  • Purpose: To evaluate the usefulness of the $HexaPOD^{TM}$ evo RT system(6DoF couch) and the tendency of dose difference according to size of rotational direction error for volumetric rotational modulated radiotherapy(V-MAT) in patients with long target lengths. Therefore, it is suggested to recommend the need for rotational error correction. Materials and Methods: Ten patients with Esophagus cancer or Breast cancer including SCL treated with HexaPOD 6DoF(Six-Degree of Freedom) couch were included in this study. 6DoF couch was used to measure the difference in dose according to the rotation error in the directions of Rx(pitch), Ry(roll), and Rz(yaw). Each rotation error was applied. Positioning variation on x, y and z axis was verified and random variations were made by 6DoF couch with positioning variation. Modified DQA is conducted and point dose and gamma value are analyzed and compared. In addition, after applying the rotation error every $1^{\circ}$ to treatment plans of each target with a diameter of 3 cm, 5, 10, 15, and 20 cm respectively, gamma passing rate is being monitored by its aspect of change according to types and sizes of the target length and rotation error. Results: Mean error of the point dose and Gamma passing rate when the position variation was applied were $2.50{\pm}1.11%$ and $84.1{\pm}7.39%$ in the Rx direction, $2.36{\pm}1.16%$, and $81.0{\pm}8.49%$ in the Ry, $2.35{\pm}1.10%$ and $84.4{\pm}6.99%$ in the Rz direction, respectively. As a result of analysis on gamma passing rate according to types and sizes of the target length and rotation error, the gamma passing rate tended to decrease with increasing rotation error in the Rx and Rz directions except Ry direction. In particular, the lowest gamma passing rate (74.2 %) was in the case of $2.5^{\circ}$ rotation error in Rz direction of the target of 10 cm. Conclusion: The correction of the rotational error is needed for volumetric modulated radiotherapy of the treatment area with a long target length, and the use of 6DoF couch will improve the reproducibility of the patient position and the quality of the treatment.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for signal processing which is used in pulse induction metal mine detectors. The detection power can be obtained from magnetic variation on the search coil. The calibration data should be made when there is no target because the detection power is difference between with and without a target. And it is also updated periodically because of surrounding various noises. Lastly, we keep a watch on the signal slope to identify exact position and signal power of mine detection.

  • Recently, the use of drone has been increasing rapidly in many ways. A drone can capture remote objects efficiently so it is suitable for surveillance and security systems. This paper discusses three methods for detecting moving vehicles using a drone. We compare three target detection methods using a background frame, preceding frames, or moving average frames. They are subtracted from a current frame. After the frame subtraction, morphological filters are applied to increase the detection rate and reduce the false alarm rate. In addition, the false alarm region is removed based on the true size of targets. In the experiments, three moving vehicles were captured by a drone, and the detection rate and the false alarm rate were obtained by three different methods and the results are compared.

  • This paper proposes a novel method for the recognition of the inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) image of multiple targets flying in formation. Rather than separating the ISAR image of each target, the proposed method combines an ISAR image obtained by fusing the ISAR images in the training database. Fusion is conducted by optimizing the non-linear problem whose parameters are the aspect angle and the target location. Assuming that the aspect angle is properly estimated, the proposed method estimates the number of the targets and their locations by optimizing the template matching using PSO. In simulations using the F-16 scale model, the efficiency of the proposed method was demonstrated by yielding the ISAR image identical to that of targets in formation.

  • Modern infrared-guided weapons detect and destroy targets by seeking and tracking the infrared radiation emitted by the target. By covering the target with a material that has low infrared emissivity, the infrared signal can be reduced to evade tracking. However, this method is effective only when the target is hotter than the background. Since the temperature of the background varies significantly between day and night, target signals with low emissivity at night can be captured by the optical systems of guided weapons due to signal contrast, as they are smaller than the background signals. In this study, the optimal emissivity for implementing infrared stealth for ground targets is calculated based on the temperature and emissivity of the background, as well as the temperature of the target. The size of the signal received by the optical systems of guided weapons, the contrast value of the image, and the lock-on range were calculated for target signals that vary depending on the emissivity of the target. The effectiveness of the optimal emissivity was demonstrated by thermal imaging computer simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics software.

  • This paper presents the extraction scheme of the scattered waves by a target above the ground using the buried antenna in a lossy and dispersive medium. The half wave dipole antennas are used to transmit and to receive a signal. The transmission line model as a feeding model is considered to take into account the effect of transmission line in a real system. The ground is modeled by the 2nd order Debye approximation with the dispersion and loss. PLRC algorithm and DPML as absorbing boundary condition are utilized to apply the 2nd order Debye approximation to FDTD. To extract the scattered wave, in addition, we employed the delay time extraction algorithm. The simulations are conducted to observe the variation of magnitude in scattered wave and detection of target position according to the change of moisture content of the lossy medium.

  • Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) is a method of treating tumor cells using radiopharmaceuticals. Cells and nuclei constituting tissues of the human body are composed of spherical and oval shapes, but cancer cells are composed of various cell types. Therefore, this study analyzed the absorbed dose for each organelle according to the change in the size of the cell nucleus for beta-emitting nuclides during targeted radionuclide therapy through the Monte Carlo method. Cells were set in two sphere shapes, 5 ㎛ and 10 ㎛, and the internal structure was divided into cell nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell surface. Next, the absorbed dose according to the increase in the size of the cell nucleus was evaluated. As a result, 177Lu among the target radionuclides showed the highest dose in all cell compartments. As the ratio of the nucleus in the cell increased, the absorbed dose on the cell surface increased, but the absorbed dose in the cytoplasm and nucleus tended to decrease. Accordingly, it is judged that it is important to select a radionuclide considering the size of cancer cells and determine an appropriate amount of radioactivity during targeted radionuclide treatment.

  • Recently, many target detection algorithms were developed for hyperspectral image. However, almost of these studies focused only accuracy from 1 or 2 data sets to validate and compare the algorithms although they give limited information to users. This study aimed to compare usability of target detection algorithms with various parameters. Five parameters were proposed to compare sensitivity in aspect of detection accuracy which are related with radiometric and spectral characteristics of target, background and image. Six target detection algorithms were compared in aspect of accuracy and efficiency (processing time) by variation of the parameters and image size, respectively. The results shown different usability of each algorithm by each parameter in aspect of accuracy. Second order statistics based algorithms needed relatively long processing time. Integrated usabilities of accuracy and efficiency were various by characteristics of target, background and image. Consequently, users would consider appropriate target detection algorithms by characteristics of data and purpose of detection.

  • This paper proposes an ATR (Automatic Target Recognition) algorithm for identifying non-occluded and occluded military vehicles in natural FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) images. After segmenting a target, a radial function is defined from the target boundary to extract global shape features. Also, to extract local shape features of upper region of a target, a distance function is defined from boundary points and a line between two extreme points. From two functions and target contour, four global and four local shape features are proposed. They are much more invariant to translation, rotation and scale transform than traditional feature sets. In the experiments, we show that the proposed feature set is superior to the traditional feature sets with respect to the similarity-transform invariance and recognition performance.
