  • The research and motor octane numbers (RON & MON, respectively) of a gasoline are dynamic measures of its quality of performance as a fuel. ASTM standard engine test methods (RON:ASTM D-2699, MON:ASTM D-2700) have been used for determining the octane numbers (RON,MON)of gasolines. But these methods have been widely criticized because their repeatability and reproducibility of the test method are very poor. In addition to these objections, the cost and operation time involved in measuring by the standard method led to searches for "non -engine" methods (Gas Chromatographic method, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopic method). In this study, we determined the carbon type structural compositions of the gasolines by $^{13}C-NMR$ spectroscopy and predicted the octane number (RON & MON) with good accuracy. we presented an assessment of the effects of molecular structural composition on octane numbers.

Source Intensity Analysis of DUPIC Fuel (DUPIC 핵연료의 조사선량률 분석)

  • Source intensities in terms of the exposure rates at 1m from the fresh and spent DUPIC fuels, made from standard and extended turnup PWR fuels, were analyzed. Two cases were studied based on the degree of elimination of removable elements. Homogeneous mixture model was applied to get the exposure rate. The exposure rate turned out to be very high and sensitive to Cs elimination during the dry process. About 90% of exposure can be reduced in the case of fresh DUPIC fuel made from 10-year cooled spent PWR fuels if Cs is fully removed during the dry process. The main radiation source in spent fuels is Cs-137. The dry storage of spent DUPIC fuel may need a longer wet storage period and require a further review.

  • The aim of this investigation was study on the non-evaporation diesel spray characteristics injected through a common-rail diesel injector under various ambient pressure. The diesel spray was investigated with observation of macroscopic characteristics such as spray tip penetration and spray cone angle by the shadowgraph and the image processing method. The numerical study was conducted using a computational fluid dynamics code, AVL-FIRE. The breakup models used were WAVE model and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was applied. The numerical study used input data which spray cone angle and fuel injection rate was achieved by Zeuch's method. Comparison with experimental result such as spray tip penetration was good agreement. Distribution of droplet diameter were conducted on four planes where the axial distances were 5, 15, 39 and 49mm respectively downstream from the orifice exit.

  • 석탄가스화복합발전(IGCC) 시스템에서 합성가스 중에 포함된 황화수소($H_2S$)는 후단의 가스 터빈과 같은 장치의 부식을 방지하고, 합성가스를 이용하는 연료전지 등의 연계 공정에서 요구하는 수준에 맞추어 정제되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 $H_2S$ 정제공정 추가에 따른 IGCC 시스템의 효율저하를 최소화하기 위하여 고온고압에서 사용가능한 탈황제를 분무건조법을 이용하여 제조하고 제조된 탈황제에 대해 물성 및 황 흡수능 시험을 실시하였다. 형상, 내마모도, 평균입자크기, 충진밀도와 함께 제조된 탈황제가 적용되는 유동층 공정에 적합한 강도를 보유하는지 여부를 미국표준시험방법에 의하여 측정하였다. 황 흡수능은 열중량분석기를 반응기로 사용하여 모사 합성 가스 분위기에서 측정하였다. 분무건조 성형된 탈황제의 일부가 구형이 아닌 타원형 또는 도넛 형태를 나타내고 있어 형상 개선을 위한 제조방법 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 제조된 탈황제는 기공도가 65% 이상으로 macropore가 기공부피의 대부분을, mesopore가 비표면적의 대부분을 제공하고 있었다. 소성온도를 650 $^{\circ}C$에서 750 $^{\circ}C$로 증가시킴에 따라 대체로 강도가 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 열중량분석기로 측정된 황 흡수능은 약 10 wt%로 나타났다. 제조된 탈황제 중 일부는 유동층 공정에 적합한 물성을 보유하고 있었으며 반응성 또한 기존에 개발된 탈황제에 버금가는 성능을 나타내어 향후 공정 적용이 가능할 것으로 분석되었다.

  • Gasohol which is the mixture of gasoline and ethanol, is used to gasoline vehicles worldwide currently. This study is performed by the methods of the review of references, and includes the background introduced, manufacturing processes, amounts produced, original properties, specifications, ways of applied currently, regulations and policies as a fuel for gasoline vehicles on individual countries through the scope of worldwide, especially focused on bioethanol and gasoline. By the reason above, it is prepared by focused on multiple angles for the person who want to getting information and searching desired ways in the future regarding to bioethanol and gasohol. It is concluded that gasohol is one of the useful renewable energies, and must to take a step forward by the approaching of multiple points, and finally showed some directions by the way of comparing of the situations and references nowaday.

