The Effect of Refractive and Corneal Recovery after Discontinuation of Orthokeratology Contact Lenses in Children (각막굴절교정렌즈 어린이 착용자에서 착용 중지 후 굴절력과 각막형상 복귀에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: To investigate the corneal recovery after discontinuing orthokeratology (OK) lenses wear in children for long-term period. Methods: Among the OK lens wearers who wear over 8 months and showed successful refractive correction, 25 subjects were selected who want to discontinue the OK lenses. Uncorrected visual acuity, refractive correction, corneal curvature (Sim K), central corneal thickness and corneal eccentricity were measured during the OK lens wearing period and after discontinuation for 1 month. Results: Uncorrected visual acuity and corneal shape had remodeled significantly during the OK lens wear and recovered significantly during the first week of discontinuation. Uncorrected visual acuity and refractive correction had achieved full recovery 2 weeks after discontinuation of lens wear and were highly correlated with the changes in corneal thickness. But corneal shape recovered slowly, eccentricity had recovered fully after 1 month and corneal curvature and central thickness had not been achieved full recovery until 1 month after discontinuation. Conclusions: Recovery of after longterm use of OK lens is rapid for refractive change, but slow for corneal curvature and central thickness that to refit the contact lenses, practitioners need patience.

Development of Intake Port for Range Extender Engine Using CFD Simulation (전산유체해석을 통한 RE엔진 흡기포트의 개발)

  • An intake port for Range Extender engine has been developed using CFD technique. Three dimensional intake port model has been built and computational analysis has been performed. Computed non-dimensional flow coefficient, swirl ratio and swirl number have been compared with the experimental result. Convex and concave curvature of the intake port have been optimized to reduce recirculation flow and flow resistance. Finally, the mean flow coefficient is 0.383 and the mean swirl number is 1.544. The intake port shows relatively excellent performance compared with those of general 2 valve engine system intake ports.

Planar Curve Smoothing with Individual Weighted Averaging (개별적 가중치 평균을 이용한 2차원 곡선의 스무딩)

  • A traditional average smoothing method is designed for smoothing out noise, which, however, unintentionally results in smooth corner points on the curvature accompanied with a shrinkage of curves. In this paper, we propose a novel curve smoothing method via polygonal approximation of the input curve. The proposed method determines the smoothing weight for each point of the input curve based on the angle and approximation error between the approximated polygon and the input curve. The weight constrains a displacement of the point after smoothing not to significantly exceed the average noise error of the region. In the experiment, we observed that the resulting smoothed curve is close to the original curve since the point moves toward the average position of the noise after smoothing. As an application to digital cartography, for the same amount of smoothing, the proposed method yields a less area reduction even on small curve segments than the existing smoothing methods.

Mesh Segmentation With Geodesic Means Clustering of Sharp Vertices (첨예정점의 측지거리 평균군집화를 이용한 메쉬 분할)

  • In this paper, we adapt the $\kappa$-means clustering technique to segmenting a given 3D mesh. In order to avoid the locally minimal convergence and speed up the computing time, first we extract sharp vertices from the mesh by analysing its curvature and convexity that respectively reflect the local and global geometric characteristics from the viewpoint of cognitive science. Next the sharp vertices are partitioned into $\kappa$ clusters by iterated converging with the $\kappa$-means clustering method based on the geodesic distance instead of the Euclidean distance between each pair of the sharp vertices. For obtaining the effective result of $\kappa$-means clustering method, it is crucial to assign an initial value to $\kappa$ appropriately. Hence, we automatically compute a reasonable number of clusters as an initial value of $\kappa$. Finally the mesh segmentation is completed by merging other vertices except the sharp vertices into the nearest cluster by geodesic distance.

