Development of Tissue mimicking ultrasound phantom materials (Tissue mimicking 초음파 팬텀물질의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • We carried out studies on develop of the ultrasound tissue mimicking materials(TMM) by synthesis of polymer urethane(C, CCR, $TiO_2$, tungsten, graphite, silver type). The major finding were as follows; (1) C type TMM was shown good homogeneity, penetration, gray scale like as liver tissue and propagated speed 1,540 m/s, attenuation $0.5{\sim}0.7\;dB/cm/MHz$. (2) $TiO_2$ type TMM was shown heterogeneous dot echo pattern. (3) Silver type TMM was appear good homogeneous echo pattern like as echo texture of thyroid gland. Therefor, C type TMM will be useful for ultrasound Q/A phantom materials and previous phantom materials.

  • This thesis suggests ways on how to enhance handset radiation power under head phantom condition. Generally, peak EIRP(Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) is used to measure the radiation performance. TRP is more effective to represent indication of mobile radiation performance in the field than EIRP. In this case, we measure the TRP as an index of radiation power. The factors which effect TRP are antenna length, antenna position, folder angle and ground connection method. More detailed analysis is performed over these items. Significant item is ground connection method between main PCB and folder GND. Using the FPCB we connect main GND to folder GND through the hinge near the antenna. The result is that TRP attenuation is decreased about 5 dB under head phantom condition.

Development of the EGS4 Control Code to Calculate the Dose Distributions in a Strong Magnetic Field (자기장이 인가된 물팬텀 속의 전자선 선량분포 계산을 위한 EGS4 제어코드의 개발과 응용)

  • In this work we developed a EGS4 control code to calculate the dose distributions for high energy electron beams in water phantom applied longitudinal magnetic field. We reviewed the electron's motion in magnetic field and delivered equations for direction changs of the electron by the external magnetic field. The mathematical results are inserted into the EGS4 code system to account for the presence of external magnetic fields in phantom. The electron pencil beam paths of 6 MeV in water phantom are calculated for magnetic fields of 1-3 T and the dose distributions for a field of 1.0 cm in diameter are calculated for magnetic fields of 0.6-1 T using the code. From the results of path calculations we found that the lateral ranges of the electrons are reduced in the magnetic field of 3 T. For a field of 1 cm diameter and a magnetic field of 1 T, the small dose enhancement near the range of the electrons on the depth dose and the penumbra reduction of 0.15 cm on the beam profile are observed. We discussed and evaluated the results from the theoretical concepts.

  • The increasing use of computed tomography (CT) as a diagnostic tool creates the need from and efficient means of evaluating the performance of the CT scanner now in use. Accordingly, acceptance testing and quality assurance of CT is of great importance. The aim of this study is to analyze of AAPM CT performance phantom in the CT accreditation program. The modular phantom offers the CT system with which to measure eight performance parameters. The parameters are listed of CT attenuation coefficient of water, noise, uniformity, spatial resolution, contrast resolution, slice thickness (5 and 10 mm), artifacts and alignment. The phantom evaluation was done by two radiologists. The acceptance testing protocol described here in demonstrates the successful of the guidelines for the quality assurance using AAPM CT performance phantom. We need to be upgraded for the CT image quality and make the standard reference of the quality assurance in the CT.

  • In diagnostic X-ray examinations, dose assessments for pregnant female and fetus are realistically difficult, and related research is also lacking. Therefore, in this study, the purpose of the simulation was to analyze the dose and fetal dose for pregnant female during abdominal X-ray examination. Based on the data presented in ICRP 89, this study produced phantom reconstructed of the existing prenatal phantom, which was used to analyze the evaluation of the organ dose and fetal dose of pregnant female according to pregnancy week and the difference between the dose of the existing phantom and the reconstructed phantom. As a result, the abdominal X-ray test showed a tendency to show higher doses for organs close to the direction of the source joining. In addition, it was confirmed that fetal doses in posteroanterior position were reduced by more than 65% compared with anteroposterior position.

A Study on Dose Sensitivity according to Rice Cultivar in Extremities Radiation Therapy with Rice Bolus (사지의 방사선치료에 사용되는 쌀 볼루스의 품종에 따른 방사선량분포의 민감도 연구)

  • To investigate the radiation dose sensitivity in extremity radiatioin therapy depending on rice cultivar which have different size and shape of grains, plan results are compared that used rice bolus Korean and Thai rice. Phantoms that are each no bolus, Korean rice bolus, Thai rice bolus were used and prescribed 100 cGy to isocenter and checked the point dose of 12 points of interest of each phantoms. The meane dose are 103.57±1.98 cGy in Thai rice bolus using, 104.27±2.12 cGy in Korean rice bolus and 104.99±6.40 cGy in phantom without bolus. Dose distribution of Thai and Korean rice bolus differed significantly in Wilcoxon's Signed Rank test (p=.011). It has been confirmed that that the bolus using Thai rice, which has a small grain size, shows a more even dose distribution.

  • Geant4 is compatible with the Windows operating system in C++ language use, enabling interface functions that link DICOM or software. It was simulated to address the basic structure of the simulation using Geant4/Gate code and to specifically verify the density composition and lung cancer process in the human phantom. It was visualized using the Gate Graphic System, i.e. openGL, Ray Tracer: Ray Tracing by Geant4 Tracing, and using Geant4/Gate code, lung cancer is modeled in the human phantom area in 3D, 4D to verify the simulation progress. Therefore, as a large number of new functions are added to the Gate Code, it is easy to implement accurate human structure and moving organs.
