  • In this study, we suggest a environmentally-conscious and dry cleaning process mechanism for the more useful recycling of end-of-life CRT, and also develop a prototype cleaning system to verify the faulty of the designed mechanism. This system accommodates the specifications of 14∼32" end-of-life CRT. In experimental result, it is expected that the developed system improve the productivity up to 10% and decrease the loss rate of cleaning glass 3∼4 times than the glass blasting methods.

  • In recent years, various types of industrial wastes are rapidly increasing with the development of high-tech industries. Specially, high-density waste glass of CRT TV containing heavy metals are buried or disposed of due to reprocessing costs and environmental pollution problems. Thus, more basic research is needed to recycle waste such as CRT waste glass such. In this study, the fundamental properties and radiation shielding performance of mortar specimens substituted CRT waste glass as a fine aggregate were analyzed and their application to shielding materials was evaluated. According to the results, the bulk density of mortar specimen replaced with CRT waste glass was increased and the compressive strength and flexural strength were decreased. Meanwhile, the CRT waste glass substitute specimen containing a large amount of lead component showed a higher shielding performance than the general mortar specimen. Especially, the linear attenuation coefficient of CRT waste glass in $122KeV{\cdot}^{57}Co$ of the low energy field was 2.5 times higher than that of normal specimen.

Effect of Replacing Fine Aggregate by Cathode-Ray Tube(CRT) Waste Glass on Gamma-ray Shielding Properties of Cement Mortar Specimen (폐 브라운관(CRT) 유리의 잔골재 대체가 모르타르 시험체의 감마선 차폐에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the microstructure and gamma-ray shielding efficiency of CRT glass mortar specimen were evaluated with replacement ratio and material properties. The results show that as the replacement ratio of CRT waste glass increases, the volume of pores with diameters below 50 nm and above 400 nm is increased. Also, the half-value layer of CRT glass mortar decreased with the increasing of linear attenuation coefficient. In addition, compressive and flexural strength were reduced when CRT waste glass was replaced as the fine aggregate, but the mechanical performance of CRT mortar specimen could be obtained by substitution of the mineral admixture.

  • The ability of natural abrasives which were recovered from CRT glass polishing process was evaluated. Comparing the center line average roughness values of a glass polished with new pumice (Ra = $0.039{\mu}m$) and with new garnet (Ra = $0.031{\mu}m$), the glass surface polished with the recycled pumice and the garnet had less pits on the surface with smaller Ra values (Ra = $0.025{\mu}m$ for recycled pumice and Ra = 0.029 for recycled garnet). Recycled rouge contains amorphous glass fragments so that it should be used as a cement replacement rather than recycle into an abrasive. Nnatural abrasives, pumice and garnet powder, which are used in CRT glass polishing process can be recycled into abrasives so that it can help to minimize costs and environmental impact from the production of abrasives and the disposal of waste sludge.
