Tendency of PVD coating technology on Metal cutting tools (금속 절삭공구에 대한 PVD 코팅기술의 동향)

  • Industrial use of physical vapor deposition(PVD) has been widely expanded during last two decades, and in the mean time plasma assistance in PVD has become an essential tool in preparing compound films with dense microstructure. The principles of electron beam-based plating, balanced and unbalanced magnetron sputtering and cathodic arc deposition. consisting three basic configuration of plasma assisted PVD(PAPVD)process, were reviewed. Recent technical development in PVD coating process were discussed. This paper tries to show tendency for developing new coating film on cutting tools.

  • 고체윤활제는 고온부품의 응용에 매우 적합한 소재이다. 세라믹스를 기반으로 하는 고온저마찰소재는 우주항공, 발전시설 등과 같은 다양한 분야에서 매우 중요하다. 본 연구는 고온저마찰 소재를 가지는 자기윤활 Al2O3ZrO2 세라믹 복합 코팅층의 마찰마모거동에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 이 자기윤활 Al2O3ZrO2 세라믹 복합 코팅층은 대기플라즈마 용사법으로 제작하였으며, 비윤활상태에서 마찰마모거동을 조사하였다.

Friction and Wear at Ceramic Coated Surfaces of Aluminum Alloy (알루미늄 합금표면에 코팅된 세라믹재의 마찰마멸 특성)

  • Friction and wear at ceramic coated surfaces of aluminum alloy were experimentally studied using a Ring-on-Block wear test machine. Ceramic materials coated on aluminum alloy surfaces were WC, CrC, Al2O3 by a plasma spray; and Al2O3,Al2SiO5, Na2B4O7,Na4P2O7, and Al2O3ZrO2 composite coating by an Anodic Spark Depositon. They were tested under the sliding wet contact and compared with aluminum alloys and steels. Test results showed that ceramic coated surfaces, in general, have better anti-wear property than those of aluminum alloys due to increase in the surface hardness ; however, they also showed higher coefficients of friction and changes in wear mechanisms, resulting in brittle fractures.

  • This paper was to investigate of a adhesiveness for the plasma sprayed coating materials did salt spray by acoustic emission method in tensile loadings. The powders used for the coating were nickel aluminum composite powder Ni-4,5wt.%Al and titanium dioxide powder Ti02. These powders were coated on a carbon steel S45C by plasma spray method. The salt solution was a 5% NaCl and the salt spray times were 2, 5 and 10 hours respectively. The salt solution penetrated into the surface of the substrate through pore of the coating layer built in the process of plasma spay. Corrosion productions formed on the surface of substrate. The adhesiveness between the substrate and the coating layer is weaken by corrosion and the exfoliation initiated chiefly at the corrosion surface of the substrate. The AE events and energy of the corroded coating specimens decreased as the salt spray times increased.

Fabrication and Microstructure of Hydroxyapatite Coating Layer by Plasma Spraying (플라즈마 용사법에 의한 Hydroxyapatite코팅층의 제조와 미세구조)

  • The microstructure of nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders coating layer on ZrO2 substrate was investigated, which was formed by plasma spray process. The nano-sized HAp powders were successfully synthesized by precipitation of Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and (NH4)2HPO4 solution. The HAp coating layer with thickness of 150∼250 μm was free from the cracks at interfaces between the coating and ZrO2 substrate. In the plasma sprayed HAp coating layer, the undesirable phases were not found, while in the HAp coating layer heat-treated at 800C, TTCP, and β-TCP phase were detected as well as HAp phase. However, at 900C, they were completely disappeared. At 1100C, XRD analysis revealed that the coating layer was composed of the highly crystallized HAp.

표면 분석법을 이용한 플라즈마에서의 보론박막 두께 측정

  • 핵융합로에서 챔버 벽면의 보호와 입자 문제를 해결하기 위해 최근 챔버 벽면의 보론 박막 코팅에 대한 연구가 활발히 연구 중이다. 핵융합로 운전 시 챔버 벽면 부근의 플라즈마는 저온 플라즈마와 상태가 비슷해 저온 플라즈마에서의 표면분석 기술을 적용할 수 있다. 이를 이용해 보론이 증착된 벽면의 상태를 실시간으로 관찰할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이에 앞서 저온 플라즈마에서 보론이 증착된 시편을 가지고 두께를 측정해 보았다. 증착 시편의 훼손된 부분은 보정법을 이용하여 보정하였다. 측정 결과 보정 전에는 시편마다 많은 차이를 보였지만 보정 후에는 거의 일정한 결과를 얻었으며 광학적 방법에 의해 측정한 두께와도 비슷한 결과를 얻었다. 저온 플라즈마 실험 결과 보론 박막 측정에 대한 신뢰성을 확인하였으며 이를 바탕으로 KSTAR의 벽면 진단에 적용함으로써 핵융합 플라즈마의 불안정성을 간접적으로 측정할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다.

