The Study on Antenna Performancet Test for Surion Radio Installation and Optimal Positioning (수리온 통신 안테나 장착 및 최적위치 선정을 위한 안테나 성능시험에 관한 연구)

  • Surion is required to install radios (U/VHF-AM, VHF-FM) capable of omni-directional communication. Therefore, this paper demonstrates the antenna performance test for the installation of the Surion communication antenna and the selection of optimal location. A simulation pattern analysis was performed employing the antenna, and a coupling test was performed by creating a new evaluation criterion. In addition, the results of the pattern flight test conducted at the previously suggested 1:20 turn and separation distance ratio were observed to be normal. However, the occurrence of voice cutoff was noted in the long-distance flight test. Therefore, in this paper, 1:300 (15 NM) is proposed as a new optimal ratio for predicting the long-distance flight test results in advance. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation criteria was verified through long-distance flight tests. Consequently, it is expected to reduce the development schedule and cost by reducing the trial and error of the performance test for the Surion model. Also, the results of this study are expected to be used as standards for the installation of communication antenna and quality tests for other helicopters.

  • In this paper, the optimal placement of the rotary wing's communication and navigation antennas was evaluated by measuring their performance through ground simulations and flight tests. To select the mounting position of the communication and navigation antenna on the helicopter, after considering the shape and characteristics of the airframe, the radiation patterns, coupling analysis, equipment operation profiles, and antenna type analysis were performed for the aircraft-mounted antenna. Based on the analysis results, a procedure for sequentially performing voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) measurement and antenna pattern test was established through ground and flight tests of the antenna. The systematic performance measurement method and procedure proposed in this paper were verified through ground and flight tests of the Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) system.

  • Korea Sounding Rocket(KSR)-III onboard telemetry system has acquired various data from subsystems and sensors in the rocket, and radiated PCM/FM data using two S-band antennas during the flight. Simultaneously, it is necessary that the ground receiving systems track the rocket, and receive and decode telemetry data. Also post processed telemetry data are needed to be broadcasted on ethernet network in real time. Range safety display system displays flight trajectory using telemetry data in mission control center, and so flight manager makes a decision for flight termination from the trajectory This paper describes operating technique about telemetry reception, the development for the realtime data processing system, and the results for telemetering reception on fight test. We telemetered, processed, and broadcasted numerous telemetry data during the flight test successfully.

  • This paper proposes a telemetering method that transmits the real-time data together with the time-delayed data and that merges both data after flight test. The method can minimize the error data which occur in the communication environment affected by the multipath fading and transmit antenna pattern when telemetry data are received during the flight test. This method was applied to the design of the telemetry unit and the development of data merging program. By merging the resulting data of flight test and analyzing synchronization errors, its efficiency for the telemetry link is verified.

  • This paper proposes a collision prevention system for an agricultural unmanned helicopter. The collision prevention system consists of an obstacle detection system, a mapping algorithm, and a collision avoidance algorithm. The obstacle detection system based on a LiDAR sensor is implemented in the unmanned helicopter and acquires distance information of obstacles in real-time. Then, an obstacle mapping is carried out by combining the distance to the obstacles with attitude/location data of the unmanned helicopter. In order to prevent a collision, alert is activated to an operator based on the map when the vehicle approaches to the obstacles. Moreover, the developed collision prevention system is verified through flight test simulating a flight pattern aerial spraying.

A Study on Link Analysis of Telemetry Rocket-borne Antenna (텔레메트리 로켓 탑재 안테나의 회선 분석에 관한 연구)

  • It is required to design the RF link with sufficiently stable signal margin to minimize bit errors and improve the quality of received data in the telemetry system modulated digitally like PCM/FM. In case of the vehicle flying at a high speed, the variation of the gain pattern between transmitting and receiving antenna and the fee space loss due to flight distance cause the fluctuation of link. In this paper, KSR(Korea Sounding Rocket)- III, the first domestic liquid rocket which was successfully launched in Nov. 2002 is introduced. The SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) variation of the telemetry signal which was measured at S-band ground station, the one which was simulated considering the flight trajectory, and the attitude variation such as roll, pitch and yaw are compared, analyzed, and agree very well. In addition, two virtual flying situations are simulated and evaluated-only one antenna is equipped in one case, and rocket is roll-free in the other.

  • Telemetry link is dynamic communication link that antenna gain and polarization are varying with the movement of the airplane. In this paper we calculated the antenna gain, polarization mismatch using the flight trajectory, motion of the airplane and 3D antenna pattern. And we modeled the multipath environment to the 2-Ray spherical earth reflection geometry, estimated the received signal strength when the narrow beam antenna received the RF signal transmitted from the airplane. Also we performed the flight test and after comparing measured value with the estimated value, we confirmed to almost coincide with each other.

  • 소형우주발사체 KSLV-I의 상단부 전자장비 탑재 구조체의 외부면에는 텔레메트리, 원격추적, GPS, 비행종단 시스템의 안테나가 두 개 또는 세 개씩 장착된다. 발사체의 표면에 안테나를 부착할 수 있는 위치는 제한되어 있기 때문에 각 안테나 들은 서로 인접되어 부착된다. 또한 상단부 전자장비들과 지상장비의 성능을 검증하기 위해 수행되는 경비행기를 이용한 비행시험은 각 안테나들이 더욱 근접하여 장착된 상태로 수행된다. 따라서 각 하부시스템의 안테나 사이에 발생하는 간섭현상을 분석하기 위한 연구가 요구된다. 이 논문에서는 시간영역 유한차분법을 이용하여 서로 다른 하부시스템의 안테나 간에 발생하는 간섭영향을 해석하였다. 수행된 해석 과정은 우주발사체의 안테나 방사패턴을 해석하는데 이용될 수 있으며, 향후 우주발사체의 시스템 설계 과정에서 안테나의 배치 방법과 각 하부시스템의 성능 요구조건을 결정하는데 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다.

  • In this paper, we analyzed linkbudget with comparing actual received level of telemetry system at Palau Tracking Station. Because Palau Tracking Station participated in the launch mission for the first time and lack of verification tests for antenna tracking and signal reception performance, we analyzed the linkbudget more accurately by predicting transmit antenna polarization gain according to the trajectory and attitude of launch vehicle. The analysis results were used to analyze signal reception range, antenna operation angle and LHCP/RHCP received level. The actual received level of the antenna was similar to the linkbudget result as a result of the launch mission operation.

  • In this paper, we present the newly developed propagation toss model of a long range maritime communication channel, measured by a ground to air flight test, and discuss its validity compared with the predictive value based on the spherical earth reflection model. To measure the propagation loss, actual flight test was performed in the Yellow Sea and the measurement of receiving signal strength was made for overall test range. As far as the test condition is concerned, it is expected that the receiving signal strength must be interfered with the reflected wave by an island existing around the reflection point. Therefore we introduce some modifications on the conventional spherical earth reflection model by including the effect due to the reflected wave from the island. And then, we compare the path loss measured by flight test with that one analyzed by the spherical earth reflection model accounting for reflected wave of the island. As a result of the comparison, it is verified to predict the path loss accurately by the spherical earth reflection model including the effect due to the reflected wave from an island for a long range ground to air communication.
