Study on Removal of Trace Components from Landfill Gas Hydrate (매립가스 하이드레이트에서 미량성분 제거에 관한 연구)

  • 매립지에서 유기물의 분해로 발생되는 매립가스는 악취 등으로 인한 대기오염뿐만 아니라 온난화지수가 21인 메탄이 약 50vol% 이상 포함되어 있어 지구온난화에 큰 영향을 미친다. 하지만 매립가스를 에너지원으로 활용하면 대기오염저감, 지구온난화 감소, 대체에너지원 확보뿐만 아니라 CDM사업 등과 연계하여 부가수익창출이 가능하다. 현재 국내에는 약 242개의 폐기물매립지가 있는데, 이중 매립가스를 활용하는 곳은 단지 14개소로 개별 경제성이 있는 대형매립지에서만 자원화시설을 설치하여 운영 중이며 그 외 매립지에서는 매립가스를 소각 또는 단순 대기 방출하여 대기오염유발과 동시에 대체에너지원 미활용으로 국가차원에서 큰 손실이므로 이를 활용할 수 있는 기술개발이 시급하다. 현재 매립가스 에너지화 기술로는 매립가스 열량에 따라 가스엔진, 가스터진, 증기터빈을 이용하는데 국내에서는 수분제거와 같은 간단한 처리 과정을 거친 후, 정제 없이 사용한다. 그런데 매립가스 구성 성분 중 일부 미량가스($H_2S$ 등)는 부식성이 높아 실제 공정에서 큰 문제점으로 작용하게 되므로 전처리공정이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 중소규모 매립지에서 발생하는 매립가스를 중심적환장으로 이송하여 경제성을 가지는 에너지원으로 활용할 수 있는 기술개발을 목표로 하이드레이트 기술을 활용함에 있어 전처리 기초연구를 수행하였다. 매립가스 구성성분 중 대표적 악취물질인 메르캅탄과 부식성 물질인 황화수소의 전처리 기술로서 활성탄 흡착방법을 이용하여 외부에서 관찰이 가능하고 흡착탑을 2단으로 구성하여 활성탄 흡착탑을 제작하였다. 대상가스는 일반적으로 매립가스에 포함되어 있는 성분으로 제작하여 사용하였고 흡착탑 전 후 가스의 성분분석은 LMSxi를 이용하였다. 실험결과 활성탄의 상태, 접촉시간, 흡착탑의 구성에 따라 50~80%의 제거효율을 보였으며 이는 활성탄 흡착탑을 매립가스 에너지화의 전처리 시설로 사용될 경우 각각의 변수들에 대해 정확한 공정설계가 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

Properties of Cement Mortar as Particle Size and Hydrothermal Synthesis Temperature Using Scheelite Tailing (중석 광미를 사용한 시멘트 모르타르의 입도 및 수열합성온도별 물리적 특성)

  • Cement mortar was hydrothermal-synthesized with particle size of tailings using scheelite tailings deposited without proper treatment, and its physical properties were investigated. The mixing ratios of water-cement and sand-cement were fixed at 75 % and 400 %, respectively, during preparing cemnt mortar, and the sand was replaced by the tailings at 0 ~ 50 %. The particle size of tailings was controlled at 9.3 ~ 53.0 ℃, and the hydrothermal temperature was kept at 60 ~ 180 ℃ for 6 hours after the temperature increased to pretermined temperature with 2 ℃ heating rate. The compressive strength increased with increasing hydrothermal temperature. The compressive strengths were 55.2 MPa and 54.5 MPa when the mortars were prepared with 30 % low arsenic and high arsenic tailings after 60 min grinding. The compresiive strenght was enhanced 300 % compared with reference sample.

  • There are approximately 500 abandoned mining sites in Korea. Abandoned mines cause various environmental and safety problems such as landscape damage, soil, groundwater and stream pollution by heavy metal, acid mine drainage and soil erosion. According to the survey, there are significant numbers of mines causing environmental problems in Korea. For a environmentally sound management of abandoned mines, the Soil Pollution Control Act should include the regulation concerning soil pollution and recovery standards of the abandoned mines. Also, comprehensive survey about abandoned mines, setting-up of tile recovery priority, finance for clean-up are necessary.

