This study estimated the delay factor, which is the ratio of travel time at the speed limit and travel time at the actual speed using real-time traffic information in Seoul. The actual travel speed on the road was lower than the maximum speed of the road and the travel speed was the slowest during the rush hour. As a result of accessibility analysis based on travel speed during the rush hour, the travel time at the actual speed was 37.49 minutes on average. However, the travel time at the speed limit was 15.70 minutes on average. This result indicated that the travel time at the actual speed is 2.4 times longer than that at the speed limit. In addition, this study proposedly defined the delay factor as the ratio of accessibility by the speed limit and accessibility to actual travel speed. As a result of delay factor analysis, the delay factor of Seoul was 2.44. The results by the administrative district showed that the delay factor in the north part areas of the Han River is higher than her south part areas. Analysis results after applying the relationship between road density and traffic volume showed that as the traffic volume with road density increased, the delay factor decreased. These results indicated that it could not be said that heavy traffic caused longer travel time. Therefore, follow-up research is needed based on more detailed information such as road system shape, road width, and signal system for finding the exact cause of increased travel time.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of on-line departure time-based link travel time estimates. For this, accuracy (i.e. estimation error) and timeliness (i.e. degree of time lag) are proposed as MOE of the quality of on-line link travel time estimates. Then the relationship between quality of link travel time estimates and link length and level of congestion is analyzed. It was found that there is trade-off between the accuracy and timeliness of link travel time estimates. The estimation error was modeled to consist of two components: one is systematic error and the other is mean square error which reflects level of congestion. further, time lag was again segmented into three parts for the analysis purpose. There are minimum one, congestion-related one, and update interval-related one. From the real-world data using AVI system, it was revealed that regardless of the link length and level of congestion, 10 minutes of time lag occurs in general.
With the ever-growing amount of traffic, there is an increasing need for good quality travel time information. Various existing outlier filtering and missing data imputation algorithms using AVI data for interrupted and uninterrupted traffic flow have been proposed. This paper is devoted to development of an outlier filtering and missing data imputation algorithm by using Toll Collection System (TCS) data. TCS travel time data collected from August to September 2007 were employed. Travel time data from TCS are made out of records of every passing vehicle; these data have potential for providing real-time travel time information. However, the authors found that as the distance between entry tollgates and exit tollgates increases, the variance of travel time also increases. Also, time gaps appeared in the case of long distances between tollgates. Finally, the authors propose a new method for making representative values after removal of abnormal and "noise" data and after analyzing existing methods. The proposed algorithm is effective.

Recently, DSRC technology is used in the various fields such as parking system, BIS, ETC, etc. This paper suggests a traffic information system using this DSRC technology. The traffic information processing based on point detection using existing vehicle detection equipment is the system in which a collection and a service are operated separately while the traffic information system based on the link detection using DSRC is able to collect and provide the traffic information through the communication between RSE and OBU. The speed of a traffic congestion is high on the process converted from a point passing speed to a link average speed because the vehicle detection equipment makes the link traffic information into the point information. When the condition of traffic is deteriorated, traffic speed of the vehicle detection equipment becomes higher than DSRC. Especially, in this system, deflection by data of the traffic speed of the traffic information system is much decreased, and the unexpected condition detection and traffic condition are provided promptly.

In this paper, we propose the regional travel time measurement algorithm using the sequence pattern matching to the type of vehicles between the origin of the region and the end of the region, that could be able to overcome the limit of conventional method such as Probe Car Method or AVI Method by License Plate Recognition. This algorithm recognizes the vehicles as a sequence group with a definite length, and measures the regional travel time by searching the sequence of the origin which is the most highly similar to the sequence of the end. According to the assumption of similarity cost function, there are proposed three types of algorithm, and it will be able to estimate the average travel time that is the most adequate to the information providing period by eliminating the abnormal value caused by inflow and outflow of vehicles. In the result of computer simulation by the length of region, the number of passing cars, the length of sequence, and the average maximum error rate are measured within 3.46%, which means that this algorithm is verified for its superior performance.