A Study on the Combustion Efficiency Concept in Under-ventilated Compartment Fires (환기부족 구획화재에서 연소효율 개념에 대한 고찰)

  • A study on combustion efficiency concept was conducted for the under-ventilated fires in a fullscale ISO 9705 room. In particular, a comparison between global combustion efficiency (CE) measured outside the compartment and local CE measured at upper layer inside the compartment was focused. Heptane, toluene and iso-propanol were used to consider the wide ranges of heat of combustion and soot yield. As a result, the global CE was decreased linearly with increasing in global equivalence ratio (GER). On the other hand, the decreasing rate of local CE was increased gradually with increasing in GER. From these results, it was known that the information on local CE was very useful parameter to understand the fire phenomena inside the compartment. In addition, it was discussed that the local CE might be used as an important parameter in the process of scaling for the compartment fires.

  • As global warming and depletion of fossil fuel are considered as urgent problems, the development of electric vehicle (EV) is getting more attention by automobile industry. However, the wide adoption of EVs is not coming yet, because of many issues such as long recharging time and high cost of batteries etc. As an alternative solution to the conventional battery charging EV, the idea of battery exchanging EV is introduced. To realize the battery exchanging business model, one should solve the issues of ownership and reliability of battery. To address such issues, the concept of battery sharing should be considered together with good traceability system. In this study, we studied RFID code structure to provide better visibility and traceability for shared EV batteries. The proposed RFID code and code generation system is based on GRAI-96 of EPCglobal and included factors such as chemical, physical, and manufacturing features. The designed code can be also used as the ID of each battery.

  • In order to meet the recently enhanced emission standards at home and abroad, it is necessary to develop the CRDI ECU control algorithm that users can adjust fuel injection timing and amount in response to their needs. Therefore, this study developed the simulator for knocking analysis that enables knocking discrimination and engine balance correction applicable to the ECU exclusive to the industrial CRDI engine. The purpose of this study is to provide the driver-oriented diagnostic service that enable drivers to diagnose vehicles directly by developing diagnostic devices for vehicles with ths use of the results of the developed simulator for knocing analysis according to the OBD-II standards. For this purpose, this study aims to improve the fuel efficiency of vehicles by proposing the S/W design method of the OBD-II diagnosis device that can provide real-time communcations with the use of wired system and bluetooth module as a wireless system to send and recevice automobile fault diagnosis signal and sensor output signal, and to suggest an improvement for engine efficiency by minimizing the generation of harmful exhaust gas.

  • The increase of world's population and economic development are the keys drivers behind growing demand for energy. Especially the demand for electricity would eventually result in an increase of coal usage. Therefore ultra supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler has been developed as solutions of economic eco-friendly technologies for coal and of increasing supplies of low grade fuels. Ultra supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler has an once through type of steam cycle different from drum type in subcritical circulating fluidized bed boiler. Also, the duplication of a proven commercial module with 100-300 MWe subcritical circulating fluidized bed might be the key for design of 500~800 MWe ultra supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler. After 2017, ultra supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler might become standard model over subcritical circulating fluidized bed boiler. Therefore, this paper will help you to understand ultra super critical circulating fluidized bed (USC-CFB) through describing the background, status and prospect of the CFB technology.

Calculation of Power Distributions on Uranium- and Plutonium-Loaded Cores Moderated by Light Water (우라늄 및 플루토늄 장전 노심에서의 출력 분포 계산)

  • An analytical system has been established for scrutinizing both uranium- and plutonium-fueled lattices moderated by light water. This system consists of two primary codes. One is a unit cell program called KICC, which has theoretical foundation on the models of GAM and THERMOS incorporated with appropriate approximate treatments for various phenomena, whereas the other is a multi-dimensional diffusion-depletion program entitled KIDD. The adequacy of this system is verified by performing extensive benchmark calculations on a variety of critical experiments. The average value of effective multiplication factors for the selected nineteen UO$_2$ critical experiments of heterogeneous lattice structure is calculated to be 1.0006 with a standard deviation of 0.0039. Power distributions have also been calculated for some critical experiments fueled with both uranium and plutonium of varying concentrations. The maximum percentage difference between the measured and calculated power distributions appears to be less than 5%. This result, together with the previously reported result, illustrates that the KICC/KIDD system is a very effective tool for the analysis of a light water reactor core.
