Research on the Surface Improvement of High Soft Ground Using Calibration Chamber Test (모형토조실험에 의한 초연약지반의 표층개량에 관한 연구)

  • Most of the soil used for reclamation is marine clay generated from dredging construction.The soft ground made of dredged clay has high water content and high compressibility, so the bearing capacity of the ground is very weak and it is difficult to enter the ground improvement equipment. Therefore, surface hardening treatment method is used to enter equipment prior to full-scale civil engineering work, and stabilizer is mainly used for cement series. Cement-based stabilizers have the advantage of improving the ground in a short period of time and have excellent economic efficiency, but they are disadvantageous in that they cause environmental problems due to leaching of heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium. In this study, environmental effects evaluation of dredged clay mixed with normal portland cement and environmentally friendly stabilizer was evaluated, and uniaxial compressive strength test and indoor model test were conducted to confirm the bearing capacity characteristics of the solidified layer.

  • The study of surface ground reinforcing method is supposed to be considered preferentially is not satisfied and also doesn't contemplate plastic flow because of repetitive drive of construction equipment. Also, Terzaghi's bearing-capacity equation and Yamanouchi's suggestion have been used to design the surface reinforcement, but most engineers depend on their experience and cases constructed before because of dispersed variables and inappropriate bearing-capacity factors. Hence, plate load test and repetitive plate load test were performed in the field which is reinforced with geotextile, Geogrid whose tensile strength are 200kN/m, 100kN/m and bamboo($0.4m{\times}0.4m$). The object of this study is to evaluate bearing capacity and behaviour of surface ground and to compare each reinforcement form test results. From the results bearing capacity ratio increased by a maximum of 1.5 times with bamboo reinforcement method comparing to others.

  • This study, as basic research which was intended to develope the surface reinforcement method using reinforcement material which is applicable to very soft ground in Korea, was aimed at proposing Bearing Capacity Evaluation method for the surface ground improvement method. To that end, a wide width tensile test using geotextile, geogrid and steel bar (substitute for bamboo) and 21 kinds of the laboratory model tests with the end restraint conditions of the reinforcement that comprises the constrained and partially constrained (3 types) conditions were conducted. According to result of tests, Terzaghi's bearing capacity method is adequate to calculate bearing capacity in non-stiff material(geotextile, geogrid). But, It can't adequate to stiff material(bamboo net). So, New bearing capacity method suggest surface reinforcement method of very soft ground which Terzaghi's bearing capacity method modify for effect of stiffness.

  • It is necessary to develop a rational design method for surface reinforcement of very soft ground because most current design works rely on merely crude empirical correlations. In this paper, the mechanical behavior of very soft ground that is surficially reinforced was investigated with the aid of a series of numerical analyses. Several material properties of each dredged soft ground, reinforcement and backfill sand mat have been exercised in the numerical analysis. The result of numerical analysis was compared with those of the laboratory model test. Through the matching process between the numerical and experimental result, it is possible to determine representative material properties of the dredged soft ground, reinforcements and backfill sand mat. These verified material properties permit to evaluate the effect of the stiffness of reinforcement and the thickness of sand mat on the overall deformation of the reinforced soft ground.

  • 국내 항만배후단지 중 최대 연약층 심도, 초연약 지반이 분포하는 부산신항 남컨테이너부두 항만배후단지 조성공사에 요구되는 지층분포 특성에 따른 연약지반개량의 표층처리 및 연직배수공법 등 제반사항을 유사사례, 시공성 및 경제성 등을 종합적으로 고려하여 제공하였다. 본 설계를 통해 연약지반개량 중 대심도 연직배수를 위한 PBD 타설 장비의 개량을 유도하였으며, 유지관리 및 대심도 연약지반에 따른 경제성을 고려한 허용잔류 침하량을 토지 용도별로 분류하여 제시하였다.

A Study on Applicability of Soil Strength for Surface Treatment (표층처리를 위한 현장의 강도적용에 관한 연구)

  • Most marine structures are constructed on very soft soil, soil improvements are needed for the area of road, buildings. In this paper, some considerations of several case studies on soil placement method after geotextile placement, known as surface treatment, are done. Considerations of strength applicability on the advanced construction method of sand and soil placement are proposed in this paper. Typical tensile strength of geotextile used in the surface soil stabilization method is 15t/m, and thickness of sand and soil placement between 1.6m and 3.1m. Undrained shear strength of soft clay layer ranges $0.2{\sim}1.2t/m^2$. In order to minimize the difficulties which include soil disturbance, soft soil gush and overturn of vertical drain installation rig more studies are needed.

To that end, a wide width tensile test using geotextile, geogrid and steel bar (substitute for bamboo) and 21 kinds of the laboratory model tests with the end restraint conditions of the reinforcement that comprises the constrained and partially constrained (3 types) conditions were conducted. Moreover, a new procedure was proposed to take into account the effect of the stiffness of Reinforce materials on bearing capacity theory of Surface Reinforcement Method for Soft Ground.

  • Recently, new development projects are being carried out with the soft ground located along the West coast and the South coast. As soft grounds have complex engineering properties that the load bearing capacity is low and high compressibility, it needs to solve this problems Prior to structures are constructed by the method of improvement of soft ground. The sand mat is usually being used for improvement of soft ground as a horizontal drain material and loading base. But, as the volume is enormous and an amount of demanded sand is increased, it is state of short in supply. This paper presents the feasibility study to use of precious slag ball instead of sand mat as the replacing material through the basic soil property tests, the medium of discharge capacity test and analysis of settlement character.