Development of CNT Coating Process using Argon Atmospheric Plasma (아르곤 상압플라즈마를 이용한 CNT 코팅 공정 기술 개발)

  • In this paper, a simple method of forming a solution-based carbon nanotube (CNT) for use as a conductive material for electronic devices was studied. The CNT thin film coating was performed on the glass by applying the spin coating method and the argon atmospheric pressure plasma process. In order to observe changes in electrical and physical properties according to the number of coatings, samples formed in the same manner from times 1 to 5 were prepared, and surface shape, reflectance, transmittance, absorbance, and sheet resistance were measured for each sample. As the number of coatings increased, the transmittance decreased, and the reflectance and absorptivity increased in the entire measurement wavelength range. Also, as the wavelength decreases, the transmittance decreases, and the reflectance and absorption increase. In the case of electrical properties, it was confirmed that the conductivity was significantly improved when the second coating was applied. In conclusion, in order to replace CNT with a transparent electrode, it is necessary to consider the number of coatings in consideration of reflectivity and electrical conductivity together, and it can be seen that 2 times is optimal.

  • 플라즈마 전해 산화(Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation, PEO)는 Al, Ti, Mg 합금과 같은 경량 금속소재에 대한 표면처리기술로서 주목을 받고 있다. PEO 처리에 의해 표면에 치밀하게 형성되는 세라믹 산화층은 우수한 내식성, 내마모성을 보유하기 때문에, 이와 같은 특성이 요구되는 분야에 적용하기 위한 연구가 활발하다. 특히 PEO 세라믹 코팅층의 응착마모(adhesive wear)와 절삭마모(abrasive wear)에 관한 연구는 상당부분 이루어지고 있으나, 캐비테이션 침식과 같은 침식마모(erosive wear) 특성에 관한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 알루미늄 합금 소지에 제작된 PEO 코팅층의 캐비테이션 손상 특성을 고찰하였으며, 전해액 조성이 PEO 코팅층의 미세조직과 캐비테이션 손상 특성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. PEO 처리를 위해 사용된 소재는 상용 5083-O합금 판재로서 2cm×2cm로 절단하여, 에머리페이퍼로 1000번까지 연마하여 사용하였다. 사용된 전해액은 증류수에 KOH(1 g/L)을 base로 하여 Na2SiO3(2 g/L)의 첨가유무를 변수로 하였다. 시편을 양극으로 하고 STS304를 음극으로 하여 각각 DC 전원 공급기의 +극과 -극에 연결하였으며, 정전류 조건에서 30분간 0.1A/cm2의 전류밀도를 인가하였다. PEO 처리후 시편은 SEM, EDS, XRD를 이용하여 표면 특성 평가를 실시하였다. PEO코팅층의 캐비테이션 특성 평가는 초음파 진동식 캐비테이션 발생 장치를 이용하였으며, 캐비테이션 실험 후 시간에 따른 표면 거칠기의 변화 거동을 분석하였다.

A Study on the Life Enhancement of TiN Coated Drill (TiN 박막을 코팅한 드릴의 수명향상에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, various film coated insert tools have been used in order to improve tool life by several different vapor deposition or chemical vapor deposition. Especially, TiN coated drills have been broadly studied because of improving drill performance in terms of drill life, work quality and its brilliant color. Nevertheless, because of the poor adhesion between TiN film and drill, it was difficult to attain the better drill performance. Therefore, to improve adhesion of TiN films, we sputtered titanium as interlayer prior to TiN deposition on drill by PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). The results indicate that Ti/TiN coated drills achieve about 2.6 times life improvement, while TiN coated drills only 2 times. Wear characteristics of tested drills were examined using SEM, and the results were correlated with drill life and roughness of drilled holes.

  • 플라즈마 공법은 표면 처리를 위한 유용한 방법으로 널리 응용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 플라즈마 화학 기상 증착법(Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, PECVD)을 이용해 기존의 폴리머 표면에 나노구조를 형성하고 그 위에 친수성을 갖는 물질을 코팅해 초친수 표면을 만들어 김서림 방지 성능을 확인하였다. 이러한 초친수성 폴리머 표면의 경우 김서림 방지 등 초친수 표면이 필요한 곳에 유용하게 사용 될 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.
