Fuzzy Controller design of fuel fired heater for vehicle to control temperature (자동차용 연소식 프리히터의 온도제어를 위한 퍼지 제어기 설계)

  • The fuzzy controller of the FFH(Fuel Fired Heater) used for vehicle is designed in this study. Two of the most important things of the pre-heater are how fast it can be at the set temperature and how to reduce the temperature deviation in the space to a minimum. The temperature deviation of the existed FFH with PI controller for temperature controller was reduced. Also, the fuzzy controller improved the response characteristics, and then the performance was inspected. When setting the temperature in this designed fuzzy controller, it took 12 minutes in the existed PI control method to reach $25^{\circ}C$. However, it took 9 minutes and 20 seconds in the fuzzy control method. Therefore, it is proved that the fuzzy controller is better than the existed one with fast response performance as 2 minutes 40 seconds. The temperature deviation was $2.4^{\circ}C$ in the existed control method but $1.6^{\circ}C$ in the designed fuzzy controller. Accordingly, the temperature deviation was improved too.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of Fin Pitch and Fin Array on the Heat Transfer Performance of a Pre-heater (휜의 피치 및 배열 방식에 따른 프리히터의 전열 성능에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a numerical study was performed to investigate the performance characteristics of a pre-heater. The effects of fin pitch and fin array type(in-line, staggered, leaned array) were reported in terms of Colburn j-factor and Fanning friction factor f, as a function of Re. Three-dimensional numerical simulation has been performed by using flow analysis program, FLUENT 13.0. The results show that Colburn j-factor decreases with the decrease of fin pitch attached in the annular tube. But the fin pitch has little effect on f-factor. The staggered array and leaned array show improved heat transfer performance compared with in-line array, so that Colburn j-factor was increased. It also shows that the f-factor of leaned array is the highest in the studied range of Reynolds number.

A Study on Optimization of Vacuum Glazing Encapsulating Process using Frit inside a Vacuum Chamber (진공챔버 내 프리트 이용 진공유리 봉지공정 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • In houses that use heating and cooling system, most of heat loss occurs through the windows, so that low-E glass, double-layered glass, and vacuum glazing are used to minimize the heat loss. In this paper, an encapsulating process that is a final process in manufacturing the vacuum glazing has been studied, and bonding in a vacuum chamber rather than atmospheric bonding was considered. For the efficiency of the encapsulating process, frit-melting temperature and bonding time were optimized with heater temperature, and the glass preheating temperature was optimized to prevent glass breakage due to thermal stress. Thus the vacuum glass was successfully manufactured based on these results and heat transmission coefficient measured was about $5.7W/m^2K$ which indicates that the internal pressure of the vacuum glazing is $10^{-2}$ torr.

Fundamental Study for Development of Pre-Heater for Warm In-Place Recycling in Korea (국내 현장중온재생공법의 프리히터 개발을 위한 기초연구)

  • PURPOSES : To design a pre-heater for warm in-place recycling equipment, three different heating systems were evaluated to determine their thermal efficiency. METHODS: In this study, a $30cm{\times}30cm{\times}15cm$ wheel-tracking specimen was used to measure the inner temperature as a function of the heating system. The inner temperature of the specimen was measured with a data logger at the surface, and at depths of 1cm, 2cm, 3cm, 4cm, and 5cm. To evaluate the thermal efficiency, the researchers used three different types of equipment, namely, IR, a heating wire, and a gas burner. RESULTS: The IR heating system exhibits a higher level of performance than the others to achieve the target temperature at a depth of 5cm in the specimen. The gas burner system was capable of heating the surface to a temperature of up to $600^{\circ}C$. The other types, however, cannot heat the surface up to 600. The thermal efficiencies were measured based on the laboratory conditions. CONCLUSIONS: To find the most effective system for application to the development of a pre-heater for warm in-place recycling, various systems (IR, heating wire, gas burner) were examined in the laboratory. As a result, it was found that the hot plate of a gas burner system provides the highest temperature at the surface of the asphalt but, of all the systems, the IR system provides the best internal temperature increase rate. Furthermore, a gas burner can age the asphalt binder of the surface layer as a result of the high temperature. However, the gas burner cannot attain the target temperature at 5cm. The IR system, on the other hand, is effective at increasing the internal temperature of asphalt.