In this paper, we watch out key measure of the level of transportation service about travel time and delay time. And we measured vehicle traffic by moving vehicle method using CCTV which is one of the travel time measure. We should be measured in place of continuous traffic flow characteristics with wide traffic light interval. In addition, traffic flow on the other side of the interval must be sufficiently identifiable and at the end of this section must be possible U-turn. This method it requires only the driver of the vehicle because of the CCTV measure. In addition, We cannot require time, distance, and traffic equipment that can be recorded. Because equipped with the software to do that. In addition to traffic, average travel time, average space speed, traffic density are also available.

Emerged in early 1990s, so called 'Quick service' industry that provides faster delivery of small parcels than regular mail service accelerated use of motorcycles. As the economic grows, use of large bicycles (more than 250CC displacement) for leisure purpose has also rapidly increased. Traffic crash data clearly shows the increasing trend in motorcycle crashes. The ratio of motorcycle involved crashes out of total has increased from 5.7% in 2005 to 8.3% in 2008, and similar trend can be found in fatalities ratio as well. In this study, we assess the level of risk when motorcycles operate on motorways by analyzing traffic rule violation ratio, lane change behaviour, driving speed behaviors of motorcycles in Uninterrupted Traffic Flow Facilities and using PC-CRASH simulation we also calculate car shock impulses occurred when an accident happens. Analysis result shows that the motorcycle is different from the car in terms of lane change timing and average speed, and also shows motorcycle drivers tends to conduct more improper driving behavior particularly when traffic is congested. The results from this study could be usefully applied when the law enforcement agent decides whether bicycles shall be allowed to use motorways. The result could be also utilized as fundamental information for further study of bicycles' driving behavior.
In aspects of traffic operation, a climbing lane may cause traffic congestion if the volume of traffic (v/c) grows and the ratio of heavy vehicle increases. Conversely, it would be effective, if the climbing lane is dynamically operated according to changes in traffic flow. However, there are no guideline to effectively control this climbing lane in aspects of traffic operation. In this study, we examine the necessity of flexible traffic operation criteria and its process for dynamic traffic management and also establish and analyze the effect of flexible traffic operation criteria in accordance with traffic properties using an example of climbing lane. We selected the operation criteria (critical travel speed), which decides whether to operate or close the climbing lane when the average travel speed of climbing lane is 50km/h based on VISSM (microscopic traffic simulation) analysis of Nakdong junction towards Masan with the volume of traffic (v/c), ratio of heavy vehicle as the traffic operation parameters. Based on the simulation result in accordance with the volume of traffic by the operation mode of climbing lane, the analysis on the effect of dynamic traffic management of climbing lane showed that the dynamic traffic management provides more convenience compare to the operation and close of climbing lane. Thereby, we proved that the dynamic traffic management of climbing lane is more effective.
The compact city usually provides good accessibility of residents with multiple transportation modes. However, in a compact city, annual average of travel distance per household by car is relatively short due to more congested traffic condition and larger travel cost than disperse city. As a result, total travel demand is decreasing when the region becomes more compact. Therefore compact development is regarded as one of the sustainable choices for future urban planning in many countries. This study aims at an empirical analysis of the relationship between urban compactness and travel demand based upon land-use and travel data for city of Seoul. In this study, 424 sub-districts with the mixed land-use patterns are assessed in a hexagonal diagram. The measurement is based on the relative deviation of each sector's characteristics including numbers of residence, manufacture, and trade & service. Multiple linear regression models are developed to analyze the effects of urban compactness on zonal trip generations. As a result, the trip generation rate in the residence-intensive and mixed-use areas is found to be relatively low. Furthermore, residents in high-compact areas tend to use public transport more often than residents in less compact areas.
The real-time traffic information is considered to be the system to alleviate traffic congestion. An effective traffic information will help drivers make efficient travel decision, and network performance will be improved. To make efficient strategy of providing information, the analyst should quantify reduced congestion by the media traffic informations. Many other route diversion models considered only media-informations as information sources and ignored the impact of on-site informations such as visible delays and average speeds, which affect drivers' route diversion decision in practice. In those models, the effect of on-site informations could be treated to be the effect of media informations, and the effects of media informations would be over-estimated. The proposed model including the impact of on-site information can estimate the effect of media-informations. The results are expected to be applied to the analysis of traffic management policy such as ITS.
