks were imported from overseas and operated through repair/maintenance. However, there is no precise guideline for floating dock safety, and most models have been in use for at least 30 years without being required to enter classification at the time of operation. In this study, structural strength analysis was carried out using measured thickness information of aged floating docks, and the residual structural strength of floating docks in operation was analyzed. The main results derived from this study can be referred to as guidelines for the review of the structural safety of similar equipment, and it is expected that an optimal solution will be found within a short time using this method for repair/maintenance.
The authors had consisted the construction of shipyard must be investigated under the consideration of long term ship's demand and so the Floating Dock might be an alternative to the dry dock. This paper shows a development of Floating Dock Controller for Skid Launching System(SLS). While loading out a block to the Floating Dock and launching ship from the Floating Dock, the balancing of the ship and the dock is very important and achieved by adjusting the Ballast tank of the Floating Dock In this paper a Floating Dock Controller for SLS was developed through the on-line interface of VRC(Valve Remote Control), Tank Level & Draft Measuring System and Valve Control algorithm on Tank Plan. The control system developed was applied to a shipbuilding and verified good and stable.

In the ship repair market, interest in maintenance and repair is steadily increasing due to the reinforcement of prevention of environmental pollution caused by ships and the reinforcement of safety standards for ship structures. By reflecting this effect, the number of requests for repairs by foreign shipping companies increases to repair shipbuilders in the Southwest Sea. However, because most of the repair shipbuilders in the southwestern area are small and medium-sized companies, it is difficult to lead to the integrated synergy effect of the repair shipbuilding companies. Moreover, the infrastructure is not integrated; hence, using the infrastructure jointly is a challenge, which acts as an obstacle to the activation of the repair shipbuilding industry. Floating docks are indispensable to operating the repair shipbuilding business; in addition, most of them are operated through renovation/repair after importing aging caisson docks from overseas. However, their service life is more than 30 years; additionally, there is no structure inspection standard. Therefore, it is vulnerable to the safety field. In this study, the finite element analysis program of ANSYS was used to evaluate the structural safety of the modified caisson dock and obtain additional structural reinforcement schemes to solve the derived problems. For the floating docks, there are classification regulations; however, concerning structural strength, the regulations are insufficient, and the applicability is inferior. These insufficient evaluation areas were supplemented through a detailed structural FE-analysis. The reinforcement plan was decided by reinforcing the pontoon deck and reinforcement of the side tank, considering the characteristics of the repair shipyard condition. The final plan was selected to reinforce the side wing tank through the structural analysis of the decision; in addition, the actual structure was fabricated to reflect the reinforcement plan. Our results can be used as reference data for improving the structural strength of similar facilities; we believe that the optimal solution can be found quickly if this method is used during renovation/repair.

Mooring stability of floating dock for construction of Ichthys CPF (central processing facilities), an ultra large offshore structure, was studied. Normal and typhoon conditions were considered for mooring analysis. There have been changes in construction stages of the CPF as project progresses. These changes were reflected on the mooring stability analysis for both conditions. In order to secure the mooring stability of the floating dock for Ichthys CPF under typhoon, maximum loads of mooring chains and maximum offset of the floating dock with Ichthys CPF were examined. Also the shapes of the catenary mooring were investigated to check interferences among mooring chains. As it was confirmed that the mooring loads were within SWL (safe working load) of mooring chains and underwater sinkers, the mooring stability of the floating dock for construction of Ichthys CPF was secured. By achieving security of mooring stability of the floating dock, it is assured that Ichthys project is on its way to success.

The paper was investigated on the mooring forces(or tension) and motion response characteristics for a 8-point mooring floating dock in regular waves using a commercial code(AQWA). To achieve the aim of the research, a numerical simulation was adapted on an inner port environment condition, which the water depth is 10 meters, significant wave amplitude(1.05 m). wave period(3.85 sec), wind speed(20.21 m/s), wind and current direction ($90^{\circ}$), incident waves(${\chi}=180^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$). The dimension of the numerical model is length(140 m), breadth(32 m), depth(14.6 m). The maximum length of a mooring line is 120m. We can expected that roll and pitch motions appeared in beam seas better than head sea. the mooring forces also indicated higher in bean seas than in head seas including wind forces.

In most shipyards Floating Dock-gate System is adapted for dry docks. For the safe launching of ships in dry docks, smooth operation of dock-gate must be guaranteed. So it is very important to grasp its behavior in waves for securing the high productivity and the safety of workers. Its seakeeping ability was estimated numerically at the floating conditions and the free roll decay and the seakeeping model tests of dock-gate was carried out with bilge-keels of 3 different widths which have a scale of 1 to 20. More than 20% decrease of roll motion was observed in irregular beam seas by applying a bilge-keel system to the dock-gate that is long and narrow.

In recent years, the repairing work of the small boats in dock have pointed out a defects of the many FRP shipbuiling because of a term of works and working-space and man-power. In the paper, By carried out the model tests and structure analysis of the floating dock were mainly drawing on the concept design of the floating dock systems that the above defects were solved.
As the demands of ocean resource development increase, many offshore structures are required. To cope with the active ocean developments, many types of construction methods have been applied for offshore facilities, including oil, gas and harbors. One of the challenges is to transport and install the heave bridge caisson. Several construction methods are well understood. However, for the sake of safety and reliability, the F/D installation method can be utilized. While the caisson is carried by an F/D, the mooring force of the tug boat and the structure stability from exiting motions in the dock should be checked against external loadings and sea conditions. The external loads can be classified with wind force, current force, and wave force. In the stability analysis, transportation velocity and draft of F/D are important factors. The dynamic stability and hook load for crane barge installation for the same caisson are also studied. Considering external loads and dominant factors, the stability of caisson during transportation has been investigated.
