  • Three-hinge failure occurs in a jointed rock slope with a joint set parallel with slope and a conjugate joint set. Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) which are commonly used for slope design, are not suitable for evaluating stability against three-hinge failure, and this study performed parametric study to analyze the failure mechanism and to find influence factors causing three-hinge failure using UDEC which is a commercial two-dimensional DEM based numerical program. Numerical analyses were performed for various joint structural conditions and joint properties as well as ground water conditions. It was found that pore water pressure is the main factor triggering the three-hinge failure and the mode of failure depends on friction angle of basal joint and bedding joint set. The results obtained from this study can be used for adequate and economic footwall slope reinforcement design and construction.

  • Landslides is mainly induced by a heavy rainfall, earthquake ground motion, and some other factors like soil mechanics, morphological-geological factors etc. Since the starting point of the failure seemed to be originated at a construction site in the study, it is meaningful to find out the relationship between the landslide and the construction. For this study, the slope failure factor was examined carefully to see that the original natural slope had vulnerability and that the complex ground had unstability changed by construction. A field survey was conducted on the original ground surface and filled-up ground. A laboratory test was also conducted to determine the geomechanical properties of soil samples. 2D and 3D limit equilibrium analysis with changing groundwater level were conducted at the failure depth using a seismic refraction survey. The result shows that the factor of safety is similar stability under all condition, but unstable under saturated condition.

  • This research was investigated to check characteristics of stream water quality at four points to analyze the characteristics of stream water in the northeastern part of Puk'ansan National Park during a period of July to November, 1998. The results are as follows. The level of average pH(6.56) and dissolved oxygen($10.22mg/{\ell}$) in the stream water quality on northeastern area in Puk'ansan National Park were at the level of the first class in the quality of river water quality standard. Also, the water in these streams was soft and equilibrated the ration and anion. Electrical conductivity in the stream water was correlated with total amount of ion and number of visitors, but conversely correlated with pH. And the number of visitors influenced stream water quality pollution. The multiple regression equations for electrical conductivity were well explained by pH, Zn and $Mg^{2+}$ statistically.

  • Shear strength parameters obtained from field tests are important factors in the analysis of slope stability. In this paper, sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of input parameters on the analysis of slope stability. The input parameters selected for sensitivity analysis were slope angle, cohesion, and friction angle. Monte-Carlo Simulation method was to estimate input parameters for sensitivity analysis in slope stability, and the limit equilibrium method was used to calculate the factor of safety of slope stability. A rock slope, failed in the field, was used for the sensitivity analysis of input parameters in the analysis of slope stability. The result of analysis shows that the factor of safety of the rock slope was a little low. From partial correlation coefficient (PCC) of input parameters from the sensitivity analysis, slope stability was dependant mainly on cohesion and slope angle. The effect of friction angle was smaller than those of cohesion and slope angle on slope stability.

  • The accuracy of the dosimetry in the Cyberknife system is accomplishing important role from all processes of the stereotactic radiosurgery. In this study, we estimated relative output factors for Cyberknife. All measurements were peformed by six different detectors: diode detector, X-Omat V film, Gafchromic EBT film, 0.015 cc, 0.125 cc and 0.6 cc ionization chamber The diode detector and three ionization chambers peformed using water phantom at 80 cm SSD and 1.5 cm depth. When the film measurements were peformed, the water phantom was replaced with a solidwater phantom. Each collimator normalized with respect to the output factor of the largest collimator (60 mm). For the collimators over than 30 mm, the output factors from the different detectors showed a good agreement within 0.5% except 0.6 cc ion chamber For the collimators less than 15 mm, there were substantial differences In the output factors among different detectors. That is, the value of output factor for the 5 mm collimator of a diode and Gafchromic film was each $0.656{\pm}0.009$ and $0.777{\pm}0.013$. In the ion chamber and diode detector, those difference were due to the presence of large dose gradients and lack of electronic equilibrium in narrow megavoltage x-ray beams Therefore, the Gafchromic EBT film were considered more accurate than the others detectors.

  • The sorption of Cd$^{2+}$ on calcite was studied in aqueous solutions of several electrolytes. The Cd$^{2+}$ concentration, 10$^{-8}$ M, was kept well below saturation with respect to CdCO$_3$(s). Sorption behavior of Cd$^{2+}$ in different ionic strengths of NaClO$_4$solutions shows that sorption is independent of ionic strength. This result suggests that Cd$^{2+}$ sorption on calcite surface is of a specific nature, and adsorption is controlled by an inner-sphere type of surface complex. Two stages in the sorption behavior could be identified: an initial rapid uptake, followed by slower uptake reaching a maximum steady state by 145 hrs. No evidence was observed for surface precipitation, although it can not be entirely ruled out. Desorption of Cd$^{2+}$ from the calcite surface after resuspension into Cd-free solution is initially very rapid, but depends partly on the previous sorption history. Desorption behavior of Cd$^{2+}$ show that an initial rapid desorption followed either by slow uptake reaching a maximum, as in the adsorption experiments, or slowing desorption to reach a steady state minimum. This irreversible behavior of Cd$^{2+}$ sorption and desorption may act as one of the controls for regulating the mobility of dissolved Cd$^{2+}$ natural aqueous systems. Calculated adsorption partition coefficients suggest that overall sorption and desorption process in the concentration range are controlled by d single mechanism.ingle mechanism.

  • A thorough literatural review of researches on the experimental prediction of scour depths caused by jets was carried out to find out a measure of scour prediction. A new experimental equation for predicting scour depths due to a vortical or an inclined jet was developed from five hundreds of experimental data which were carefully reviewed and adopted from the previous researches. The developed equation shows 0.941 statistical correlation coefficient. It was found that the parameters governing the scour depth were the size of bed material, flow rate through unit width of spillway, and head drop across structure. The predicted scour depth could be expressed as the deepest scouring depth below tail water surface with correlation coefficient ${\gamma}$ = 0.941.

  • We have studied the factors influencing the growth rate of TiN deposited from TDEAT using a bubbler. The growth rate of TiN was primarily dependent on the bubbler temperature, deposition temperature, gas delivery line conductance and carrier gases. In addition, the heating of the gas line through which carrier gas was delivered to the bubbler increased the growth rate slightly. Also heating of the delivery gas line between the bubbler and the chamber caused the increase of the growth rate of TiN, Showing the Arrehenius behaviour with the activation energy of 0.2 eV.

  • The complex formation of p-aminoazobenzene and its derivatives with Fe(III) and Mn(II) has been studied by UV and IR spectroscopy and conductometry. The effects of solvents, donor basicity, and other factors on the formation of these complexes have been examined. The vatio of metal to ligand for the complexes formed is 1 : 1, both in the solid state and in solution. The stability constants of Fe(III)-donor and Mn(II)-donor complexes are in the range of 10$^2$∼10$^4$ and 0.1∼1, respectively. The absorptivities are ~10$^4$ and ∼10$^3$ l/mol${\cdot}$cm respectively. Thermodynamic properties such as ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$, ${\Delta}G^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ are calculated from their stability constants utilizing Van't Hoff equation.
