  • 이암층, 함탄층, 석회암층과 같은 특수지질불량구간에서 터널과 암반사면의 합리적인 시공을 달성하기 위해서는 먼저 대상지질에 대한 지질특성, 암반특성을 정확히 이해하는 것이 필요하며, 지반특성에 적합한 지보대책을 수립하도록 하여야 한다. 본고에서는 전형적인 퇴적암지층으로 알려진 포항지역중 중생대 퇴적암류로부터 신생대 제 3기의 미고결 퇴적암류에 이르는 다양하고 복잡한 지질구조를 이루고 있는 지역에서의 터널 및 암반사면의 시공사례를 통하여 시공중의 제반문제점을 검토하여 이암층에서의 안전하고 합리적인 터널/암반사면의 시공방안에 대하여 고찰하였다.

  • 전기학회는 반세기에 걸쳐 눈부신 발전을 거듭해오고 있으며, 그동안 학회에 참여한 회원수는 약8천여명에 달할 것으로 추산되고, 1992년 1월 현재 정회원 2,017명, 종신회원 901명, 준회원 469명, 학생회원 152명, 특별회원 148개소, 합계 3,687명이 본학회에서 활동하고 있다. 본학회는 지역간의 균형있는 발전을 위하여 전국에 11개 지부(부산(221), 대전(276), 울산(263), 대구(164), 광주/전남(126), 전북(65), 포항(171), 마산/창원(239), 충북(76), 광양(81), 강원(109), 괄오한은 회원수임)를 설치운용하고 있다.

Creep behaviour of mudstone in the tertiary Duho Formation at Pohang basin (포항분지 제3기 두호층 이암의 크리프 거동)

  • Understanding of a creep behavior in rocks under a constant load, due to visco-elastic properties of rock, is an essential element to predict a long term ground deformation. In order to clarify the creep characteristics of the mudstone in Duho formation at Pohang basin, deposited during Tertiary, a series of laboratory tests including physical properties, unconfined compressive strength and uniaxial creep tests, was performed. The mudstone showed a higher creep potential due to 26% of clay minerals such as illite and chlorite. The unconfined compressive strength of the rock was $462{\;}kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ in average, and four creep tests were performed under constant stress of 40 to 70 % of the strength. The creep constants in the empirical and theoretical equations were deduced from the time-strain curves obtained from the tests. Among the several equations, the empirical equation proposed by Griggs and theoretical equation of Burger’s model are appreciated as the best one to express the creep behavior of the mudstone. Instantaneous elastic strain was linearly increased with stress level but strain velocity during the first creep is decreased with a similar pattern by time lapse regardless the stress level.

Slaking, Swelling and Shear Strength Characteristics of Pohang Mudrocks (포항이암층의 Slaking, 팽창 및 전단강도특성)

  • The weathering of mudrock in the Pohang area is mainly caused by slaking and swelling when the mudrock is absorbed with water. In this regard, this paper chows the results of chemical analysis and the identification of rock-forming minerals from XRD. It also compares the slaking and swelling characteristics of mudrocks sampled from 3 different sites. The chief rock -forming minerals are the quartz, and the several types of clay minerals. The slake durability indices are ranged from 71% to 96%, and these values are closely related to the liquid limit of the powdered nock specimen. In a similar manner to the slaking characteristics the greatest values of the swelling pressure and the swelling strain were measured from the mudrock specimen with the highest value of liquid limit. The greatest measured values of the swelling pressure and the swelling strain are 9.4 kg 1 cm2 and 33.5% respectively. The residual sheer strength of mudrock decreases as the number of wet -diy cycles increases, and the residual strength at 5 cycles are measured to c,=0.24kg/cm2 and p,=28$^{\circ}$. The lowest residual strength is measured at the fresh rock -rock contact surface in the moist condition of which values are cr: 0 and n,: 21.5$^{\circ}$.

Enhanced Geothermal System Case Study: The Soultz Project (EGS 지열발전 연구사례: The Soultz Project)

  • Various experiences on enhanced geothermal system (EGS) has been accumulated from the Soultz project through various scientific experiments and research activities for more than 20 years since it started in the year of 1984 until the 1.5 MW Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) binary power plant has been built up in Soultz-sous-$\hat{e}$ area, France. They have been applied to Cooper basin in Australia, Landau and Insheim in Germany and so forth. This report summaries the experiences from Soultz in the aspect of artificial reservoir creation, expecting to be helpful for reducing any trial and errors or unnecessary expenses in ongoing Korean EGS project in Pohang area, where the geological features are similar to Soultz area.

Paralytic Shellfish Poison of Bivalves in the Korean Waters (한국산(韓國産) 주요(主要) 이매패류(二枚貝類)의 마비성패독(痲痺性貝毒) 독화상황(毒化狀況))

  • The toxicity of bivalves in the Korean waters was investigated during 1987-1988. The toxicity of paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) was found in the sea mussels (Mytilus edulis galloprovincialis, M. corsucus), scallops (Patinopecten yessoensis, Chlamys farreri), tellin (Peronidia venulosa) and venus clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) among the 28 species screened. The toxicity in mussels, scallop (C. farreri) and venus clam was mainly confirmed from the samples collected around Jindong Bay in the southern coast of the peninsula, whereas the toxicities of tellin and scallop (P. yessoensis) were found in the vicinity of Pohang in the east coast. Samples from the west coast showed low levels of toxicity than those from the east arid south coasts. Although it varied with the regions, the toxicity was detected mainly during April to June, exceptionally during May to August in Pohang. The levels of toxicity were generally below the criteria of 4 mouse unit (MU)/g edible portion in foreign countries, with few exceptions.

Liquefaction Characteristic of Pohang Sand Based on Cyclic Triaxial Test (진동삼축시험을 통한 포항 지역 사질토의 액상화 저항 특성 연구)

  • In this study, series of cyclic triaxial tests and shear velocity measurement were conducted using Pohang sand, which was taken from liquefaction observed area, to verify the liquefaction characteristics of Pohang. The cyclic resistance ratio(CRR) was derived based on the test results. A specimen was reconstituted into 40% and 80% relative density conditions and then a series of cyclic triaxial tests and shear-wave velocity measurement were conducted. As a result, the effect of particle distribution and relative density to liquefaction resistance was verified. The liquefaction resistance of Pohang sand was evaluated by comparing with other liquefaction resistance of sands from previous research. In addition, the liquefaction resistance curve from field observation data was used to verify the reliability of results from this study by measured shear-wave velocity.

Classification of Wind Sector in Pohang Region Using Similarity of Time-Series Wind Vectors (시계열 풍속벡터의 유사성을 이용한 포항지역 바람권역 분류)

  • The local wind systems in the Pohang region were categorized into wind sectors. Still, thorough knowledge of wind resource assessment, wind environment analysis, and atmospheric environmental impact assessment was required since the region has outstanding wind resources, it is located on the path of typhoon, and it has large-scale atmospheric pollution sources. To overcome the resolution limitation of meteorological dataset and problems of categorization criteria of the preceding studies, the high-resolution wind resource map of the Korea Institute of Energy Research was used as time-series meteorological data; the 2-step method of determining the clustering coefficient through hierarchical clustering analysis and subsequently categorizing the wind sectors through non-hierarchical K-means clustering analysis was adopted. The similarity of normalized time-series wind vector was proposed as the Euclidean distance. The meteor-statistical characteristics of the mean vector wind distribution and meteorological variables of each wind sector were compared. The comparison confirmed significant differences among wind sectors according to the terrain elevation, mean wind speed, Weibull shape parameter, etc.