A Study on the labial & buccal surface contour in Korean permanent teeth using three-dimensional laser scanning (3차원 레이저 스캐너를 이용한 한국인 영구치의 순, 협측 치관 굴곡도에 관한 연구)

  • Of various factors indicated for effective use of straight wire appliances, there was a great lack of studies both domestic and international about the curvatures of tooth crowns. This study was performed to investigate the labio/buccal clinical crown curvatures of Korean permanent teeth. For this study, three-dimensional laser scanning was performed on 36 dental casts with normal anatomic structures. Andrews plane and Facial axis of clinical crown (FACC) were designated as horizontal and vertical reference planes respectively. 2 or 3 lines, 1mm apart, were drawn superior, inferior, left and right of these reference planes. A three-dimensional coordinate table was made for points formed by crossing these lines, and averages of each coordinate point on the 36 dental casts were obtained. The curvature equation was made using three-dimensional coordinate points (x,y,z) and by this curvature equation, the curve ratio of each tooth was obtained. Curve ratio changes of each section of teeth were calculated by curve ratios of simplified curves. These two dimensional curves were simplified horizontally and vertically Conclusions for this study are as follows. 1. The basic data of labial and buccal clinical crown curvatures were obtained about Korean permanent teeth. 2. No significant difference was found between male and females. 3. Individual tooth characteristics 1) In maxillary central incisors, the difference in the curve ratio between the gingival and incisal sides was greater than for the other teeth. And the gingival side showed a greater curve ratio. 2) Maxillary canines showed more curvatures in the mesio-occlusal surface than the other surfaces. 3) In maxillary $1^{st}$ premolars, more curvatures were found in mesio-occlusal and disto-gingival surface, thus showing a twisted crown surface, but in maxillary $2^{nd}$ premolars, the crown curvatures of mesial and distal ends became parallel to each other. 4) No significant difference in crown curvatures was found between mandibular central and lateral incisors. 5) Occluso-gingival curvatures of mandibular$2^{nd}$ premolar turned out to be more rounded than mandibular $1^{st}$ premolars or maxillary $2^{nd}$ premolars. From the above conclusions, it can be deduced that the same bracket bases can be used for mandibular central and lateral incisors. But for maxillary $1^{st}\;and\;2^{nd}$ premolars and for mandibular $1^{st}\;and\;2^{nd}$ premolars, because crown curvatures showed significant differences, when making bracket bases there is ample reason to make bracket base curves differently for each type of tooth.

A study on the reduction of the distance on reference ellipsoid to the distance on geoid (타원체상 거리의 지오이드면상 거리로의 보정에 관한 연구)

  • The straight spatial distance or geodesic distance on WGS84 ellipsoid measured by GPS should be reduced on geoid to be used in Korean Geodetic System. The factors for this reduction are geoidal height and mean radius of the earth. On this study the effects of these factors on reducing distance were analyzed and the result showed that mean geoidal height should be multiplied by $1.6\times{10}^{-7}$ per unit distance for reducing geodesic distance on reference ellipsoid to that on geoid. Condsidering that the geoidal height on Bessel ellipsoid in Korea is -45 m in northeast and -75 m in middle west. It also showed that the difference of geodesic distance between on reference ellipsoid and on geoid is about 7-12 mm per km.

  • 금강살리기 사업은 장래 치수 및 물 부족 현상과 가뭄에 대비하여 용수 확보를 위해 금강 본류에 금남보, 금강보, 부여보 3개의 보를 건설하고 있다. 이러한 보의 건설은 하천의 흐름을 차단하여 토사퇴적에 많은 영향을 미치며 하상의 형상을 변화시킨다. 한 지점에서 하상재료 및 하상단면이 변화되면 하천 전 구간에 걸쳐 장기간의 하상변화를 일으키게 되며 이를 예측하고 분석하는 작업은 하천계획 및 관리를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 매우 중요하다. 현재 금강에는 금강보가 건설중에 있으며 공사 후 보에 의해 상류로부터 하류로의 유사 유입이 차단되고 보 방류량이 인위적으로 조절되기 때문에 보 하류의 하상변동을 장기적이고 거시적인 관점에서 모니터링 하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 금강보 건설 기간 중 하상변동 및 퇴적 토사의 입도 변화양상을 조사하기 위해 보 상 하류에 모니터링 지점을 선정하였고, 하상단면 수심측정기를 이용하여 하상변동 모니터링과 5회에 걸쳐 현장의 토사시료를 채취하여 하상재료 입도분포를 분석하였다. 그 결과 금강보 상류 모니터링 지점은 하상침식에 의해 하상고의 평균높이가 0.29m 낮아졌고, 하류 모니터링 지점 역시 하상고의 평균 높이가 0.05m 낮아졌으며, 하상형상의 모습은 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 또한, 5회에 걸쳐 하상재료를 채취하여 균등계수 및 곡률계수를 통해 입도분포를 분석한 결과 체가름시험 규정에 의해 5회 모두 '나쁜입도'로 분류 되었다.