Applicability of Solidified Soil as a Filling Materials of Bored Pile (매입말뚝 충전재로서 고화토의 적용성)

  • The cement paste is mostly used as the filling materials of bored pile in Korea. The use of filling material based on cement paste is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. In addition, it has environmental problem according to the large amount of cement use because its strength is also larger than criterion. The excavated soil with stabilizer can be used as the filling materials when the bored pile is constructed. Therefore, this paper describes field application of solidified soil for economical efficiency and environment-friendly. The injection capacity of solidified soil is compared with cement paste's based on unconfined compressive strength test and field load test, and the appropriate of test results is evaluated by design criterion. The evaluation result shows that the capacity of excavated soil with stabilizer is similar to cement paste and the solidified soil is able to apply as filling materials of bored pile because it is satisfied with design criterion.

Database for Construction Materials Management System Based on RFID (RFID 기반의 건축 자재 관리 시스템을 위한 데이터베이스)

  • The efficient materials management in construction field is a very important work required for designing and demolishing building. As the waste amount caused by the building demolition is increased, the concern related to the treatment method, recyclability, and effect on the environment have been gradually increased. In general, the conventional databases for the construction materials management does not consider the reuse of the construction materials on steps for the building demolition and reconstruction, but they only consider managing the type and input amount of them. In this paper, we propose the database system for efficiently managing the various construction materials informations including the location and condition of each construction materials for the efficient reuse of them on the building demolition and reconstruction. The considered informations are obtained the RFID(: Radio Frequency IDentification) system with on-board the location estimation module. Using the reuse management of construction materials, based on the proposed database, we expect the reduction of the construction cost and time.

A Study on Industrial Media for Production of Lactic acid in Batch and Continuous Fermentations (회분식 및 연속배양에 있어서 고농도 젖산의 생산을 위한 공업용 배지연구)

  • We have investigated industrial media for lactic acid fermentation to reduce the cost of nitrogen sources. Corn steep liquor (CSL) was successfully used at 5% (v/v) in batch fermentations. Use of soluble CSL improved the productivity about 20% with an advantage of clearer fermentation broth. Yeast extract-complemented CSL improved the productivity about 20% with an advantage of clearer fermentation broth. Yeast extract-complemented CSL media further increased the increased the productivity. It was found that 3.1 g/L yeast extract and 5% CSL could be an effective substitute for 15 g/L yeast extract in 10% glucose medium. Brewing yeast was also used as a sole nitrogen source equivalent to 5% CSL. A continuous culture coupled with cell-recycle by microfiltration at the dilution rate of 0.05-0.065 h-1 led to the highest lactic acid productivity. Lactic acid was recovered by electrodialysis from the cell free broth. Depleted cell free broth supplemented with 5-10 g/L of yeast extract performed reasonably in batch and continuous cultures. Reuse of the fermentation broth may reduce the cost of raw materials as well as minimize the fermentation wastes.

A Study on the Combined Treatment of Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Leachate (도시폐기물매립지침출수의 병합처리에 관한 연구)

  • An experimental research was conducted in order to study the combined treatment o of municipal landfill leachate and municipal sewage. The landfill leachate was that of Nanjido landfill site, and the municipal sewage was that of Chungnang municipal sewage treatment plant in Seoul. Several sets of bench~scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) were used as e experimental apparatus. Specially investigated items in this experiment were the removal efficiency of substrate and the influence of treatment time. The experiment lasted for about 2 years. The result are as follows ; 1. The characteristics of leachate were pH 7.5~8.2, BOD 80~336mg/L, COD 908~1,460mg/L, NH3-N 1,409~2,330mg/L, T~P 2.7~7.lmg/L, Cl~3,540~4,085mg/L, a and heavy metals are a very small amount. And the characteristics of sewage were pH 6.9~7.3, BOD 78.4~129.3mg/L, COD 121.2~305.0mg/L, T~N 14.9~36.4mg/L, T-P 2.3~8.9mg/L. 2. The treatability of leachate alone was not treat well. So for the good treatment of leachate, it was necessary to deal with the pretreatment before bi이ogical treatment and a combined treatment of municipal sewage. 3. The various contents of the leachate were 5%, 10%, 30%, and 50%, and the removal efficiency of COD was 86.0%, 82.8%, 60.6%, and 31.7%. The maximum content of the leachate which could be sucessfully treated by SBR in the combined treatment was 10% of that of sewage. And the removal efficiency of COD increased n notably, as its treatment time increased. 4. The various contents of the electrolytic treated leachate were 5%, 10%, 30%, and 50%, and the removal efficiency of COD was 89.9%, 86.1%, 79.2%, and 69.8%. The maximum content of the leachate which could be sucessfully treated by SBR in the combined treatment was 30 % of that of sewage. And the removal efficiency of C COD increased notably, as its treatment time increased.

