  • This study is about investigating students' recognition and expression on relationship of 'time, distance, speed' via teaching experiment. In this process, students showed not only a change in perception of the relationship of 'time, distance, speed' but also recognizing the average speed as a viewpoint of the slope of the line connecting the end points of the interval in the distance function as well as another way of perceiving average speed of a height of a rectangle. In this process, the study shows the scene of expanding the relation of 'distance = time ${\times}$ speed' to 'distance = time ${\times}$ average speed', and also the student who makes the continuous reasoning shows the possibility of constructing a new function that can explain the change of the primitive function by allocating the average rate of change to the interval. Although this study was conducted with a limited number of students, this study suggests some implications through the observation of relationship of 'time, distance, speed' the students'. We hope that these results will be the starting point for various studies for constructing the integral learning model in the future.

  • In this study, we analyzed how the speed concept has been handled in Korean elementary mathematics textbooks and suggested some didactical implications for revising the teaching of speed concept. To do this, we investigated the curriculum documents, textbooks and teacher's manuals from the first curriculum to the 2009 revision curriculum. The results show that the speed concept of the elementary mathematics in Korea has been based on the concept of average speed and that the approach of applying the value of ratio has been strengthening more than the aspect of proportional relation. So we suggested two didactical suggestions: 1) the teaching of the speed concept should start with uniform movements. 2) the reasoning of proportional relation should be more strengthened.

  • The purpose of Speed limit at sea is to keep harbor calmness, to maintain efficient traffic flow and to prevent maritime accidents. The Korean Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Office(KRMAPO) specified and enforced the ship's speed limits at the 19 harbors around the Korean coasts. However, problems have been raised to the adequacy of speed limits. This paper made a research on the speed limit set standards, analyzed vessel traffic survey and the dilemma on the specified speed limits imposed by KRMAPO. The result of this study has shown an overall average of 48 % violation rate on speed limit with passenger ships and large vessels of more than 5,000 tons having higher violation rate. Average speed was higher than the limit speed in some harbors and deviation of 4.2 to 5.2 knots was investigated. Further, harbors having higher average speed also have higher deviation accident incidence. Therefore, this paper had confirmed that there is a need for institutional review and improvement of Korea's port and fairways speed traffic management.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm that estimates the speed of a moving object only using its sound information. In general, the speed gun projects the incident light onto a moving object and measures the frequency variation of the scattered light. Then the speed is measured by this frequency difference. In our study, instead of light information, we measure the speed by sound frequency difference when the object is coming and moving away. In our experiments on the speed measurement, on average the error of 6.08% was obtained. Utilizing this algorithm for smart device, we can measure the speed of a moving object without sensor that measures the frequency of the light.

  • Recently, vessel's average speed in the sea becomes fast because of the increasing of high-speeds vessel like a container ship and ferry. So, it is considered that speed control in the korean narrow waterway isn't the proper vessel traffic management, now. And, there is a rare paper studied about speed control quantitatively and numerically, especially speed control is discussing continuously, as abrogation of Incheon Port's speed control and alleviation of Kwangyang Port's speed control a according to navigating mariner's request. After this paper replayed the navigation traffic flow in the straight waterway using marine traffic flow simulation, the Environmental Stress Model is introduced to evaluate difficulty of each vessel's traffic.

  • Exercise such as walking is helpful to manage one's own weight and to counter life habit diseases such as obesity. Calorie consumption is usually calculated based on the distance walked. One way to measure the distance is by using steps and stride length. Most pedometers, including some applications in smart devices, are inaccurate, because they use a common value as the average stride length, even though each person has a different stride length. Moreover, the stride length differs depending on the walking pace, which will further increase the error. To address this, in this paper, I classify paces into three categories. Following that, I introduce a customized measurement of stride length, which is calculated based on the stride length corresponding to each pace category after obtaining x, y, z values from a 3-axis accelerometer in the smart device. In addition to this, I developed an application running on the smart device designed for the proposed measurement of stride. I have conducted three experiments for the assessment of the proposed measurement. In conclusion, I confirmed the effectiveness of this system.

  • This study proposes marine traffic volume estimation method considering ship speed, a factor excluded from the existing method. Ten days of GICOMS marine traffic data from Pyeongtaek and Dangjin ports was applied to this study. As a result, converted traffic volume with the proposed estimation method showed an increase of 4.41 (${\pm}0.99$) times or decrease of 0.59 (${\pm}0.04$) at most, compared with the existing estimation method. Average marine traffic congestion for each time applying the proposed estimation method showed an increase of 1.43 (${\pm}0.10$) compared with the existing estimation method. The maximum marine traffic congestion for each time was 1.62 (${\pm}0.34$) times higher compared with the existing estimation method. Marine traffic peak time, defined as the highest point of marine traffic congestion, was evaluated to be different from that of the existing method because of distribution of vessel speed. In conclusion, considering ship speed is necessary when estimating marine traffic volume to produce a practical estimate of marine traffic capacity.

  • Incheon Bridge is 13.38 km long with an 800 m span, connecting Incheon International Airport and Songdo International City, Per hour 73.8 vessels navigate this space. The purpose of this study was to suggest a safe passing speed based on the displacement of a vessel based on the safety criteria of Incheon Bridge's anti-collision fence, which was designed during its initial construction. As AASHTO LRFD suggested, vessel collision energy, vessel collision velocity, and the hydrodynamic mass coefficient were considered to derive a safe vessel traffic speed. Incheon Bridge's anti-collision fence was designed so that 100,000 DWT vessels can navigate at a speed of 10 knot. This research suggests a safe speed for vessel traffic through a comparative analysis of an experimental ship's (300,000 DWT) speed and cargo conditions, regulation speed has been calculated according to the collision energy under each set of conditions. Additionally, safe traffic vessel's safe speed was analyzed with reference to tidal levels. Results from the experimental ship showed that a vessel of maximum 150,000 DWT is able to pass Incheon Bridge at a maximum of 7 knots with an above average water level, and is able to pass the bridge with a maximum of 8 knots under ballast conditions.