  • 농업용수 및 친수공간 확보, 경관 향상 등의 다양한 목적을 위한 보의 건설은 하천의 흐름을 차단하여 보를 기준으로 상 하류의 흐름특성을 변하게 하고 토사퇴적에 많은 영향을 미치게 된다. 토사의 퇴적으로 인해 하상이 상승되면 홍수시 홍수위 상승에 의한 치수적인 문제점이 발생하고 토사의 침식이나 공급차단으로 인해 하상이 저하되면 하상세굴로 인해 교각이나 수위관측소와 같은 하천시설물의 기능이 저하되며 하천부지의 변화 등 하천유역 관리에 많은 영향을 준다. 따라서 보 상 하류의 하상변동을 예측하고 분석하는 것은 하천 관리에 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 공주보 건설 기간 중 공주보를 기준으로 상 하류의 하상변동 및 퇴적 토사의 입도 변화양상을 조사하기 위해 모니터링 지점을 선정하였고, 하상단면 수심측정기를 이용하여 하상의 형상 모니터링을 통해 하상변동 양상을 분석하였으며 토사시료를 채취하여 하상재료 입도분포를 분석하였다. 그 결과 공주보 상류 모니터링 지점의 하상 평균높이가 0.52m 낮아진 것으로 측정되었고, 하류 모니터링 지점 역시 하상고의 평균 높이가 0.36m 저하된 것으로 측정되었으며, 하상형상의 모습은 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 보의 건설로 상류측의 토사퇴적이 예상 되었으나 모니터링 시에는 수문이 개방되어 하천의 흐름이 비교적 원활하여 보 상류측에 토사의 퇴적현상이 발생하지 않은 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 하상재료를 채취하여 균등계수 및 곡률계수를 통해 입도분포를 분석한 결과 체가름시험 규정에 의해 '나쁜입도'로 분류되었다.

A Mesh Segmentation Reflecting Global and Local Geometric Characteristics (전역 및 국부 기하 특성을 반영한 메쉬 분할)

  • This paper is concerned with the mesh segmentation problem that can be applied to diverse applications such as texture mapping, simplification, morphing, compression, and shape matching for 3D mesh models. The mesh segmentation is the process of dividing a given mesh into the disjoint set of sub-meshes. We propose a method for segmenting meshes by simultaneously reflecting global and local geometric characteristics of the meshes. First, we extract sharp vertices over mesh vertices by interpreting the curvatures and convexity of a given mesh, which are respectively contained in the local and global geometric characteristics of the mesh. Next, we partition the sharp vertices into the $\kappa$ number of clusters by adopting the $\kappa$-means clustering method [29] based on the Euclidean distances between all pairs of the sharp vertices. Other vertices excluding the sharp vertices are merged into the nearest clusters by Euclidean distances. Also we implement the proposed method and visualize its experimental results on several 3D mesh models.

Effects of Geometric Parameters of a Bobsleigh on Aerodynamic Performance (봅슬레이의 형상변화가 공력성능에 미치는 영향)

  • Analysis of the aerodynamic performance of a bobsleigh has been performed for various types of bobsleigh body shape. To analyze the aerodynamic performance of the bobsleigh, three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stoke equations were used with the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model as a turbulence closure. Grid structure was composed of unstructured tetrahedral grids. The radii of curvature of cowling, and height and length of front bumper at the tip on the drag coefficient were selected as geometric parameters. And, the effects of these parameters on the aerodynamic performance, i.e., the drag coefficient, were evaluated. The results shows that the aerodynamic performance is significantly affected by the height of front bumper and radius of curvature.