Pretreatment of Livestock Wastewater containing PO4-3-P with Waste Oyster Shells (폐굴껍질을 이용한 축산폐수중 무기인의 1차 처리)

  • In this study, various batch tests were performed to examine the utilization of waste oyster shells for removal of $PO_4^{3-}-P$ in livestock wastewater, because waste oyster shells have been known to be very porous and to have alkaline minerals such as calcium and mangnesium. $PO_4^{3-}-P$ removal rate were increased by waste oyster shells, as specific surface area and contact efficiency per unit area of their were increased. Generally, it could be showed that $PO_4^{3-}-P$ removal rate were very influenced by particle size, dosage and temperature. At low pH of initial reactions, it would be showed that $PO_4^{3-}-P$ removals were directly influenced by adsorption but crystallization process were dominated with passed time and pH increasing. The SEM observed that the variations were hardly seen, but particle sizes of waste oyster shell were relatively big after reactions and showed forms of smaller plate than before reactions.

  • As a reinforced fabric, asbestos has been utilized as a fire-resistant material as it has a superior flexural stiffness and heat resistance up to $1500^{\circ}C$. However, due to its harmfulness, its use has been prohibited recently and the even the installed asbestos materials are being repaired or supplemented if there is a concern about flying. Asbestos is mainly used for construction panels as a reinforced fabric and coating materials to ensure the fire-resistance of steel frames. Asbestos was used as fire-resistant materials for steel frames until 1991 and then prohibited as Act on Industrial Safety and Health limits the concentration of asbestos in the air. Classified as a designated waste according to Act on Waste Control, asbestos must be buried if there is no possibility of flying (panel-type materials) or cement-solidified and then buried if there is a possibility of flying (spray coating material) In general, it is required that a new waste landfill include a certain landfill facility for designated waste, but in reality there is an absolute storage of landfill facilities for designated waste as they only install facilities of the size required by the regulations. This could result in the 2nd environmental pollution as they cannot process asbestos wastes which will be generated in large volume in the future. This study explores a method that melts asbestos wastes at $700^{\circ}C$ rather than cement-solidifying the waste asbestos from construction sites, especially asbestos-containing spray coating. The study results showed that there was no change in the composition and shape even though asbestos wastes was melted at $1300^{\circ}C$, but there was a change for the specimen which was process in advance for low temperature melting and then melt at $900^{\circ}C$.

A Study on Recycling of Waste Polyethylene Film (폐폴리에틸렌 필름의 재활용에 관한 연구)

  • The compounds of recycled polyethylene(PE) and fly-ashes were prepared. Polymers used were sorted PE from mixed plastics of household waste and Low Density Polyethylene(LDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene(LLDPE) recycled from the scrap of packaging film plants. Fly-ashes were from the power plant and from the household waste incinerator. The tensile strength of recycled LDPE and LLDPE compounds decreased and the flexural modulus increased with greater amount of the power plant fly-ash. Anthracite fly-ash gave rise to slightly higher tensile and flexural strength of the LLDPE mixtures than bituminous coal fly-ash presumably due to higher content of unburned carbon. The incinerator fly-ash introduced to household waste PE enhanced both tensile strength and flexural modulus of the compounds. When LDPE and household waste PE were used together, the synergistic effect of incinerator fly-ash to household waste PE was offset by reduced crystallization of LDPE due to the filler particle. The compounds of household waste PE and incinerator fly-ash might be applied to structural materials for such as sewage pipe, which reduces the waste treatment cost and conserve the environment and resources.
