Design and Implementation of the Mobile Flash for Flash Game on Mobile Terminals (휴대 단말기에서 플래시 게임을 위한 Mobile Flash의 설계 및 구현)

  • As an improvement of the CPU performance of mobile terminals and an increase of user requirements for multimedia services, various multimedia services and applications have been developed and served over mobile platforms. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the Mobile Flash which is one of the famous services in mobile platforms with the limitation of hardware resources. The Mobile flash is an optimized solution for mobile terminals of the Flash, which has been used in the Internet browsers not less than 95% in the world for playing various types of contents such as animations, games, contents for education, e-commerce.

FlaSim: A FTL Emulator using Linux Kernel Modules (FlaSim: 리눅스 커널 모듈을 이용한 FTL 에뮬레이터)

  • Many researchers have studied flash memory in order to replace hard disk storages. Many FTL algorithms have been proposed to overcome physical constraints of flash memory such as erase-before-write, wear leveling, and poor write performance. Therefore, these constraints should be considered for testing FTL algorithms and the performance evaluation of flash memory. As doing the experiments, we suffer from several problems with costs and settings in experimental configuration. When we, for example, replay the traces of Oracle to evaluate the I/O performance with flash memory, it is hard to extract exact traces of I/O operations in Oracle. Since there are only write operations in the log, it is impossible to gather read operations. In MySQL and SQLite, we can gather the read operations by changing I/O functions in the source codes. But it is not easy to search for the exact points about I/O and even if we can find out the points, we might get wrong results depending on how we modify source codes to get I/O traces. The FlaSim proposed in this paper removes the difficulties when we evaluate the performance of FTL algorithms and flash memory. Our Linux drivers emulate the flash memory as a hard disk. And we can easily obtain the usage statistics of flash memory such as the number of write, read, and erase operations. The FlaSim can be gracefully extended to support the additional modules implemented by novel algorithms and ideas. In this paper, we describe the structure of FTL emulator, development tools and operating methods. We expect this emulator to be helpful for many experiments and research with flash memory.

  • 우리가 사용하는 이미지뷰어프로그램은 정보전달에만 치중되어 있고 감성적인 부분이 차지하는 바가 적다. 또한 사람들에게 디지털카메라로 찍은 사진들을 보는 것은 많은 과정을 필요로 하고 큰 노력을 요한다. 게다가 다른 사용자들과 즉각적으로 공유하기도 힘들다. 이 같은 문제점들을 해결하는 새로운 이미지뷰어인터페이스를 제안해본다. 기존의 이미지뷰어프로그램들을 분석하고 그에 대한 결과와 문제점을 찾은 후 새로운 디자인 키워드를 제시하였다. 단순함(Simplicity), 즉각성(Instancy), 공유(Sharing), 감성(Sensitivity) 이렇게 네 가지 키워드이다. 사진(Picture)은 이미 지나간 과거이다. 이러한 사진의 시간개념을 Timeline 에 적용하고, 이를 원(Circle)이라는 모양으로 나타내어 사진을 볼 수 있게 하였다. 원이라는 새로운 형태의 인터페이스는 사진을 보다 쉽고 즉각적으로 공유할 수 있다. 데모버젼으로서 매크로미디어 플래시 액션스크립트로 프로그램을 하고 파워메이트(Powermate)를 장치(Device)로 사용하여 시연하였다. 이 인터페이스는 사람들이 쉽게 접할 수 있는 장소면 아무 곳이나 설치가 가능하다. 카페나 회의장소에서 가장 적합하게 어울릴 것이다. 사용자는 다른 이들과 함께 즉각적으로 간단한 방법으로 함께 감성을 나눌 수 있다. 새로운 인터페이스디자인이 사람들에게 쉽게 인지되어, 보다 편리하게 이미지를 확인할 수 있는 가능성을 제시한다.

An Efficient Cleaning Scheme for File Defragmentation on Log-Structured File System (로그 구조 파일 시스템의 파일 단편화 해소를 위한 클리닝 기법)

  • When many processes issue write operations alternately on Log-structured File System (LFS), the created files can be fragmented on the file system layer although LFS sequentially allocates new blocks of each process. Unfortunately, this file fragmentation degrades read performance because it increases the number of block I/Os. Additionally, read-ahead operations which increase the number of data to request at a time exacerbates the performance degradation. In this paper, we suggest a new cleaning method on LFS that minimizes file fragmentation. During a cleaning process of LFS, our method sorts valid data blocks by inode numbers before copying the valid blocks to a new segment. This sorting re-locates fragmented blocks contiguously. Our cleaning method experimentally eliminates 60% of file fragmentation as compared to file fragmentation before cleaning. Consequently, our cleaning method improves sequential read throughput by 21% when read-ahead is applied.

  • The object of this study is to find ways of a creation and an usage of cultural contents, based on the survey of the culture archetype facts, the culture elements and the narrative structure of 'Geotagi folk tale'. This story takes its place as our cultural archetype, because of its perfect narrative structure and the myth-like features in the story line. Additionally, various cultural elements implied in the text have the world wide universality as well as the unique traditional characters of Korea. Thus, for above reason, 'Geotagi folk tale' can be helpful in creating the new cultural contents. In creating and using the cultural contents of 'Geotagi folk tale', the first way is to build up the Digital contents including the data base of the original text and others, and the creation of graphics. The second way is to create the story bank utilizing hypertext. The third way is to make flash animations or games concerning the folk tale. and the fourth way is to to develop the symbols of the folk tale as animation characters.

  • The Hong Kong film "Project Gutenberg" has obtained the great achievements at the box office and public reputation due to such multiple factors as realistic counterfeit banknote production process, breathtaking gunfight scenes, brain-burning plot, unexpected reversal ending, personal charm of Chow Yun-Fat and so on. In terms of film narrative, the director utilized the narrator, Li Wen, to guide the police and audience in the limited angle of perspective into the scheme, and make the symbolic meaning image of the actor Chow Yun-Fat stengthen the audience's confirmation for the imagination of "painter", with the introduction of multiple narratives and flashback of different characters and scenes, and then finally, used the narrative structure with multiple lines and layers to uncover the truth. There are three great reversals in the film, each of which is overthrow for the film plot, and every overthrow is a disavowal of the audience's cognition for the previous story; therefore it brings the greatly emotional tension, making the audience get complete release and relief in the process of the psychological game of cognition, identification and decision-making at the end.

  • The development of the Internet in the 21st century had made a variety of cross-cultural environment so that animations also have evolved with new features to Web-Animation. In Korea, the web-based flash animation leap forward to the animation Utopia in the early 2000's, but did not last long. The web-based animations should attract audience's attention not only with it's minimum streaming capacity but also with showing it's best qualities as well, Therefore, the stimulating narrative strategies were mandatories for web-animation in 2000's. The absence of in-depth research on media, poor revenue structure, and the emergence of mobile games and e-learning industries made the web-animation become just a one-time/one-consumable content. There were no subsequent generation of korean web-animation ever since. In this study, I want to introduce and analyze the american web animation series, (2005) as a new type of web-animation in current digital culture, In particular, I want to discuss how this web animation appeal to the audience with its narrative strategies through using some aspect of the internet culture which's differentiated from traditional media based cultures. This research could suggest diverse narrative strategies for the future web-animation with new vision. Moreover, This also allows to look at latest web-animation trends and its new experiments.
